Swarm teams work well under the right circumstances. Truth be told, I havn't had much luck with them against serious teams. My swarm team works best against other swarm teams. It works on either indoor or outdoor maps, though it's certainly better on indoor ones.
LE Blade 37
V Vampire Lackey 20 (X8)
E Vampire Lackey 17 (X6)
Total- 299
I once slaughtered a SHIELD team with this army. It could decimate a serious army as well, but only if the dice are in your favor that day.
I've never really tried one... give me a second....
You would need free movers, otherwise you'll just get picked off one by one. E Quicksilver can be amazing, and E or V Toad, though not very cheap, would also be pretty good. Add in a few chap BCFers to hopefully get around Invulnerability and you should be good to go.
I don't think that a swarm team needs to be QUITE as big as Wyldstaars... I think that if you have twice as many figs as your opponent, then you are swarming, so figure 10ish for 200 and 12ish for 300.
Hope this helps-

SHIELD teams work well since they can boost each other. And dont forget Fury. :)

Sure SHIELD can boost each other, but that burns up actions very quickly. It's even worse if you miss after spending two or three actions on one attack.

I have had some luck with various Skrull teams..
I wont bother to list the exacts, since they change every time..
Superskrull
2 doombots
tons of skrulls.. I find that rookie skrull comandos are very effective. 11 points, 8 attack, 2 damage, 7 move.
Superskrull can running shot and then be carried behind your skrulls. Eventually, they'll probably take down superskrull but then your regular skrulls can take over with swarm tactics.
I also throw on a SHIELD agent to lend some power to my doombots. ;) He is actually a skrull disguised as a shield agent.
Another decent swarm team is to use tons of doombots, a member of the synister syndicate (vet bullseye has the hightes attack value to share, but exp doctor octopus is more resiliant) and a free moving figure (rookie scarlet witch, rookie quicksilver, rookie black panther) A shield member would be nice too as he would be your only way past invulnerability.

True, but the idea is to have enough of them and group formations so that you can alternate back and forth between the groups.

Now that I think about it, a SHIELD team isn't all that bad. I'm probably biased due to seeing them get massacred by my Vampire army. SHIELD might do quite well against other teams, especially non-stealth teams. The main reason SHIELD got wiped out was their inability to target the Vampires until it was too late. Other teams like the Skrulls or Hydra wouldn't have that kind of advantage.
Here's another 300 point swarm army I've thrown together. No dupes. All character figures except for the Medic.
U Captain America 35
U Cyclops 39
U Electra 36
E Avalanche 26
V Blade 33
V Pyro 42
E Quicksilver 24
E Wasp 33
R Vulture 15
V AIM Medic 17
Total- 300

depending on how large your point build is i'd say go with r and e quickslivers for small games and v toads/e quicksilvers for large games. alternatively you can have one cheap avenger/brotherhood and then a bunch of rookie doombots to swarm.
also have at least one v doc oc or LE doom for small games and for large games bump that up to 2 perplexers. if you play mix there are even cheaper perlexers... but boo to dc i say. use your perplexers to perplex quiksilvers attack up to 3. 3+flurry is very nice, but you will still have trouble hitting high defenses. or you can add a few rookie black panthers with avengers FM to undo invulnerability
i don't think swarm teams are really swarm teams without high movement and free movement. imagine being able to move 10+ figs up 10+ squares at a time... now that is a swarm.
