View Full Version : Need help making a fun Wizard of Oz team

My friends and I only play Heroclix casually, never tournaments or anything. And we like coming up with off the wall theme ideas. My last team was a Lord of the Rings team. Now, my latest idea is a Wizard of Oz team (apologies to anyone who thought of the idea before me). Here's what I'm thinking...

Dorothy/Toto - Seems like Goodness and Mercy would work well for those.

Scarecrow - A no-brainer. I'm going with the new one from Blackest Night.

Tin Man - My favorite robot is M-11.

Cowardly Lion - Not sure about this one. I like the Avengers Black Panther for the powers and TA. But maybe there's a playable piece that looks more lion-like.

Good Witch of the North- Here's an excuse the throw in some Prob. Maybe Scarlet Witch or even Jinx.

That would give me about 400 points, which is what I was hoping for in the first place. Anyone else have any ideas for pieces that would work for the characters from the Wizard of Oz?

Any beast for the cowardly lion. Very similar to Black Panther but more 'lion" like. Also if you ever want to add a wizard of Oz, Wizard Shazam works well. PC anywhere could read, "Ignore the man behind the curtain!" Haha.

What about Kraven for cowardly Lion? he has a tiger main around his head?

You could always wait a month and a half and use Puma for the Cowardly Lion!

Also, I just watched "The Marc Pease Experience" movie last night which was largely based on "The Wiz", which was based on "The Wizard of Oz". It was god-awful. Don't see it if you value your time.

fun idea, you should definately do kraven for cowardly lion. Instead of using a duo for dorothy and to-to, use krypto for to-to.

Who was on your lotr team?

I remember someone doing this years ago for a 'movie theme' game and used KC Green Lantern as 'The Wizard', lockjaw as Toto, multiple Pucks for munchkins... maybe Metallo as the Tin Man... I'm drawing a blank at the others.

I remember I played a 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' theme and used Shivaun Erin as Frank N Furter because it was the only transsexual figure made at the time. :)

There is also Captain Britain Lionheart for the Lion (notice the emblem)....

This piece doesnt get played often and it sure would be a good excuse to bust it out.

We picked that up from a RedBox a few weeks ago because it was the only available option that didn't star Stone Cold Steve Austin.

It WAS horrible.

It had such potential! Jason Schwartzman is usually great...though I guess his taste in movies is pretty hit-or-miss. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I'd ever seen the Wiz. But probably not!

Oh, and heh heh, I actually use Lionheart pretty frequently considering what a flash in the pan character she turned out to be.

The last Wizard of Oz team I played was:

Scarecrow (the DCI version, though BN IS a no-brainer) 56 pts

Tin-Man 116 pts AW R Ultron-11

Cowardly Lion 60 pts Bronze Tiger

Toto 140 pts Fenris Wolf

Dorothy 120 pts Leg V Power Girl

Team is 492 pts. I think I slapped Protected on Power Girl with the idea that everyone else was looking out for Dorothy.

Hmm, on second thought, I think I'll go with...

Goodness and Mercy (Dorothy & Toto)
M-11 (Tin Man)
BN Scarecrow (Scarecrow)
Kraven the Spider (Cowardly Lion)

That's 296 is I want to go 300 pts.

Add to that...

AV Scarlet Witch (Glenda the Good Witch) + Thunderbolts(?)
Calculator (Wizard of Oz) + Alias
Loner for M-11
