I've created some simple rules to turn HeroClix into a campaign, I'd greatly appreciate some input...
The general concept is to have an ongoing campaign using HeroClix. As players progress, they will be able to add new members to their team and increase the skills of existing team members. Playing preset organizations (i.e. Avengers, Injustice League, etc.) is encouraged, but not mandatory. Hopefully, some continuity between battles will emerge, since teams will be more stable. If someone does not have the required figure, I am willing to let the player use mine for the battle. Lastly, the main objective is to have fun playing HeroClix.
Organizations/Teams:
- Players may either choose to play a previously unclaimed organization team, an independent hero team, or an independent villain team.
- Organizations are defined as figures with the same Team Ability, excluding: Batman Ally, Spider-Man, Superman Ally, and Superman Enemy.
- Government will be a hero organization which includes Police and S.H.I.E.L.D. figures. Checkmate and Sentinel figures may be purchased as if they were part of that organization.
- Teams will consist of either heroes or villains, but not both.
- Designated neutrals may be part of any team.
Figures:
- Only one version of a figure, including alternate designs and/or names, is allowed in the game at a time. (i.e. Hulk/Mr. Fixit).
- Unnamed figures may be purchased in any number, at any level.
- Promo and LE figures are legal for play, and are part of the standard process of upgrading.
- All purchased figures must be used in each combat.
- Figures may only be upgraded after they have been used in a combat.
Gaining Points:
- Players get 100 starting points to purchase figures for their team.
- After a 2-player combat, the winner gets 1/5 of the point value of their opponent's score, minus 1/10 of their score, to add to their team total. (minimum 5, maximum 100 per battle)
- After a combat, the defeated player gets 1/5 of their opponent's score, minus 1/10 of their score, to add to their team total. (minimum 5, maximum 100 per battle)
- After a multi-player combat, the winner gets 1/5 of the average score of the other players, minus 1/10 of their score, to add to their team total. (minimum 10, maximum 100 per battle)
- After a multi-player combat, each defeated player gets 1/5 of the winner's score, minus 1/10 of their score, to add to their team total. (minimum 10, maximum 100 per battle)
- After a combat, each player gets double any scenario points they earned, to add to their team total.
- Players may sell a figure for 5 fewer points than player's normal cost for that figure.
*** This method is used to equalize teams through play. Although it is obvious that a player could throw a game to boost their team total, that would be considered bad form and less fun. ***
Spending Points:
- Minions without team symbols may always be purchased for the cost listed on the figure.
- Minions may always be purchased at any level, without needing to upgrade.
- A named figure may never be upgraded until it has been used in combat, ever, for any reason.
- Named figures must be purchased starting with the lowest point value figure, and then upgraded.
- If a figure has a team symbol of a claimed organization, only that organization may buy the figure.
- If the player does not have an organization, the figures are the cost listed.
- If the player has an organization, player's organization figures cost 5 fewer points.
- If the player has an organization, unaffiliated figures cost 5 extra points.
- If the player has an organization, figures with other team symbols cost 10 extra points.
- When a player upgrades a figure on their team, they may deduct the normal cost of the figure from the cost of the upgraded version.
- If a player has sold a figure, that player may purchase that figure back later for 5 points above the player's normal cost.
- Players may buy figures which were sold by other players at their normal cost.
- Players may upgrade figures which were sold by other players at their normal cost.
- If a player does not have an organization, two versions of a figure that have the same cost may be exchanged for free. (i.e. different versions of Elektra that cost the same)
Poaching/Stealing:
- A figure may never be poached until it has been used in combat, ever, for any reason.
- Organizations may always poach to obtain figures with their team symbol, except as above.
- Organizations with fewer than 5 members can not have their members poached, except as above.
- Winners are immune to poaching, except as above.
