Who is the best Trio in music? From Power Rock Trios to acoustic to the Brothers Gibb, all these suggestions came from HCR members. Since we didn't have a full 64 bands to fill out the brackets, I gave 16 bands a first round bye. There will be 16 matches in round 1 and 16 in round two. Each band will get one song from youtube or other links and you make a choice based on the songs provided.

So vote for your faves, match by match and then round by round until we get to the final match and you can decide which band is the best of the trios and can be crowned Champion of the Realms.

If you feel a reason to hype a certain band and influence voters, by all means be our guest. No one knows every nuance of every act and maybe you can sway someone to your side.

Now to quote the Master of the Arena, the Ruler of the Rock Wars, the Lord of Lyrics, DTM: So what say you all. Which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will be left on the cutting room floor?

That's gonna cost you two months of rep! Mentioning the Jonas Brothers in any sentence with real rock bands is not allowed.

Nirvana

On listening to Blue Cheer you hear everything from Metal and Psychedelic to the early stages of what would later be called grunge. I find it interesting that Blue Cheer wound up against Nirvana. It's almost like listening to to the 30 year progression of the genre when you pit the two together. Nirvana did more though to change fashion, music and thought, plus their catalog is deeper.

Cobain died when I was in middle school. Prime age for loving Nirvana. I did actually like them at one point. But year after year comparing whatever greatness could have been. I think my Nirvana tank got overflowed when they were comparing Cobain to Hendrix with not only the whole death thing but with musical talent. Give me any other band that came out similarly in time to Nirvana; STP, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden... and Nirvana will always lose. I know we are talking about trios and such but my opinion remains valid.

For you math people out there.
Hatred towards Nirvana > Hatred towards The Police

I have never been one to dislike a band just because they were cool, I don't care what other people think about Nirvana or how highly they are rated by the critics. In fact I have always thought that the lamest thing a music fan can do is dismiss anything because of how other people feel about it.

The fact is they put out some very good music. Nevermind is an amazing album, there is no doubt about that. Kurt wrote some very strong lyrics and created songs with excellent melodies, Dave Grohl is an outstanding drummer and the band as a whole created something that, while it has been copied a lot since, was a breath of fresh air at the time. Even if your uncool cousin bought a t-shirt and radio says it's good and every magazine compares them to Led Zeppelin, none of that changes the fact that they are a good band and Smells Like Teen spirit is a great song.
