After seeing the final Blackest Night sculpts I can't believe that this is a final version. This has to be either a poor pic, or an early version. We blamed BOTB on WK/Topps, and I am going to hold out hope that that was the case, and that WK/NECA isn't just saving their amazing sculpts for collectors sets and letting six year olds with silly-putty do the rest.

I hate to sound like a downer, but, I will wait until I see the dial before I get excited.

I'm kind of hoping to see something like Zooms Flurry/HSS attack, that might work with a Duo type attack. And/or Crisis Kid Flash and Flash that ignores terrain for movement.

I was really hoping when I saw the link that there'd be an inkling of what the dial would look like, but the way I see it, it could not be anymore boring than his frst 2 entries into Heroclix. Sporting a wopping 3 powers (1 of which doesn't even make sense: Phasing/Teleport (don't get me started on why it doesn't make sense)) when he should have had a dozen leaves m hoping they'll do anything and everything they can with him.

He's freaking Nightcrawler. He's so underrated that it's not even funny. He can teleport things off of you, into you, blend into shadows, see in the dark, kill things with swords WITH HIS TAIL and all around be cooler than Freddie Jackson drinking a milkshake in a snow storm!!!!

Nightcrawler can only do that particular power stunt in the Age of Apocalypse.

Where everyone's powers were more advanced and hardcore, because they were fighting to survive for years under Pocy's rule. He hasn't been shown able to do that in the 616. If he had, he wouldn't have died by having an arm phased thru his chest.

Also, unless it's a Excalibur version of Nightcrawler... he really doesn't do the sword thing all that often. It should give him some sort of bonus of course. But yeah, the sword thing doesn't really work with the modern interpretation of the more pacifist Nightcrawler.

Also, phasing/teleport can work. He can port through walls... if he has some idea of what the other side of the wall looks like. Or some familiarity with the room that is on the other side of the wall. That's how he can port around inside the X-Mansion.

I know what my favorite character in comic books is capable of. There's nothing realistic about it.

If people can complain about how Batman hasn't been done right in Heroclix yet out of the 75 versions we have of him, I think I can complain about Nightcrawler not being done right also when we get a 3rd Nightcrawler.

To be fair, he pulled that trick on Bastion in that very issue and took the upper quarter of Bastion with him. It has been done, and he is capable of it, but he knows full well that it's a killing strike and as such typically refrains from using it.

There's no need to be so butt hurt about it.

I'm just making some notes regarding your various comments.

And I never claimed the powers were realistic, just that I am a realist.

And that Kurt's powers operate on the internal logic of comic books.

I never said Nightcrawler was lame or sucked. I just would prefer the piece actually represented the comic books. And not just one fanboy's interpretation of the character. Being a fanboy of the character clearly colors your opinion of what he's capable of.

Yes, he did. But Bastion's a special case.

And yeah, he ported away his arm... but then, it was stuck thru his chest.

For one, he's a robot... so it's not a killing move for him to perform it.

And may have pulled sections free before porting. That's a debatable point.

We have no clue if Kurt could do it to organic tissue in the 616.

Besides, it was written by Kyle/Yost. Who arn't exactly known for respecting continuity.

The pose busting through a wall gives me hopes of a teleport then attack type power. Also hoping for transporter status when not attacking.

So he's a common figure with that sculpt right? I'm assuming so. I just think it will be funny to see a brick wall smack into someone and then go and hide. Nightcrawler always has hypersonic. I'm glad we have a new one but I'm hoping the dial will suffice, other wise I might have to go back to the CT and FF versions depending on the team build.

Not liking the sculpt at all. Hopefully, the character is a playable piece worth his point cost.

Ask Ben Cheung, the winner for 2008 how he feels about this Nightcrawler figure?

This is from the GenCon article, and actually, I'd like to know too.

To me, that looks like a subpar sculpt (wearing a subpar costume). The only redeeming factor could be the dial.

Hmm, I've not been a fan of the huge tarrain they've been adding to these in recent years because it's kind of unrealistic for batman to carry a Gargoyle around a battle with him just so he has a place to stand, but I guess there are only so many dynamic poses. Also, some people only collect these as mini statues to display so I guess you win some, you lose some.

If they took this concept and used half of Shadowcat coming through it the front and her feet in the back, I would think it's awesome.

...with Nightcrawler, it just seem to have the same amount of weight as the other models.

My thoughts exactly! I HATE sculpts that include big pieces of terrain, it just seems dumb when actually fielded on a map. I prefer, character-only combat poses (with a SMALL amount of terrain if they must).

Also, I really wish he was in his classic outfit too. Oh well, repaint it I shall.

Hey,

All you Nightcrawler fans should be thankful he's been made a THIRD time. I know some of the pieces I'd like to have in the new environment (QUASAR, BROTHER'S GRIMM, SHROUD) haven't been made but once if it all.

So shut your pieholes!

I like the fig. Yes, it's a bit of Collateral Damage but they're not all going to be like that.

Ugh, why this pose? I HATE scenery on Clix mostly, and this wall is so needless. Both previous Nightcrawler were done much better...a balance between those two would have been better. How random to choose that costume too, from 8 years ago.

i have to say it to counter all those people out there hatin on scenery- i LOVE it!! seriously, it gives the figure its own dynamic, has a much harder-to-mess-up area to sculpt and paint, and really, looks cool even when not in play. id LOVE to get get them all and make a giant fortress of heroes and villains popping out on my desk. Gonna have to get Kurt. Again.

I like the sculpt as well.

Sculpts are an aesthetic and more often than not, there will be disagreements over what is, and is not, a "good sculpt". For my part, I know what I like and ultimately, that's all any one of us can say really.

