How do you just START to make a formation? Do you choose a good figure (or not so good) and say, "let's see what I can do with him"?

I would start with characters you like, or powers you thnk would be cool to use.

pick characters that fit together well and still give you a range of abilities while having a high mobilization and hard hitters ... it also depends on what point total of force youre trying to make on what guys you use.... personally I wouldnt use more than one person over 100 points on a game under 300 points (unless its thor or dr doom) but its all up to your style of play and how "cheesy" you play...

Thanks, Kang! I've decided to base a team around Aquaman, just to see the looks on their faces when he kills ever single one of their figures! Personally, I don't think I can get much more evil than that without being cheesy or stupid. Aquaman works because he's got just enough attack to do one damage even in spite of invulnerability (and sometimes impervious). So, I just use Blastaar and Hulkster to soften the badies up and then give them the most dishonorable death I can imagine. :D  Hows THAT?

That's a great start. I don't know about you, but I am interested in this game because I love the characters. If I wrote a comic it probably wouldn't be the adventures of Black Panther, Joker, and their friend, the medic. But it also depends on the game. If you're playing at a tournament(which I haven't done, yet) I suppose you need to sacrifice this a bit to win.
Confusion is absolutely right, too. You want to be able to use your turns without pushing. But you also need to hit hard enough to take out the trash. Now if they would just make a good Aqualad support piece you'd be set!
