Outwit allows you to counter a power.

So, unless the character has some kind of Outwit-proof game effect (Fortitude, Power Cosmic, etc), then there is nothing to prevent you from countering Outwit (which is a power).

thanks for answering i know people would say it is a foolish move to outwit outwit but say somebody only does 2 damage, nick fury's defense allows him to reduce damage by 2 and then move to the opposite side of the map than he started on

Yes, it was a stupid question. But that's okay! I ask them all the time.
Players at my venue end up outwitting outwit all the time so that their characters can gain back a power they've lost. It's quite a strategy game with outwits flying back and forth all over the map.

Countering Outwit is rarely foolish. Especially if you have a power that is critical to your strategy and it must be protected.

I'd say that Outwitting Outwit is pretty much the best use for Outwit.

Favorite things to Outwit:

Outwit
Impervious
Super Senses
Probability Control
Stealth
Hypersonic Speed

Oh and SI Nick Fury is becoming one of my favorite Outwit pieces(though he still aint as cool as Lobster Johnson.)

Really? Two people think super senses is one of the best to outwit? I think super senses is one of the worst things to outwit. A lot of times I'd rather chance it. Nothing is guaranteed with it. Impervious offers guaranteed damage reduction with the potential to nullify all the damage. Probability control nixes a power that can be used offensively and defensively. Hypersonic... well, it's hypersonic. But super senses? Especially since the figures that have super senses generally aren't as big a threat that I'm going to worry about their retaliation should they get that 5 or 6 as much as if a figure with impervious does.

1. Hypersonic
2. Outwit
3. Impervious
4. Probability Control
5. Mastermind / Willpower (tie)

This goes back a ways, but my favorite thing to outwit was Soaring. Folks who used the strategy of "get away from the opponent by soaring" never seemed to see it coming.

Most special time - I played in a Supernova marquee and had a rookie Shi'ar with heavy object move to be adjacent to a pushed soaring Vet Silver Surfer (power cosmic) who was on a HSS click. My opponent reminds me that Surfer's soaring and clear. I move Ant-Man into position and outwit the soaring. He reminds me of Power Cosmic and I show him that PC only protects his powers, not his ability to soar (this was before I was RA, I had to show them in the E&C or FAQ document). Down came Surfer, Smash went the Shi'ar, rolling a crit hit, putting Surfer on a much more manageable second-to-last click of life.

It very situational. I've been in many matches where at a given time outwitting super senses was the best strategy. Like you're close to the end of the game and you need more victory points. Keep your opponent from evading the damage.

Ah, Lobster Johnson, wildcarding Superman Ally to outwit stealth... The look on a guy's face when he starts to yell, "You can't outwit stealth!" is priceless. : - )

NBPerp wins, though. That's truly an epic moment of rules mastery.

It's funny because I know that if you whipped out your Johnson while playing me, I'd be doing everything I can to stay hidden.

I used to Outwit Impervious and other defensive powers, but have learned to save my Outwit for other powers that could hurt me. And I only Outwit Defensive powers if I have to.(ie doing two damage to an Impervious figure)

My top 5....

1. Outwit
2. Hypersonic Speed
3. Probability Control
4. Ranged Combat Expert
5. Indomitable

You can counter combat abilities, yes. And Flight is a combat ability.

Some abilities do specify that they can't be countered (Giant Size and Colossal Size, for example), but they are the exception to the rule.

Please keep in mind that symbols are not countered. If a character has the :m-wing: symbol, it has both the Flight and Carry abilities. You could counter Flight, or you could counter Carry, but there is no way to counter both with only a single use of Outwit.

See the new PAC for a handy list of all the combat abilities in one easy to check place.
