View Full Version : leapclimb and range
yesterday during a battle a dispute arose from the use of a grounded dr octopus attacking a figure on the rooftop six squares away. can a judge please clarify if this is a legal use of a leap climbing figure? thanks
No, this is not.
Leap/Climb says that the character may make a Close Combat attack against another character, regardless of elevation.

no dr ock cant attack because there isnt any line of sight. For CC he is neither adjacent anyway.

Well, without all the facts it's hard to say. V Doc Ock does have a ranged attack of 6 squares, so if the target was on the edge of the roof, Doc would have clear LOS to shoot him provided no other figures were between them. However Leap/Climb would not affect his ranged attack, only the ability to close-combat someone in the next square away but on the roof. So if the player was moving 6 squares and then attacking this is illegal because Doc doesn't possess the Charge power, which would replace L/C anyway.
I assumed that when he said "6 squares away" that the target figure was back off from the edge of the building. I made my ruling based off of that assumption.
If I'm wrong about that asumption, now would be a good time to let me know :)

That day a couple of pals and I were playing on my brand new outdoor expansion set. We chose the building (school ?) for this particular battle. The V Doc ock was on the small pathway behind this building.
My V Cyclops was six squares from the edge deep on the rooftop. ( DO_-_-_-_-_-Cyke) oh and by the way Cyclops’s clicks were just enough to take perplexed damage for four clicks. I taxied him back to a medic who easily healed him.
I lost out on using him for most of the game If only I would have memorized the leap/climb rules.
I apologize for the delay on the response my internet kept going down due to the torrential winds.

Why did you lose out on using him, though? Doc Ock's Leap/Climb doesn't allow him any special rules for ranged attacks---only close combat ones.
