View Full Version : Paint Coming Off Clix...Has This Happened to Anyone Else???

The other day I was sitting around in my room perusing this site.
A discussion on Darkseid came up, so I picked up my Darkseid. He was sticky for whatever reason. When I put him down I looked at my hand...
I HAD BLUE ON MY FINGERS! Not enough came off to make Darkseid's back look like garbage but now I am afraid to pick him up by anything other than the base.
sooo experts, why did this happen, how did it happen? Will I be able to pick up Darkseid again? I have NEVER had this happen with ANY other figure, HELP!
News to me. The only time I've seen paint come off HC figures was on some of them where the part of the figure in question tends to "flex" a lot... the Wasp's ankles, in particular, as well as various parts of Blade's leg.
This can sometimes result in paint flaking off the part doing all the flexing.
Darkseid, I should think, wouldn't flex at ALL.

Even under heated conditions(A friend left his in his car during the summer..) They only tend to warp, the paint holds.
My only thought on it was that you either might have spilled some liquid? Or had something on your fingers before you touched him which might have loosened the paint. (Paint just doesn't revert to liquid state for no reason, heh.)
But if that's not the case.. Don't know what to tell you..

acidic sweat glands in your fingers are the obvious culprit... probably a secondary mutation.
Some sort of solvent would do the trick, especially an aromatic solvent.
Just have to find what would do that to the type of paint used for HC figs.
Aerosol cleaners, or even sprays like windex, could have that short term effect.
If he was sitting near a kitchen table, various organic residue from foods could cause an ezymatic breakdown, and leave the sticky texture. Honey perhaps? Jelly? Both contain enzymes.
Did you ever spill soda (cola particularly) on or near it, or touch the fig with soda on your hands. Sodas contain carbonic acid, and colas have phosphoric acid which could have adhered to the fig, and caused a chemical breakdown over time.
Describe the how and I'll give you a reason for the why.
Doc.

Now that you mention it, every Veteran Sabretooth I'v ever had has had severe flaking on the base paint (Like, the red ring & whatnot). I realise how stupid it sounds, but it's true.
I don't even need to scratch them hard or anything, if I run my fingertip along them, the paint flakes. I wondered if maybe there was just a bad run of Vet Sabretooth bases or something at the factory that maybe like, got solvent on them or something, or weren't sealed right. I thought about mailing Wizkids, but I'm lazy.
Has this happened to anyone else?

My V. Doom has it's ring rubbed raw in the back, along with the MoD icon. But that's more from me staring at it in awe and appreciation ;)
