From the Jon Leithusser interview
"I also have to take into account playability. Most characters work just fine, Galactus doesn't, Superman 1,000,000 doesn't, Ego the Living Planet doesn't, the Endless don't, etc."
Okay, I think I might have an idea on how to play Ego The Living Planet in Heroclix. It's more of a senario kind of thing, granted, but it might be fun.
Ego would be it's own affiliation. The members of that affiliation would be the Kirbyesque creatures it spawns to fight the heroes. The Ego player would have to pay a base amount of points to play Ego (let's say 100 or 150) and for that base, he/she could play the members of the Ego affiliation and have control over the map. So for one action the Ego player gets to move a piece of hindering terrain so many spaces or a piece of blocking terrain a few less spaces as well as give his/her creatures actions.
It's a rough idea and would require a special map, but what do you think?
