I have avoided trading or shipping international because of the rule saying airmail is required and my lack of airmail knowledge. I like to keep shipping costs low and am curious about what the cheapest airmail option is called, is it just international priority mail?

It depends on what you're sending. If the package is 13 oz or less, you can still send First Class International which would be the cheapest. Then comes Priority International for anything over 13 oz. First Class and Priority are both "airmail". The cheapest in general would be Parcel Post which is shipped by boat.

If you ship by boat, it could take months for the package to arrive to some countries. The savings aren't worth it.

The 13 oz max for first class before it goes to priority is for domestic US. You can send packages first class international that's over 13 oz. Its actually cheaper sometime to send something international from the US than domestically.
Also, I don't think you can do parcel post for international anymore.

Honestly, I would suggest sending something with an international shipping company like UPS, FEDEX, or DHL. I say this because USPS will basically drop the item off at customs and wash their hands of it. An international shipping company will see to it that the item is delivered to that persons house and will provide valid tracking the entire way. Its pricey, but shipping internationally is always a risk, so the money spent for one of the international companies is well worth it.
