View Full Version : Marvel Comic music.
Just saw Daredevil, have to say very impressed a long time DD fan i was happy with the depth they put into Matt Murdock and the the whole inner turmoil thing, Elektra wasnt needed, Bullseye was done well as was Kingpin. What this post is about is the poorly choosen music in not only DD but in Spider-Man and countless other comic book movies. What happened to the days of orchestra's doin music for comic book movies, Danny Elfman did Batman, John Williams doing Superman. The last thing i relate Spidey to is the band saliva or nickleback. X-men used orchestra music, not alot but it was still there. I think this translates for me maybe not other but personally when i read my comics i like fitting music. Yes sometimes i'll listen to heavy metal and other music but it fits the comic, I would never listen to Frank Sinatra while reading Spider-Man. Some of the music choices in Daredevil were awful, if any comic book movie needed an instrumental soundtrack it was that one, such a dark character and at parts really dark movie, and they have these ####py new metal bands doin music. The Superman theme Batman theme and even X-men theme were awe inspering, they made you think of the character's when you hear the song's. Maybe i'm wrong i don't know but let me hear your opinion, also i prefer listening to music when playin clix, usually instrumental soundtracks or action based music.

It's true that they don't need people or groups like Rob Zombie(DD) and Marilyn Manson(Matrix) to put on the soundtracks. There is a ton of great music out there that they needn't fall short on the soundtracks like they did. Like with Matrix, GREAT movie with a HORRIBLE soundtrack.
On the Spider-Man soundtrack I have to disagree. I for one like it. It could have been better(by better I mean the inclusion of the song they used for the trailers) but it could have also gone the Matrix route and totally lambasted it.
As for Elektra, any DD fan will agree with me that she is as much a part of the storyline as MJ, MAY & Uncle Ben are to Spider-Man.
Mr. Cranberry, let me recommend looking for the score to the Matrix (as opposed to the soundtrack.) It's got the orchestral music from the film alone.

Sorry what i meant to say about Elektra was i think they didnt do her justice, it seems like she was there for the cleavage, i think Jennifer Garner was an amazing choice for the part, looks and training wise, just wish she wouldve been more serious a character by the time she got serious she died. As far as the music thing goes, i understand wanting to get fans of top 40 music into the plot through music, but don't make Spideys theme song a nickleback song, the song isnt bad and it kinda fits but, if you listen to the Back to the Future soundtrack thats what i imagine Spidey to be. Same goes for DD i imagine his theme to be Batman esque or Terminator esque dark sullen but powerful.
Suggested clix music Batman soundtrack(not the Prince one) Superman soundtrack, X-men Soundtrack and some of the Lord of the Rings instrumetals.
As far as bands that should do music for comic book movies, let actuall fans do it. Theres a reason the band Static-X has that name the lead singer is a huge X-men fan, if you wanted hard fast battle music that wouldve been the best bet, same goes for Spidey a nice instrumental guitar solo by Joe Perry of Areosmith wouldve rocked for his theme, after all Joe Perry wrote the theme for the cartoon he's a huge Spidey fan.

I don't like it either...
Once soundtracks became marketable, it just went downhill.
Pop culture gave us both the great movie and the comercial soundtrack it was selling.
Spidey: Hey, "Hero" and AeroSmith's version of the Spidey theme are both very good IMO.
DD: I half agree on this one. I personally liked some of the songs ("Bring Me To Life" is one), but I do agree that dark, orchestra music would've fit better for this particular movie.
