The Heroix web site (http://www.heroix.info) now offers a Flash-based online gameboard (http://www.heroix.info/onlinegameboard.html). This should be especially useful for players like me whose browsers have trouble with Creation Matrix's DHTML/JavaScript. The Flash gameboard is currently 272K and takes about 7 seconds to load over my DSL line. Please post reactions here and/or send bug reports via e-mail (mailto:heroix@heroix.info).

Dude! This is awesome! I can't wait to try this out! You rock!
Hey... looks great. I was working on something like this, but I will give it up now, because yours far outshines mine. I like it alot better than CM's map because of all the bugs I've encountered on it. I wish that there was some kind of fig database, but I bet you do too. :)
Great work!

Really very nice. Much better than the other maps.

Indeed! Implementing a figure database will, however, be a very large amount of work and I wanted to go ahead and offer the gameboard now (having worked on it all weekend). I'll consider advanced features as time goes by. Thanks for the feedback!

Can you give me more details? It's showing up fine on my Mac at work. Are you getting anything at all? Slow loads? A blank screen? Is it possible there's a proxy/firewall issue? Have you verified that your Flash Player is version 6? Any details will help.

Outstanding work, Heroix.
The community tips its hat to you.
Excellent work. Even on dial up, it's not bad at all. My old macs (system 8.6 and 9.1, respectively) thank you!
I like the way it works. Only two small things.
1. Make it so you can have more then 3 heavy objects and 3 light objects. If both players choose all of one type, you can't do it.
2. Is there anyway that you can make it so that you can add in other maps from other URLs? Specificly, I am thinking about the maps on the Cabal City webpage.
Great job, though.

I'm planning to up the count to 6 heavy and 6 light, but I wanted to go ahead and offer it to the community right away. I mean, I've been working on it for something like three days and was getting impatient to see it used. :)

Is the Cabal City webpage back up? Part of the reason I created mine in the first place was because Cabal City seemed to be shut down for a time. Anyway, as stated in on my Online Play Info (http://www.heroix.info/onlineplay.html) page, I'll be glad to receive submissions of custom maps to be added to the system. I don't think I can just take Talon MC's and Mazuera's custom maps from Cabal City and use them without permission, though. And since my maps are self-contained inside the Flash file, I can't (or at least don't know how) to import any old custom map using a URL like Creation Matrix can do with DHTML. But, as I say, I'll be glad to look at any map anybody sends me and consider adding it to my Flash movie. As I get more experience with this I'll update the Submissions section of the Online Play Info page with details about submitting custom maps.

Hey, that is great to hear! Thanks! I have actually discovered that if I import my maps into Flash as vectors (I drew them in Freehand MX) instead of JPEGs, I can shrink the file size to about 80K instead of the 273K it currently sits at, so that should make it even better for load times! I have the 80K file prepared, and should be uploading it sometime tonight as I watch the last hour and a half of season 1 of "24" on DVD, but right now I am still at work and can't successfully upload via FTP through our proxy server. I would guess that within about two hours the slim, trim vector version will be up.
You guys may be doing this, but just in case it hadn't occurred to you...
You can go to Creation Matrix and load up the Clix Figure Manager Beta, then leave the site, but keep the window with the Fig Manager open...it'll hold and manage your teams in a separate window while you play on your own map. Works very nice, and is pretty accurate as far as powers and stats go. Whenever CM finds any mistakes in it, they get fixed as soon as people let him know. I use it this way to play on Cabal City, and will when I try out your site, Heroix...
Excellent work, btw. The place looks great. :)
heylady,
I know of CM and the Fig Database he's got there... but I find that everytime I use it the "You" and "Opponent" links just disappear. Often, even the little number graphics representing the figs just vanish. That's why I would love it if someone made a DB that worked. And since Heroix did such an excellent job with this Gameboard, I thought I'd suggest that he make the DB.
The Heroix Online Gameboard (http://www.heroix.info/onlinegameboard.html) has been updated! The new features are:
(1) The gameboard now features 6 heavy object tokens and 6 light object tokens, so each player may select up to 3 tokens in either weight class and still have enough tokens to go around.
(2) A new custom map featuring a wreck on an interstate overpass. The map is pretty straightforward, but note that the overpass is supposed to be elevated, the bright green grass squares are like the top steps of stairs, and any square that has any black-lined drawings in it should be treated as hindering terrain -- even if it's just a small part of the tanker trailer overlapping a square.
Hey Spikor, and anybody else who is curious ... I am hard at work on a figure database. The basic shell is in place, and I know how to structure my arrays so that you can actually "click" up and down a dial instead of seeing the whole dial at once. Now the main two things left are (1) to arrange all that data, convert the stat numbers to my code numbers that make the silly thing work, and get it into a big array. I'm not sure whether to try to use some sort of import (e.g., from an XML file) or just build the whole array right in the ActionScript). And (2) to learn enough about components so that I can build the character selection routine. And then it'll be ready to go!
BTW, right now the .swf file is only 8K, though it only accommodates two figures right now (experienced SHIELD Medic and Berserker Wolverine).
I am excited about this. I think you will find the interface to be really slick. Keep watching this space for more details ...
Most of the bugs are worked out of my new online figure manager, I think. You can preview it by going to my Online Play Info (http://www.heroix.info/onlineplay.html) page. Scroll down to the paragraph that describes the figure manager and click on the appropriate link. I use JavaScript to size the window, so I can't line directly from here.
Please check out the preview and let me know what you think!
The Online Clicker is now ready for prime time! It features a full database -- including all Xplosion spoilers I've seen (continual updates coming) -- and a graphical "dial" interface. It's slick, if I do say so myself. Drop by my Online Play info page (http://www.heroix.info/onlineplay.html) and click on the Online Clicker button or text link. Please note that the Clicker will open in a pop-up window. Enjoy, and please report any bugs here or by e-mail to heroix@heroix.info!

