If my opponent is on the ground and makes a barrier with Pyro around him, can I shoot over the barrier if I am elevated? I thought so because a barrier is said not to be elevated, but the kid made such a fuss (Sue Storm was the prize) that he asked the judge about five turns afterwards AND after the game and the judge ruled that the shot wasn't legal.

you can shoot over it because like it says its not elevated

no, barrier counts as blocking terrian from anywhere, as i recall, so if your LoF draws thru it, it's considered blocked.

but the figure itself is elevated and the barrier is not

The Barrier isn't elevated, but it is Blocking. Elevated figures can see over hindering terrain, not blocking terrain.

From the FAQ-

No attacks either close or ranged can be made through a Barrier

When firing from elevated terrain to non-elevated terrain, LOF can ignore intervening figure bases and hindering terrain. Blocking terrain, including Barrier, is treated normally and so will block the elevated figure's LOF.

And I thought this was a question about a wall of Forrest Gump....

wait for groans.....

Anyway, Barrier is technically considered to be grounded (not elevated) because it's on the ground but it is the height of elevated terrain, that's why it completely closes off interior map spaces and can't be L/C or flown over. It reaches the ceiling.

It's not going through, but over. I guess weird, because it's the only blocking terrain not elevated characters can fly over.

Guess my question wasn't so simple....

It is fairly straightforward an answer, though, because there's no exception that would allow an elevated figure to shoot over the Barrier. The rules for elevated attacks say that the attack may ignore intervening hindering terrain or figures. There is no exception for blocking terrain and so a figure cannot shoot over a Barrier from elevated terrain to the ground.

On an outside map do the walls of the building count as blocking terain because it is a thick black line, meaning that 2 flying characters on different sides of the the wall cant hit each other.

Correct?

I don't think the barrier is at the height of elavated. Not that it really matters for this issue. This sentence is in the FAQ.
FAQ
This terrain is not elevated and can be fl own over

I've known that you can't shot over barrier from elavated terrain by reading posts, but they should of added some extra verbage to the FAQ about this. Because I still see this question pop up ever so often.

I know this has been posted before because I asked that question before...

As it is, here's the ruling I understand:
1. Elevated Bullseye |Grounded Barrier| Grounded Thug

Sorry but Barrier is blocking terrain so no LoF here

2. Elevated Bullseye |Grounded Barrier| Elevated Thug

Since the barrier isn't elevated, LoF can be established

3. Elevated Bullseye|Elevated Barrier| Elevated Thug

Duh.... obviously, no LoF here.

Did I get this right Mr. HeroComplex? :)

Well What Happens If You Have Quasar Who Is Soaring and Firelord Who Is Soaring. If Quasar Puts Up A Barrier It Should Block Firelords Shot.

You've got those right, Teletran. MisterId:Ranged attacks between two soaring characters are not affected by grounded blocking terrain. : Nov 4, 2002