That sculpt/paint job is absolutely hideous. I am starting to wonder if the quality control person can actually tell a good sculpt/paint job from a bad one; like maybe they have never seen or played with miniature figures (from any game system) before, and have no idea what kind of quality can be achieved.

On the other hand, it is perfect. For the first time in my life, I had the exact same reaction to Nightcrawler as the civilians in the comic book, “OH MY GOD! IT’S HORRIBLE! IT MUST BE SOME KIND OF MUTANT!” So it’s got that going for it.

I think it is a nice sculpt - I would give it a B+, with nicer paint job maybe A-. Shame when paint takes away from sculpt - the unpainted masters often look amazing and then the paint sort of brings them down to earth. but i think that if you compare this sculpt to say some static poses that have been done (character just standing still), it has alot going for it:
1. wall shows extra thought and effort, whether you like it or not
2. tail extending off also shows extra effort, more dynamic pose
3. he is coming out of the wall in an agreesive way - so again, not static or boring
4. i DO see details. he DOES have fingers (three) and there is good detail on costume

I am betting it will be fun dial to play too. Very glad it is in the set. Some of the other WOS previews are A+ - like red hulk and ironman/warmachine and the spidey bibtb. really looking forward to this set!

i think this sculpt would have looked a hella lot better if they left the dumb wall out of it.. with the wall it looks kinda flat B^( the other Nightcrawler sculpts look 100 times better than this one B^(

I'm not crazy about the sculpt, but I prefer it to the one that had multiple body parts BAMFing from a cloud. I still prefer the original CT Nightcrawler, swashbuckling sword and all. Guess I'll wait until I have it in hand to really come to a decision.

(I do wish that the sculpt quality was consistent - more on the Smokey Feet Cap end of the spectrum than on the end that has the Brainiac/Luthor Duo.)

Never did get the whole "I hate scenery" thing. I love it! Aside from making the sculpts look cool (in most cases) it gives you fodder for some cool mods!

Bule Beetle's wall definitely helped me give my John Constantine that street-wise edge he needed!

The proportions are right...

His tail is longer than his body is tall. I can see the need for a different costume, not every Nightcrawler should have a classic look, but this costume wasn't well designed in the comics that created it. Oh well.

I think the only other X-Characters we have in these costumes are Critical Mass Angel & Xorn.

Mutations&Monsters Emma Frost has her uniform from the same period (new/uncanny/x-treme).

I know at least 3 examples from the main universe:

-Magus (phalanx Magus, the one related with new mutants warlock, not Adam Magus/warlock).

-Rogue using nightcrawler's powers did it to the original Nimrod.

-The so comented recent case... snifff.

I actually like the figure, and the uniform is cool for me (it was the main uniform in the x-men next dimension fighting game where the uniforms were from that period, I spent lot of time years ago playing that game).

I think a simpler way to represent his powers would be giving him the :m-wing: symbol, plus a SP with hypersonic speed and stealth, and then a white power on atack to give him flurry (some white powers are just normal powers located on a different slot) or the option to attack more than once even using HSS. Then he would have:
-Carry: check (kurt is one of the main transporters of the x-men).
-Move and attack while ignoring terrain: check.
-He blends into shadows: check.

This would make him a really nice piece in the 80 points range with some sort of miss skrullvell atack style (hypersonic from stealth) and he could be a nice transporter for the x-men. The only bad point with this version is that he wouldn't be carried, but it could be fixed through traits or SPs. Real nightcrawler can carry and being carried (and gives him stealth pleas, if a guy with a bat costume has stealth, a guy who can blend into shadows deserves it!!).

The biggest question remains: How will the dial compare to the Clobbering Time unique or Fantastic Forces LE?

Arg!

I was so looking forward to a new Nightcrawler. He's always been my favorite X-Man (I can't say mutant, 'cause that'd be Captain Britain). Sadly, I feel like this sculpt adds insult to (serious) injury.

Actually, the sculpt itself is fine, it's just that darn costume that bothers me. The whole "Nightcrawler is a priest" era really got on my nerves. I'd much prefer (as would...oh I don't know...EVERY X-MEN FAN) his classic swashbucklin' getup.

Why Marvel feels they now need to slap an "X" on every X-Man's semi-matching costume, I'll never know. Give them back their own identities, I say! The stuff that makes them interesting is their individuality, not their conformity!

The only thing that redeems this costume is that he wore it in X-Assault. Anybody remember that game? It was sooooo great.

If I undestood it from the article, the dias is designed by a world champion that choose his favourite character to design it? If that's true it's possible that he will be very playable and have cool SPs.

Whatever happened to X-Assault?! Was that the online game where you had to try to pick your characters when a flashing light lit them up?

That's the game! I sure loved it.

Get this: despite the fact that I, and most of the players I'm sure, found out about the game on Marvel.com, after about two years worth of work, Marvel eventually threatened to sue Jim Lemoine if he continued to work on it / allow it to be downloaded. It's really sad when you see all of the cool stuff he had planned for it. It would have been so great. I wish somebody could take up the reigns where he left off, but I don't see it happening.

Incidentally, I was responsible for the inclusion of not one, but two villains: Omega Red and Dracula! So next time Dracula's healing each round and trouncing your team, remember me. ;)

I've still got a copy of the latest (and most likely last) version. It's version 095c. Feel free to PM me with your email address if you'd like me to send it to you (it's a flash file about 10MB big).

I still think this figure is ugly!!!!! I do not like the paint job, because it is to dark, and looks rushed. I do not like the sculpt, because it looks like Nightcrawler is glued to the wall by tar,and the tail is way to long.
They need to get rid of the wall, lighten his skin, and the smoke cloud, and shorten the tail. This would make this piece look a lot better.
I wonder how the winner truely feels about this figure.