Very very well done. The only way this could be better is if it could be integrated into "City of Heroes". I want to build a super hero who flies around on a clickable circular surfboard :)
My Online Play venue (http://www.heroix.info/onlineplay.html) now features an Online Figure Clicker that lets you track figures in your online games using an online database. The database includes many Xplosion figures whose stats have been posted in this forum recently! Check it out ... if you like online play, you'll love this tool!
I just checked out your online clix manager.
All I can say, is wow. Very nice indeed. The only thing I would suggest is that you put the figs in alphbetical order insetad of by figure number. I don't many people have the figure number memorized.
Also, do you plan on doing the big figs?

Anyone want to play?
One thing, I picked an Exp and Vet Doc Strange and some clicks have attack 0 and others attack 20. You might know already.
I still want to play now :)

Nice work.
My suggestion: put a white border around the squares on the dial; this will help to distinguish between black powers and the numbers on the dial proper.

First off, awesome website. Some minor bugs I've noticed with the online clicker:
1) When you choose multiples of the same fig...figure 4, 5 and 6, for example, are all veteran Hand Ninjas...when you click one figure you click them all. In other words, if I click figure 4 two clicks of damage, figures five and six will then register the same two clicks of damage if they are duplicate figures.
2) There is some incorrect data. I've noticed it on Experienced Wolverine, who, IIRC starts with a 19(!) attack value. Not a big deal but when you get a chance you might want to double-check everything.
My last suggestion is to provide a chatroom on your site where people can linger looking for opponents.
I, too, like the overpass freeway map. Very creative.

Thanks Manchine....Is the online gaming at Creation Matrix much worse than heroix? Ive never used either.

1) Its ability to play HC online.
2) Its organization of Play.
3) Its Polls
4) Some of the contests.
5) Beetle being over there  :p ;) :)
6) No flaming over there yet.
Its Forums content are its only downfall.

I think downfall is a little harsh, Manchine. The content at CM is just different than HCR. Creation Matrix isn't about all Heroclix, all the time. If all you want is exhaustive Heroclix discussion, then this is definitely the place to be. If you want to talk about the 80's, music, comics, movies, games, toys and just goof off with a bunch of folks that share a lot the same interests that you have as well as talking about Heroclix, then come over to Creation Matrix and have a peek around.:)
And you're right. There's no flaming. ;)

The biggest problem I have with it is just about every post I see cuts down HCRealms. I have posted a few times over there. With very few responses. I just dont like being labeled something thats not true. I dont enjoy The Marvel ZOmbe comments when its not true. I dont enjoy saying the place where I post is a Huckleberry Junction. When it comes to Hero Klix this place is better then WizKids site. Yet CM portrays it in a bad light. Has HCRealms ever been negitive torwards CM. Nope.
If you havent noticed flaming has gone down tremedously here. I havent seen any problems since the Reorganization. SO I would say the Mods are doing a great job here.

04/14/2003, 22:30
nope....this be the last word.....:p
hey guys...thanks for the good word....now my comments on the issue.
First of all i'd like to thank CM because i've felt more comfortable and able to add to the community over there.
Ok now here goes...
Yes, i have had problems with some stuff here in the past. Not with me personally but the way others have been treated. It is the realms right to treat them that way because it is their site. Personally though i had more of a problem with the users on the Realms...mainly a select few here. Not the majority of the users. It seems that the same negativity gets brought up again and again. It shames me that CM is being portrayed as anti-Realms.
To me they are two different sites that exist for two very different purposes. CM is more of a broad place to talk about just about anything you wish to including heroclix. CM also has a place to play online heroclix and is branching out into other forms of gaming with Creation Matrix Games. The realms is primarily a heroclix site and it exceeds at that. If you want to find something out about heroclix....this is where you head to. I still regularly use the myrealms to track my collection and make teams. Others that may have bashed the realms in the past even use it. Both sites have a purpose.
I am more comfortable at CM because my friends are there and truthfully I'm more of a comic fan than a heroclix fan. (Those who know me already know that...oh yeah and visit the comic threads over at CM sometime....i run them :)...i should have three new reviews up on Monday.)
Finally I urge everyone to just let this die and let bygones be bygones. No more bashing of either site. I stopped posting regularly here do to this kind of negativity. I don't want it happening again. Can't we all just get along?
Anyway, Peace.
Ok, Realms Creation matrix, whatever the real question we all want to know is "what happened to Heroix?" That was the greatest online interface ever.
yeah i'm kinda dissapointed i didn't get to see it.
yeah i'm kinda dissapointed i didn't get to see it.

Any chance of him giving the .swf files to someone to update/modify or at least play with? I'm on an old mac, and java kills me. The flash files were perfect for me.
actually you would need the .fla files to modify it not the .swf

Actually I thought the poll. With only 79 votes, that is low, 24 and 27 like marvel better 28 like DC. That still put more in Marvel it just split it. :p
oops....i hadn't checked it recently...thats what i get for opening my big mouth...Thanks for setting me straight. I actually like both. I just like comics in general. I just didnt like most of the Bad guys in HT. XP barely has enough for me. Green Goblin and Scorpion, (even though he is so wrong) almost put it over the edge by themselves.
My top 5 characters from the start have yet to be Made. ALl these I have made up in CHaracter Creation
1) Beetle (I even made him up in CHaracter Creation you'd be proad Beetle)
