Hey guys. I have a question for all of you heroclix players who are also comic book fans. My local comic book shop is offering a 25% discount on comics when you reserve at least 5 titles per month. I have been out of reading comics for about 5 years now, but I recently picked up Hawkman #1 and got hooked. I have issues #1-12 and I am eagerly awaiting #13. But anyway, I would like 4 more comics (I have already chosen Daredevil as one), to get into and I was hoping some of you had suggestions. I am looking to get into current comics that are not too far along (such as Hawkman), so I can purchase all the back issues. So far, I have heard great things about JSA (which would also satisfy my Hawkman craving), but I would like some Marvel as well. I think I heard Captain America has a new series, but other than that, what are some good ones to pick up? I don't want to get into anything that has more than 30-40 issues out right now...except the new Daredevil, that one is a sure thing. Anyway, thanks in advance for your advice.

Yours Truly,

DrDoomNic

This book is great. It is on issue #7 currently so you won't miss much and you can get the trade of the 1st five issues for like 12 bucks and keep collecting from her on.

I also like the current Batman run with Jim Lee. My dealer also really like Planetary or Global Frequency. I don't read either but he loves them. I hope this helps.

Well, I am trying to get into books of characters I already know. I know around April Marvel is doing new series' of Mystique (a fave villain of mine), Venom, Sub-Mariner, and Human Torch. I have always liked Hawkman and that is why when I saw the #1 (while I was purchasing clix...), I picked it up. Ones I am currently leaning towards are: Hawkman, Daredevil, Captain America, The Ultimates, JLA or JSA (not sure which), Green Arrow, Mystique, and Batman: Gotham Knights. If anyone is a current reader of any of these and would like to give a yay/nay vote I would be appreciative.

definatley gotta recomend THe Ultimates, Green Arrow, and both JSA and JLA (Thought JSA is higher on my personal favorites list) but if you are going to get either of the Justice books, jump on now because they are both about to kick off some major story arcs. Green Arrow is definately an enjoyable read (all though with winnick taking over soon, I make no promises). You can probably pick up the collection of Kevin Smith's run at your local comic shop and that will give you everything you needed to know. I don't know how old you are, but if you prefer reading about the teen heroes (robin, superboy etc.) Geoff Johns, the writer of JSA is kicking off a new Teen Titans series in may I believe.
Hope some of this was helpful.

Avoid Sub-Mariner like the plague! Did you see Previews? It's Namor, Boy-Mariner. All part of Marvel's push to get teenagers reading comics, and they're going to mangle one of their first characters to do it. Bunch of sellouts. Marvel's going through another stupid phase, so wait until they're done with the manga/young readership push before you jump in.

I have been out of it for about 10 years but I find myself buying the newer Uncanny Xmen, with Kia Asayima's work. Definently like the Ultimate X-men too but I wait and buy the TPB's. Hulk has been good. JLA is about the only DC I really look for anymore.

Just a thought.
