View Full Version : Multiple targets and Mind Control (Elektra)

This has been brought up in a couple of other threads, so I thought that I'd bring it all together in a dedicated thread.
The word is that U Elektra from the Xplosion set is going to have Mind Control and two lightning bolts.
The general consensus seems to be that she will legally be able to target two models with Mind Control.
So, let's discuss:
1. Is there a general consensus on this? Will she be able to target two models with Mind Control?
2. If so, is timing an issue? Suppose Elektra succeeds at her roll and controls two models. It seems fairly clear that Mind Control lasts until the end of the action assigned to the character, but does not actually begin until the action is assigned. As such, if two models (X and Y) are controlled, are X and Y allies or enemies?
3. As ManninM asked in another thread, how is the 100+ point damage worked out? Does Elektra check for damage from each model, or are the models' values totalled? My gut feeling is that it's worked out separately because there are two targets.
4. Am I the only one who hopes that they update the FAQ on this issue before they ship Xplosion?

1. Yes I would think so. I made stats for Persuasion (the Purple Girl) and gave her 3 Bolts - so I hope so.
2. I would think since you usually resolve one hit at a time, that would also be the case here. It's two attacks not an Energy Explosion. So I think you could, for example, get X to hit Y and then get Y to retaliate against X if you wanted to.
3. Logically I think the two would count seperately, again because it is not an Energy Explosion type of situation.
4. Should be updated, if people get confused.
I find that sometimes problems that people generally have are the result of over-thinking the situations, and tend to make them more complicated than they should be. The rules are meant to be pretty straight forward and taken simply. :)

multitarget attacks are simultaneous so X and Y are considered MC'd at the same time and therefore are friendly to elektra and to each other.
unless they make a faq update i don't think X and Y will be able to attack each other.
also i think if they attack the same target, W, then they should attack simultaneously so you would add up the damage if the both roll high enough to get past W's defenses and take all the clicks off at the same time.
i don't know how this will effect inv and toughness though... i guess it will add like EE and splash damage since that is simultaneous also... if so that makes multitarget MC even more powerful

I think the two mind controlled figures would be considered friendly for the duration of the mind controll.
I do not know how I would handle the actions of the individual targets. I would think that the mind controll itself sets up an alternate reality in ways, (sorry to digress into comic book talk) where you now have two new figures on your team and they both can seperatly take an action. But I really have no clue.
I asked this question in another thread the day the electra preview came out and the answers I have gotten have been:
Yes, you may MC two figs
The two figs are controlled simultaneously, so they cannot attack each other
The damage to the mind controller would be based on individual figs, so two 50 point figs controlled would equal no damage

Yes, I firmly believe so. I've stated that in some of the other threads you mentioned (and on a personal note, sorry if I sounded frustrated in those posts, SO)

Like Incapacitating two targets, they both take place at the same time. Another point, there is only ONE dice roll. The only timing issue would be if there were some attack like Flurry involved where there are two separate rolls, one for each attack. Both X and Y would be yours to control and both would be friendly to your team. They could not attack each other as well.

My guess is that it will be a target by target amount. If X has 99 points and Y has 99 points, you would NOT take any damage. Logically, I can see both sides of this argument and personally I would argue that the TOTAL points of the figures would be the amount to determine damage. If X was 50 and Y was 50, Elektra would take a click of damage. Why? It's not easy to MC two figures at once. Why won't WK do that? The current rules say if a single figure's point cost is over 100, you will take a click, and WK wants to keep the rules simple. They don't want to keep adding special situations to the rules. So you would only take a click if one or both target's points are over 100 individually.

Hopefully more than 11 total rule clarifications between the two sets too.

Is that anything like "Calgon! Take me away!" or "Watson! Come here, I need you!"?
