Does anyone know how rare the Black Suit Promo Wolverine (identical to the Red ring Vet Wolverine in every respect except the paint job) actualy is ? I understand it was done for the US Toy Fair in 2002.

So - about how many were done ?

and (obviously) how much do they tend to cost / be traded for ?

On another thread it said $200 - $300 dollars on ebay - which I can't quite believe. but on the other hand they do seem to be rare.

So, how rare ?

LoL

I've seen em from around $200 all the way up to $600 on ebay

I haven't even heard of em until recently. So obviously if someone hasnt even heard of it, it has to be rare.

ok i have seen the "promo" fig on ebay before but me personally (i could be wrong) i dont think its legit (again i could be wrong) i think that its just a hoax by some gusy that repainted a wolverine if anyone could give some kind of substantial proof that would be great untill then i wont even worry about it

No, they are legit. I would guess - and this is a TOTAL guess - there were around a thousand of them made. Any many of them probably went to people who discarded them (as you do with most of the promo stuff you get at conventions).

I have a photo of the one mentioned on another thread (out of it's packaging), and a possible line on one that might be still in it's packaging. If I can get the still-in-it's-packaging fig and compare it to the photo, I may be in a position to know for sure.

I agree, if 1,000 were made for a convention giveaway, you're probably lookin at a 60% loss - so maybe 400 - 500 left if your guess is right.

My initial thought was it must be a fake - I mean, I've been active on HCRealms since before the release of IC, and I'd never heard of this promo till the other day.

Still, there you go.

I'm begining to think they exist - I should get proof or otherwise in about a week.

OK - my source in the UK says they come in sets of 4, and are not sealed or carded.

Could anyone who went to US Toyfair 2002 confirm whether they were definitly bagged and carded, and whether they came in 4's, which sounds a bit odd...

Noman, there was a conversation about this a long time ago, when Scrye / Inquest (or one of the two) published pricing information on black wolvie. It was the first that most of us here ever heard about this promo, and it was a lot closer to the Toyfair, so you might want to search around and find some info there. As I recall, there were people who actually went to Toyfair who posted on that thread, and gave more information than I can remember about black wolvie. I don't think he was given away in groups of four, unless that was at a different (venue-oriented, perhaps?) promotion.

Hope that helps your quest. ;)

hopefully this helps your quest out a bit more...

isn't it "toyfare," not "toyfair?" correct me if i'm wrong, though.

might seem small, but spelling makes a lot of difference, especially when searching on eBay...

I recently saw a "promo" Daredevil up for bidding on ebay. From the photo it appeared to be the same as a veteran DD but it was single packaged as a "promo" with the Promo card. It sold for over $50. I never heard of this "promo" version DD and wondered if it was legit.

apparently, it is. there has been some discussion on this on this thread (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27325)...

it seems that it's only worth that much if it's unopened, since it's exactly the same as the DD you can get in the booster packs.

Yes, packaging seems to be important.

There are two Promo Batman packs, apparantly, but I think only the card is different. Weird.

I have (I hope) acquired a "black wolverine" promo which should be with me in about 5 days. I will check it against the pic that has already been posted, and then we'll see...

...and yes, apparantly there was both a Daredevil and a Hulk promo, which were simply the Red ring figures, carded and bagged differently. What makes "black wolvie" interesting is the different (official) paint job.

So it may have been answered, but are there any stat differences? I suppose we are not talking about ninja wolverine.

There is seemingly Univeral agreemant that the "dark wolverine" promo is absolutly identical in all respects to the Vet Wolverine 75 (and has the same number) appart from the paint job.

I will check, though, and post confirmation.

okay, which is rarer -- Bruce Banner LE or this Dark Promo Wolverine? (or is it "more rare?")

i haven't seen the wolverine on sale anywhere, whereas there is usually at least 1 bruce banner up for sale on eBay...

i remember seeing a dark wolverine auction going for $70 with 3 days to go on eBay way back then, and i thought, "are they crazy? $70 for a promo?" eventually i picked one up for $30, thinking i overpaid... now i'm looking for a 2nd one so i can open mine up and "display" him along with my other clix -- but i can't find any sealed ones for sale anywhere.

There are probably less "Dark Wolverines" out there.

...and the one I thought I was getting turned out to be the Unique with the sword, rather than the LE/Promo !!!

(Some people just don't understand the difference between Unique and LE and Promo, do they ?)

I think the vendor made an honest mistake - I certainly did.

Ouch.
