View Full Version : Reused dials.
There have been a lot of re-issued figs lately and although they're mostly stellar stuff I can't bring myself to buy them when I've already got the same figs already in my collection. An obvious improvement would be to give these figs a new dial but maybe WizKids isn't into designing a new piece for the quick turn around. What about a new sculpt though? I know that is actually more work but it might be a better incentive for re-issuing. A lot of people here already do mods to improve/modernize their existing collections, why not make it official?

Eh, I look at reissues thusly:
Do I have it?
If no, do I want it?
If yes, I buy it. If no, I don't.

Most old dials arent worth playing due to power creep. It would have to be a very small selection of still playable figures with amazing sculpts to get me to buy them. I think better dials on old sculpts would have a better chance of selling.

Seconded. It would also be more cost efficient I would think.

I'd prefer to see old reused sculpts (particularly ones which look amazing), with new dials.
I want to see the majority of Cosmic Justice redone.

This poll makes no sense. I think it would cost more money to design and manufacture a new sculpt than to just design print an new dial. One sticker should be less expensive that a whole new chunk of plastic.
Give me old sculpts, but new dials.
New dials and cool sculpts. As in if the old one is cool, keep it. But if it's not, give it a new sculpt.
Would love for them to redo all the Kingdom Come figures, and Ares from Legacy. That one deserves a new dial just because it might be the coolest sculpt ever in HC.
Other cool sculpts from old that deserves a new dial: Parallax.
Oh, I just realised this could become a very long list. And I haven't started on Marvel and Indy figures yet.
I agree. I want redo of older stuff but only stuff that has not been redone yet.

QFT!!!
There's a lot of really cool, older sculpts that would be awesomely fun and playable again with newer dials. Cheap and easy way for WizKids to put new product in our hands, and we would all be happy with it.
I absolutely would. I got into HeroClix relatively late in the game, so I don't have a ton of older figures. I'm also mainly in it for collecting purposes and really appreciate a good sculpt to put on my shelf.

I'd rather have better dials on old sculpts.
What about "Old sculpts with new dials"? I would have voted for that if it had been there.
I would prefer they tackle the older fig obsolescence issue in the method outlined in my treatise from the hiatus of last year, which (in short) is to create new perforated galley sheets of new printed replacement dials (following whatever the new formulation is) but still based on the printed dial point value of the fig.
Each set kit would include character cards, galley sheets of the new dials for every fig in the set (or they can do a "best of"...who knows).
For a more detailed explanation of what I'm suggesting, read my original OP from last year [WARNING: VERY LONG] with comments...
http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=258155
My update would be -- It doesn't have to be replacement dials for every figure in a expansion set...could be just a "best of" to fill holes of prominent figs yet to be slated for new sculpts, or popular character sets or TA themed sets..."See Masters of Evil".
Marvel - No.
DC - Probably, which is really sad. I'm obsessed with my DC Heroclix.
It really doesn't make a lot of sense to me, though. Reusing sculpts seems like it would save on production costs, but I would think reusing dials would have a much smaller cost savings. If we are going to get something new out of something getting reused, it makes more sense to do new dials and reuse sculpts like with Batman Alpha.

That move would be ridiculous. Why spend all the extra money for new sculpts on dials that nobody is going to want? As many have said, new dials on old sculpts makes much more sense.

Not a chance. I would pay (gladly) for old sculpts but new dials, but not the reverse. There are a lot of great sculpts out there with VERY mediocre or even terrible dials (AV Taskmaster, Red Skull with Cosmic Cube, Super Adaptoid, Chamber, HT U Catwoman, Starter Man-Bat, Cyborg Superman, Parasite, etc., etc., etc...) that would make a great basis for a couple cost-efficient sets that NECAWK could put out over the next couple of years.
I wouldn't spend (waste) the money on them personally.
I wouldn't mind the old dials since so many of them now have that black mold on them. I'd love to be able to replace those dirty dials, bad sculpts, new sculpts, or none at all, just the dial.
I perfer those old dials because I hate the special powers. No cards, no feats, just dial man...just the dial...
I don't fully agree with the No answer, I would buy old sculpts on New Dials but that wasn't an option, but I wouldn't buy old dials with new sculpts. I'd never seen that suggested and is frankly rediculous, the time investment on a sculpt is far lower than that of a dial I would believe. Even if it wasn't, a lot of figures with amazing sculpts (sinister Wolvie) would really be helped out by special powers (autoregen light or something) not to mention stay competitive with the shorter yet higher statted recent dials.

