Okay, I'm sure this has been asked frequently since the Player's Guide was updated. But me and a couple other players are confused. Can you use the feat card to act as the ATA in current, Modern Age games?

ex: I use the Thunderbolts feat card as physical representation, but use the updated, legal wording and point costs.

I understand using them as Feat Cards are banned, but using them as ATA cards is also forbidden? Cause not all the ATA cards are available for print and play. Even more so, some of us don't have access to a printer to be able to utilize the ATA cards that have been updated and given their own category.

Lastly, does that mean I can't use the Amazon, Checkmate, or JLI cards I just won at our venue's B&tB tournaments cause they're still considered feat cards? If so, what a waste.

You have a point, it does mention that the carded Alternate Team Abilities are banned in the player's guide. Funny though for the ATAs from BaTB, they have exactly the same text. It doesn't make sense that we can't use them. (I got the Amazon ATA)

Maybe it was meant for the older ATAs. Those have new point cost to them afterall.

they do not all have exactly the same text and ATA are no longer feats so the ban covers them as well I believe. once we get PnP versions can always glue to your old ones to have a more substantial copy.

No, they don't. All of the old ATAs have a clause overwriting existing TAs, meaning if you want to use Amazon ATA on AA Wonder Woman, you lose her natural JLA TA. The new ATA allows her to keep her own TA and costs less too.

I kinda wish they'd allowed the old ATA feats to stay as feats (subject to the 10% cap and uncopyable by wild cards) as written. But something really had to be done about Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, and the current solution is the simplest one.

this is a great question OP i was just thinking this reading another thread. we have a tourney today, it's 500 points 2 player matchup. each team of 2 gets 225 points each to make a team. Yes i know the math is off 225+225 = 450, don't ask me why it's this way, just is. lol
anyways, i was thinking of T-Bolting Venom to Mystics or some other Marvel TA (Mystics isn't on the Marvel PAC, but there are Marvel figs with the logo on the base so...) anyways, i don't have updated ATAs, just the originals. so yea, can i just present the card and state that it is just a physical representation of the new T Bolts ATA?

There is no official card. Print the relevant part of the Player's Guide, with the new version of Thunderbolts in it. That should be enough. (But, of course, it's up to your judge.)

I want to clarify this...

Are all the old ATA's no longer usable? For modern and golden age?

I was thinking this was true. We will have to use all the new ATA's. Is this correct?

In Modern Age play, only the new ATAs (gray header) can be used.

In Golden Age, I don't see why the feat ATAs can't be used, as none of the other feats or ATAs are retired.

It's your call, depending on the format. Point cost is negligible, imho. :)

The only options the new T-Bolts misses out on is Stealth (Batman Ally/Kabuki), healing via Suicide Squad, KC/Hypertime, and Indy TAs. Mystics and Ultimates are still viable choices to counter any GA T-Bolts choice, and you get to use the ATA in addition to the Avengers free-move TA (if the character has the team symbol).

Thor & Loki should always stick to the GA T-Bolts feat/ATA for maximum effectiveness.

Because they aren't just retired, they are banned. Effectively, the old feat-ATAs do not exist any more.

From the Player's Guide:

The following feat cards are banned as they have been replaced by an Alternate Team Ability card: Alpha Flight, Amazon, Checkmate, Fantastic Four, Green Lantern, Guardians of the Galaxy, Justice League International, League of Assassins, Legionnaires, Monster Society of Evil, Runaways, The Society, Squadron Supreme, and Thunderbolts

So that means I have to print each and every one from the updated player's guide in order to be able to use the Alternate Team Abilities?

That makes the Amazon, JLI, LoA, and Checkmate cards I won at my venue completely worthless now.

Considering that anybody could print those cards anyway, I think they're worth about the same as they were before.

In my opinion you should be able to use the old card as the physical representation, as long as you use the new text.
