My friends and I played a 1500 point Marvel heroes vs. DC Villains battle this weekend, and while the battle was entertaining (mostly thank to great rolling by the villains and mediocre rolling by Marvel) I was quickly reminded at the the disparaging attack/defense values between the two sets. Sure, DC has a lot of Outwit to bring to bear and some Perplex to help out, but in general we (the DC side) were seriously outranged and horribly outgunned -- with 8 and 9 attack powers flailing against 17 and 18 defenses while the Marvel big guns needed 2's, 3's and 4's to hit even the strongest DC villains -- throw in some cheap points cost probability control on the Marvel side to force impervious re-rolls and you have a lot of troublesome match-ups.
Obviously the DC set itself is fairly balanced with both heroes and villains on average having both lower attack values and defense values (so as to not make Impervious too gross) -- but seeing as though the sets are supposed to be interchangeable in casual play (I want to play DC vs. Marvel -- it's a great concept brought to life through Heroclix) I'm wondering if this isn't potentially a very limiting situation for fair gameplay.
Any thoughts from other people?