No one doesn't play Puppet Master because the sculpt isn't very good. They don't play him because he has one of the worst dials in the history of the game.
Modders won't stop modding if Wizkids makes new sculpts of some characters. They mod because they can.
This is such a bad idea to me, that I am struggling to properly convey my thoughts here.
Who can hand-pick seven characters that they would pay $30.00 for to get new sculpts to go along with dials that they already have? How about paying $12.00 for a blind booster containing five random characters? Would you spend the money then?
I may wish that the Thing weren't toting around a hot dog cart, but it isn't a $30.00 problem.
Now what if they had new dials? Can anyone hand-pick seven existing sculpts that they would pay $30.00 for if they had new dials? What if they had a set made entirely of recycled sculpts but contained new dials for characters that have been made, but not since special powers were introduced? Would you buy a brick of that? Could you see yourself spending $12.00 for a booster, maybe?
There is simply no good reason for Wizkids to make new sculpts for old dials.
But since you don't have a "new dials, old sculpts" option, I will not be voting. I am not going to say "Completely new or nothing at all" because that isn't the truth.

Id be more apt of taking the older sculpts with updated dials instead of the other way around.

For the most part, NO. In my opinion, there are too few dials that are still playable to make it worth it.
I'd much rather the opposite, actually. If I could buy re-issued figs that had a NEW dial but the OLD sculpt, I'd be fine with that!

What about the other way around? I'd take re-used sculpts with dials updated to make them usable in modern age.

I would have voted for "Yes," had the extra text on that option not been there. My full explanation, though, is yes, I might if I didn't already have the dial and wanted to get the dial. The new sculpt wouldn't really make any difference. So they might as well just stick with the old sculpt as well.

i would love to see some of the great sculpts get new and improved dials.
I like the sculpts but i love the game. The dials make a difference in the game...so i voted negitivo.
I would like to buy a old Supes of HT with new dial. I like the "our worlds at war" sculpt a lot too, same as the Superman Blue/Red (with new dial).

Reused sculpts, new dials for me as well. I'd totally be down with that.
I wouldn't buy an old dial with a new sculpt, unless it was sculpted of pure Awesome. Which (if they've gone that far) they might as well save for a complete re-do of the figure (as they've already done the really hard, expensive, time-consuming part with the new sculpt... right?)

My thoughts exactly. This poll doesn't make any sense. Who wants the old dials? Nobody. If anything, you'd reprint an old sculpt with a new dial, not vice versa.
Remember those days back when characters had attack values of 4 or 5 or 6 at the end of their dials? Blech! :p

i agree, new dials on the old sculpts similar to fcbd iron man and war machine
not enough options in this poll.
I say give us old sculpts with updated dials, traits, and character cards.
No vote. Poll failure!
I would [U]IF[U] the remakes were done my Phoenix Force!!! :)
I guess old dials would be fine if the figs being replaced had cycled out.
I have to wonder how many of the people who voted "Heck yeah!" didn't really understand the question. New sculpts and old dials sounds like a terrible move all around, as most of the people posting have noted. It's difficult to believe that over 100 people would have given a thumbs up to the idea if they actually understood it.

Old sculpts with new dials would have been my preference - some of the old dials are garbage thanks to power creep but some of the old sculpts are fantastic - who doesn't want to see the sculpt of Batman from World's Finest released as a separate figure?
There is simply no good reason for Wizkids to make new sculpts for old dials.
But since you don't have a "new dials, old sculpts" option, I will not be voting. I am not going to say "Completely new or nothing at all" because that isn't the truth.
When has WizKids ever needed a reason to do something counter-intuitive?
The new dials & old sculpts option wasn't added because I already know what the answer would be. That, and it would make too much sense for them to go that route. ;)

I would vote yes, especially if they reused some figures from legacy that are so hard to come by such as KC Green Lantern or KC Flash.
