View Full Version : And people wonder why gamers have such a stigma...

So I'm running a tourney on saturday. unfortunately it takes place during the same weekend as a Warhammer 40 k tourney, AND the pre-release of the new Lord of the Rings card game expansion. My clix group gets to game on a lone small table by the Star Trek figures away from the rest of the gaming because tehre's about 40 people in the room, but we're thankful just to game with each other.

First thing that happens as we set up is some skinny teen brushes by us without so much as a "scuze me", "move!" or a single word. We just laugh it off since most teens I've encountered are in desperate need of a manner enema.

Now I had injured my already bum knee, and was wearing a black knee brace over a pair of khaki pants, so it' snot like it's hard to see. There's a luul in the gaming next to us, so I go steal a chair so i can sit down, standing is hella painful. A minute later the room fills up again. Another skinny teen comes over and looks at me.

"Is anyone using this chair" he asks.

"Uh yeah...me."

"well can i take it."

"No," I pat my knee brace," I'm using it."

He shouts an expletive and storms off.

Now about 5 years ago, the fight resulting from that exchange would have gotten me banned from the venue. I was more stunned that this kid hadn't been beaten by his parents enough to learn some manners.

Now of course, I'm not judging ALL gamer geeks by the actions of two mongolian butt grabbers. Just pointing out to everyone to be considerate of your fellow gamer. We're a rare and eclectic group to begin with, and we should stick up for one another. And learn some freakin' manners for crying out loud.

Generally I've come to find gamers as fairly considerate. The only gamers I ever have a problem with is my friends. And that's usually intentional on our part.

When it comes time to ante up for a Dew and Pizza run most of us are always willing to help.

Bummer that ya had to run into those 2 @#$% though.

May your future bring happy and non-irritating gameing excitement.

I'm willing to bet the two rude morons were from out of the city anyway :)

Well, I just found out last night that there is some mathematical cheating going on where I play in tourneys at (i.e. a player getting an impossible amount of points) because the judges and players are all good buddies so they help each other out and then share all the L.E.'s, so no more playing in tourneys for me for a while at least. All the players there were jerks anyway, so I'm not gonna miss it in the least.

Report it to WK. That should help.

The Rabbidgerbal primarily games at a store that actually runs with the gamer geek thing and has lots of fun with it, sort of a club where everyone admits to playing with little plastic toys or getting all jacked up about the new Daredevil movie (or in a tissy because in issue whatever it's obvious that kingpin is way more of a match than for Daredevil than that...)

...and that's ok! We admit to being geeks, and we like it.

The Big Bad Gerbil Daddy feels a bad experience isn't limited to any certian culture, the gamers don't hoard the inconsiderates or rudes. Perhaps newer generations have lost some of the general civilities of the past in general over all? Getting people to smile or say hello to each other on the sidewalks in some places is getting more rare.

alot of it is about finding "the right" store and group to game with. Unfortunatly for the Frothing One is involves a 100 mile round trip but that just makes him appreciate it even more.

The Rabbidgerbal can think of a local shop (closer) that is just plain rude to people who come in, just the general glaring at you or unwilling to talk about issue whatever it is your looking for beyond an ubrupt reply about not having it.

It's too bad all people can't just be nicer to each other. Just civil if they aren't honor bound to being polite. It would seem like we'd all benefit by it in the end wouldn't we? :)

Hey... the Rabbidgerbal wishes you a good day
