View Full Version : I have entirely too many Heroclix that are worth absolutely nothing.

LIke, just boxes upon boxes of figures from half a decade ago, totally unsorted. Is there any good way of offloading such a massive amount of figures that would never be sold otherwise?

If your itrader feedback was higher, I think an auction is the best way to clear out miscellaneous HeroClix.
There are often figures that don't get bid on, but some sellers give these to the highest overall bidder, to reward those who have bought a lot.
Here's a question regarding auctions: How would people feel if a seller included "All Figures Without Bids" as an auction item? That is, you could bid on the chance to purchase any remaining figures that didn't attract any normal bids. There probably wouldn't be a lot of bids on this item, but towards the end of the auction I figure that some people might be interested in trying their chances on such a lucky dip.
(I'm not actually planning to ru an auction soon; I just think this would be an interesting idea.)

I really like the idea, and I could see it being used by people who are running the auction for housecleaning as much as revenue...

it's sad really. all those lonely clix just aching to be played with...poor, poor hobgoblin...
reminds me of toy story to an extent...

Do you think an auction would be better than a sale thread? What has been your experience with auctions? I was thinking of doing something like this and just pricing figs at $.10 just to get rid of them. I've never run an auction and really just want to get rid of some of these old figs that I deem worthless and I am wondering what the best way to go about it is. I gave a bunch away when I moved but recently found several shoe boxes full that I missed.
Also, if I won an auction and was "gifted" the unbid items, I would be unhappy, but that's probably because I'm trying to get rid of stuff rather than accumulate more. I could see how newer players would appreciate it.

If you're already planning to blow them out for ten cents each, then absolutely try an auction.
Worst case, it wouldn't have sold either way.
Better case, one guy willing to pay ten cents comes along. This would have happened with a straight sale as well.
Best case, more than one guy wants it and bids up the price. This can only happen with an auction.

That makes sense. I guess I'm just worried about the extra time commitment and monitoring that an auction would require. For those who have done auctions on this site, how do they compare to a regular sales thread?

I've run a couple.
By the time you figure in haggling and all, I'd say an auction actually takes less time than trying to sell all those pieces directly. You just need to be diligent about updating the post on a regular basis.

I just recently did an auction because of this exact same thing. All items started at FREE and went up $0.25 per bid. All it really cost people was shipping and handling. It was easy to run. I even threw in an old Unique or LE as a thank you.
Some people actually ended up bidding real money which was great. Some also just threw in some extra money because they were getting something for free. Think I ended up making $20 - $30 on figures that under normal circumstances, I wouldn't have been able to sell.
As for auction vs sale... An auction at least gives a person a little pressure to make up their mind if they want to impulse buy. A sale will most likely just sit there as there isn't any pressure to buy.
Auction vs sale.
If you have less than 200 line items, I would say an auction takes less time. If you have much more, sale is the way to go. Someone just did a huge auction with over 1000 figs recently and it took him lots of time to update each evening. It was probably worst than work.

Give them away. I gave approx. 2,000 pieces, with maps, objects, tokens to an elementary school. That was three years ago and they still use them.

i would use my unwanted figs as an incentive to get new people in the game give them a team or 2 and see if they come back and start playing in local events. so using unwanted clix to make "Make shift" starter kits for new players might benifit you in the long run creating more people to trade with ect.
either that or you could do some random grab bag sort of thing where there are some good figs and some no so good figs randomly distributed among each other and people pay a flat rate for any random combination of figs some you dont need and a few tossed in there to sweaten the deal for someone who might just be buying it to gamble on the good thing.
oh well just some thoughts i figured i would toss out there
