Have you used it or seen it used? Does it have a good future in Heroclix? Can you think of many characters that this would work well with? Could it have been done differently/better? What sayeth you?

I would rather have had new characters. I don't think there are a lot of instances where I would want to build my team with Clark Kent. Superman is the character I want to play. I think it is a waste of precious space in a set. Especially when there are still so many missing team members out there like Sand from the JSA.

I haven't used it, but the figures in question, the Checkmate generics, have three clicks of life each, and the pawns start with 8 AV's for 1 damage. How are you going to KO someone with an 8 AV and dealing 1 damage? They'd have to be on their last click. Otherwise, you have to get lucky and roll the crit. hit.
This mechanic is not nearly as impressive as the Alter Ego ability, and it's also more difficult to pull off.

I like the idea, but I really think they messed up with the upgrades, especially for Sups, He never has better then toughness the whole dial. I would have given him 1 click of Impervious right after the orange line. I'm mean he is still superman. Plus with bats he has no batarangs?. This is batman after all we have seen him pull batarangs from anywhere and everywhere.
I would have the SP say on the AE card, you may upgrade. if you don't when when pass any KO line your KO'ed. If you do, click to the Orange line on the same dial use those powers for the rest of your dial until you pass the next KO when you are Ko'ed. Then list the rules and powers for the new Identify.
This also allows AE clicks to become more cool, because you don't need both clicks to use them and more clicks of others to be made.
That would be a much better way to go, IMO.

I think it was a step in the right direction, but still needs much polishing. I agree that the Checkmate pawns will see very few upgrades.... The crit hit or the KO from these pieces are just not going to happen enough to make the ability that hot that I would go out of my way to use them. That being said, if I had the points left over and If they fit my theme, then I would play them. Not that I'd expect them to pull off the crit or the KO, but if it happened, OK.
My problem with the AE figures is the same. Id have to be playing a low point game, have the points leftover, etc.... I just think these powers are very iffy.... I mean whats to stop your opponent giving Clark enough damage to KO him before you can push him into superman? Or just outwitting the ability to change?(If that can be done? - Anyone??)

my only problem in AE figure's is....more figure's to put on my heroclix tool box..........kent/superman,bruce/batman,jason/etrigam & diana/wonder'w.......:p
and we are going to have more AE from WOS.........:classic:
I've only gotten to play with it a few times so far. It's been amusing (in sealed) to try & lv up my checkmates, but it's not something I think I'd base a team build around.
I don't mind the mechanic existing.
But on the other hand, if it weren't here, it'd make no real difference.
The one thought that I do have concerning it though is this;
All of the pieces that make use of the ability have really short dials.
So short in fact that both sets of stats could have fit on a single dial - with space to spare.
So rather than open gobs & gobs dupe sculpts with short dials in the future, I'd like them to just combine the stats/names/pts onto 1 dial.
And we know this can be done becuase of Shazam/Adam.
Heck, with 12 slots & the Adam/Shazam KO line concept you could actually do a full REV using one sculpt/1 dial for generics like agents, cops, etc. 4 clicks per lv is fine - because these guys aren't the equel of the actual heros/villans they share the world with.
I like the AE idea and execution
think the battlefield Promo is unnecessary (sp?)
i don't like it only because i think it was designed only to sell more pieces. Sure, you could play a checkmate pawn, but what happens if you do get that crit? it encourages you to buy extra pieces that you probably won't use because it doesn't work with you're initial build total
Not too interested. It's a lot of setup for very little payoff. For the extra 10pts I'd prefer to start as the upgrade and use the newb's slot in the set for something more useful. Maybe this would more worthwhile with larger point figs where the difference between the two versions could be more appreciable.

Indifferent at the moment. The mechanic is fine, the figures that have it suck.
If this is supposed to take the idea from Horrorclix of a monster being blooded, it's not a bad one. However, I agree that it should be on larger figures, and make it a trait so it doesn't take up room on the dial.
How about trying it out with Hulk? Make two Hulks, calm Hulk and angry Hulk. At any time, if calm Hulk would be dealt 3 or more damage, apply damage, then you may replace with angry Hulk on the same click number.
Better now?

The chances of ACTUALLY doing it are too slim to be worth it...plus, they are only 3 clicks long.
I like it. Last night, I had Diana jump in a grave then spin around to become Wonder Woman. It was good for my team and the players loved shouting "Wonder Woman" in a Stewie-like voice.

I would prefer it to be a Trait, the junior memeber have it for his entire dial, or have it for his last x-number of clicks. I think it would be more interesting to allow the level-up on the junior members last few clicks, right before he/she is KO'ed: tapping hidden reserves.

I haven't seen it used or anything. I only use League of Assassins and, if I remember right, only the Checkmates get field promotions, right?

Looks like most people, here, aren't thrilled with it. Maybe if future figures have a better chance of it working it will become more popular. I haven't seen anyone at my venue try to use it.

I don't even consider this thing to be 'a mechanic', its just another SP.
Is it useful? Not terribly, so far. But on a figure I was going to use as filler anyway, I'd rather have it than not.
Impartial because I'd never build a team around the idea that its going to go off. If it happens, eh, ok.

I am sooo lost on the new 'alter ego' power and also the 'level up' game mechanic does not compute. Any help?
I think it would have been better to just make them Duo figures I like the mechanic but when the power can be OUTWITED I sort of feel like it's useless to even try and build a team with Clark, Bruce, or Diana.
The only thing that really irks me about it is the hype.
The "battlefield promotion" is a special power that relates to two generics in the set. Its hardly a "new mechanic". the Æ mechanic? yeah, that qualifies as a new mechanic. We're going to see it in multiple sets on multiple figures, in both universes.
Web Shooting? How many figures in future sets will have this? is it going to make every one of the mountains of Spider-Mans and Venoms obsolete? Or will it be something that sees little play, and is most likely to stay within the Web Of The Spider-Man set? And then if so, should it be hyped as a "new mechanic?" We expect new SPs in new sets now. They are not all "New Mechanics" is there any reason why more than one character can't have a SP without calling it a mechanic?

I have yet to play with any of them, but they all seem pretty cool. I voted mostly satisfied. I like the variety it brings to team-building and the potential for the unknown (will he get the chance or won't he?) it brings to a game.
i like the idea, im trying it tonight so ill know for sure but i like the idea becouse it changes your team creation process. for eg.. i can put my pawns in, getting more figs in there and risc getting the promotion or take the safe rought and just put the knights in, getting less figs in the game. its kinda fun.and in the comic when a checkmate pawn did well on the field he did recieve a promotion working his way up to king or queen.

i kinda like this idea, one half is bruce wayne the other half is batman and as his dial is clicked down then he becomes the batman half. thats pretty cool idea
