Is damage from pulse wave penetrating damage?

Or, for example, if you have impervious, does it negate PW?

Ive read up on everything else i need to know, but i couldnt find the answer to that one question.. thanks in advance guys.

It isn't technically penetrating damage, but as Pulse Wave ignores all powers of characters within range of the attack, you don't need to worry about damage reducers. Unless it is a special damage reducer such as HoT Ulik's, which specifically says that his power can't be ignored.

It also ignores feats so you can't use protected against it. Dun forget that.

From the player's guide link in units section-
"Pulse Wave
- Powers ignored by Pulse Wave are not considered countered. Powers out of the range of the Pulse Wave attack still affect it normally. If a character using Perplex or Outwit is within range of the Pulse Wave attack, that power is considered in range and is ignored during this attack.
- While Pulse Wave ignores powers and abilities, it does not counter them. Therefore, terrain created as a result of using a power is considered terrain and affects Pulse Wave normally, even if the character generating that terrain is within range of the Pulse Wave. Characters holding an object due to a feat or power would still be able to hold the object and even use the held object (if it helps defensively).
- Characters with feats or team abilities that affect what happens upon their KO (such as Fantastic Four or Lazarus Pit) are still ignored during the Pulse Wave action. They still have a team symbol and are considered members of their teams, so characters outside the range of the Pulse Wave can benefit.
- Powers, feats, and team abilities possessed by someone inside the range of the Pulse Wave that normally prevent knock back would be ignored if doubles are rolled during the Pulse Wave attack.
- A character’s own powers, feats, and team abilities would not be ignored during the Pulse Wave attack.
-The second sentence begins ―"All powers, traits, and team abilities possessed or used…""

good to note- Pulse Wave doesn't ignore terrain- you could hide behind a wall, or past elevated terrain. You still get the +1 bonus from being in/drawn through Hindering, but stealth won't activate as it's ignored.

Also, i recall seeing this somewhere on the realms, but cannot remember exactly where- if a power's effect being ignored would cause the figure to no longer be a valid target, that effect is NOT ignored.
IE, Mordru's SP that gives him Giant size, if your PW'er was on elevated terrain, and Giant Mordru was not, you could draw line of fire to the giant, but not to a non-giant, so his SP's Giant Size effect is NOT ignored, he continues to be a target while his other powers and effects are ignored.

Exactly, Pulse Wave ignores everything except hindering bonus, so anyone you are attacking still gets +1 defense in hindering, though that shouldn't be. A Pulse Wave attack goes through everything realistically, it destroys anything in range of it, including a bush to hide in. There should be a rule change, no hindering bonus against a Pulse Wave attack.

well, there are a lot of powers that "realistically" could use a change... you could view it that pulse wave is destroying the terrain, and that destroyed terrain slowed/blocked the pulse wave partially to the figure that it was in the way to.
Never normally a problem for me except rarely, and thats what PC is for!
