View Full Version : Traders do you use the Have/Wants link?

I am a pretty avid trader and almost always scan the trade threads each time I visit HCRealms. I am curious how many traders actually use the H/W tool. I find it very useful and makes trading a lot easier. I am surprised how many traders continue to type up these long lists of haves and wants and post them. I used to do this and know how much work it is. However, once I finally used the H/W link I have never had to do it again. To me its a lot eassier to click have or want on the units page then to type up a list.
So, if your a trader and don't use it, why?
If you do use it, has it made trading easier for you?
When trading do you perfer the other person to have a typed out list or use the H/W link?
Curious to see what you all say.

I don't know about pretty, but you are kind of easy on the eyes.
Yeah, I use the buttons, but sometimes I don't. Just depends on what the trader says they have where.
I use it to see what others have for trade, but since I don't generally keep a ton of figures in *stock* as trade fodder, I tend to not use it to list what I have myself.
I'll be completely honest. I used it once. Have never updated it since. I'm too lazy. I just copy and paste my have/wants and edit where necessary from previous trade threads.

I really haven't found it to be that useful, to be honest. I've checked a user's H/W page on occasion, but nothing muh has come of it. These days if I see a thread that says "Check my H/W" I tend to assume they don't have anything interesting enough to put in their first poist, and move on.
I probably update mine maybe once a year. Short attention span kicks in if I have to start looking at two different screens. Just find it easier to browse in a thread.

yeah I have one, and usually check other peoples,... but like everyone else. I forget to update it, especially when trading is done in person.
but I just saw your H/W and have made an offer :)

I just find the H/W list to be counter-intuitive and a pain to use, honestly.
Not a fan.

I'd like to use it, but I just can't commit myself to the time it would take to fill it out completely. Especially because my "wants" are always a very short list.

I use it. If anything my wants are updated more than my haves, but for the most part it is accurate.
incredible

I utilize it.
Mine is updated with every acquisition.
Never used it, doubt I ever will. Generally I don't look at other peoples H/W list either. It's annoying to me to go into a trade thread that basically says "go to this other trade thread to see what's really going on. Umm.. no thanks.
Also, there should be a way to remove the button for those of us that don't want to use it.

I always use it and find it way more convenient to look through then somebody’s trade thread especially when they have a lot of haves/wants. I find it odd that many people here don't utilize this function. It's a fairly quick and easy way to keep your entire collection organized and is easily accessible by others.

Aside from the excuse of just being lazy, I can't think of an excuse not to use the H/W button. For people with a large list of extras it can be time consuming, but nobody said you had to do it all at once. It is so much easier to navigate rather than someone's cut and paste list on a trade thread. Many people here post their trade lists and don't even bother to separate sets or include figure numbers. Many of them are complete jumbled messes and difficult to read. I won't even bother with lists like that. The H/W link is a much more organized system hands down. My trade threads has my main wants listed in the body, but I also tell everyone to click the H/W button for a complete list of my haves and wants. I don't think that more than half of the people bother to look though. What I find very irritating is when I spend a good amount of time going through someone's H/W link and send them a pm with a full list of what I need that they have and what I have that they need only to get a reply that says they haven't updated it in a long time and no longer need or have those things. I update my list with each trade or when I get new figures. It's not that hard to do and people that look at it don't need to guess. I think that it is a great feature and use it often. I did the cut and paste thing for years and find this system to be so much easier. I hate getting an offer and not being able to see what the other person has.
I feel dumb. I was going to go update mine for all of those avid H/W users, but I can't figure out how to add things to my list
Cancel that! I think I just remembered!
There. I can officially say that I have updated my Have/Want list. Unfortunately, because BaTB is not in the units section yet, so I can't add my Flashes or Flash/Superman to my "Haves" list or add Black Hand to my "Want" list.

I've never used it. And honestly if someone posts a thread that says "Check my H/W button" that ends any interest I have right then and there.
So throw me in the boat of don't like it. I can't exactly explain why, but I just like checking someone's list they have on the thread. It just seems like it's easier and makes more sense to me.
Wait actually I think the main reason is I can copy and paste their trade/sales/auction listing, paste it into Word, take out what I don't want and then send that to them. Much easier IMO. With the H/W list you try and copy it and it just gets all messed up.

Agreed!
I'm not a fan of the H/W button.

I don't use the H/W button either for the exact same reason.
Now that all of my Haves are logged onto the H/W button...
I'm still going to post my Haves/Wants the same way I always have.
Now, I will just post the other option too.
I would use it if it had a search function that allowed you to find other traders that had figures that you wanted and you have what they want. As it is, it is easier to post a list right on the trade thread. It is easier to maintain that way than to constantly update have/wants lists.

Considering that the have/want link breaks the figures down by set, number, quantity and seperates everything in an easy to read manner I don't see how the other method is easier. You can also just as easily copy and paste the list from the haves/wants link into word. If you don't want the boxes that seperate the words, then you can simply click the "text only" option. To each their own I guess, but since I now know that some people don't want to even bother clicking the H/W button I will do it both ways. I wish I had known that sooner because I might have received more trade offers.
