I feel like I should get initiated with some tribal war paint or something...
My friend (Payer 2) pulled his first Firelord last night (EXP) and upon looking at his dial, for some reason thought he was an exceptional value.;)
After getting smacked by 2 FLs in a tourney a couple of weeks ago, I was looking forward to some revenge.
We played a 3-way 200 pt game. I had U Spiderman (CT), U Wasp, R Blade and an E Henchman.
The game started with FL getting taxied by R Booster and my U Spidey getting fried for 5 damage putting him on an Outwit click. I proceeded to retreat him to wait for a better chance to engage. I did mess up putting Spidey in harms way, but I was hoping the high defense would draw FL in the open while still protecting Spidey. It did draw him out, but I paid for it.
Player 3 had a V Bullseye, R Sabretooth, R Morrow and not much else worth playing. He took two shots at FL and missed them both, taking two clicks in the process knocking his AV down to 9.
After some dancing, FL decided to go look at Player 3s side of the board (FL Player 2 was in the middle of us). He screwed around with Sabretooth and killed some minor pieces while I was able to get Blade into some hindering terrain in the middle of the board and move my Henchman up, as well as put Spidey back in play.
Now here was the fun part. When he took FL to the other side of the board, he left Booster in the middle. Later on, he used Jean Grey to TK FL back over to the Booser taxi. I occupied FL with the Henchman who eventually got fried, but not before Player 3's Bullseye FINALLY hit the 18 defense with a roll of 9. Player 3 was not rolling well all night, but finally hit for 3. On my turn, I was able to do a double incapacitate with U Wasp, pushing FL and giving Booster a token. For my second action, I moved Blade out of hindering into BtB contact with Booster AND FL.
On Player 2 next turn, FL was pushed, he tried to breakaway with Booster and missed (obviously that was a key miss). On my next turn, I B/C/F FL for 5 damage, killing him. I was so happy I almost cried.
Sorry if the explanation is confusing, but the key was not being afraid to use a generic to get into base contact with FL. Incapacitate was also key. Being able to get a BCF fig into base contact with a figure you just forced to push via Incapacitate is a nice combo.
I know this isnt ground breaking or anything, but I just wanted to share. I love how FLs defense goes from an 18 to a 13 in just 2 clicks.
