Who is the best Trio in music? From Power Rock Trios to acoustic to the Brothers Gibb, all these suggestions came from HCR members. Since we didn't have a full 64 bands to fill out the brackets, I gave 16 bands a first round bye. There will be 16 matches in round 1 and 16 in round two. Each band will get one song from youtube or other links and you make a choice based on the songs provided.

So vote for your faves, match by match and then round by round until we get to the final match and you can decide which band is the best of the trios and can be crowned Champion of the Realms.

If you feel a reason to hype a certain band and influence voters, by all means be our guest. No one knows every nuance of every act and maybe you can sway someone to your side.

Now to quote the Master of the Arena, the Ruler of the Rock Wars, the Lord of Lyrics, DTM: So what say you all. Which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will be left on the cutting room floor?

I really like the Dirty Three and want to thank whoever requested them to be in this competition because I've already downloaded a few songs to the pod.

I've always been a big fan of Paul Weller's whether it's been his solo career, Style Council or The Jam and as much as I'm liking the Dirty Three ny vote has to go to The Jam as being one of the best and most influential bands to come out of the Brit punk rock scene.

How can we have The Jam in round 2 when there were not in round1?

From what I understand, they and a couple of others got a "free pass".

The Jam get my vote.

Phant, you need to read the opening statement of the matchups. we had about 48 nominations so I took 16 bands and gave them first round byes. It was judgmental and some were automatic and then a couple I gave preference to certain bands like The Jam and Sleater-Kinney.

So, now you know and I'm sure you'll be voting for The Jam ;)

Oh sorry, I don't usually read the intro because I thought it was a cut and paste of DTMs intro, which I have read already.

I also did not notice it with the Genesis vs Police thread due to my distaste for Sting.

I understand, Genesis should probably have gotten the bye over the Jam but I have a distaste for Phil. You still need to vote though...

vote for The Jam Phant...The Jam

Two good bands here, both of which I could see voting for over some of the other competition. The Dirty Three are really different and memorable, though, so I'll see that they get at least one vote here.

The Dirty Three have an awesome name but they really aren't my thing, The Jam on the other hand are exactly my thing and one of the most underrated bands of the mod/punk scene.

The Jam

I have a love hate relationship with punk rock in general. I never even knew about the Jam until I got their Best of by accident in the mail from Columbia records years ago.

My vote here is for the Dirty Three. It's more in lines with what I like.

Dirty Three is interesting, but The Jam takes me back to a time and place that Dirty Three just can't compete with.

A Town Called Malice is actually on my list of potential songs for the 70's/80's RW.

Gotta throw a vote to the Jam for this one. Love Dirty Three, but Weller's one of the elder statesmen of punk. And if you ever wondered why the Jam never really took off in the States, it might help to know that their U.S. debut was as the support act for Blue Oyster Cult. Yeah. Thousands of old-school stoners who just want to hear "Don't Fear the Reaper" are greeted with a socially aware, post-mod punk act. You can guess how that went.

They seemed to have a history of mispairing acts with B.O.C. When I saw them Nick Gilder had to open for them. That might have been the worst day of Nick Gilder's life.

U2 opened up for 3-D at the Ritz in New York City. My buddy who was in 3-D said it was the worst day of his band's life.

In my experience, Peter Murphy has the worst record for opening acts (topping even Siouxsie, who I once saw traveling with a puppet show as an opener). On the Cascade tour, he picked a young Alaskan named Jewel. You can imagine how a club full of goths reacted to a future reality show judge whose most interesting trait was a knack for yodeling. This was in direct contrast to the Strange Kind of Love tour, where Murphy had an upstart named Trent Reznor on the bill. Damn. I love me some Bauhaus tunes, but Trent blew him off the stage. It was one of the most dominating performances by a support act that I've ever seen.

That was pretty much what happened to 3-D. My friend Mike told me it was the end of the band because they were blown away so badly by this new band from Ireland that not many people knew of yet.

Bahaus rocks!
