View Full Version : A Contest for HCRealms Members/Readers
Here we are on the dawn of another SDCC. I thought i would offer up a little something for our most loyal fans. This offer is for HCR board members alone and it will not be posted on our website or Facebook page.
Purchasers of the SDCC Dr. Manhattan @ the convention will be entered into a drawing for some goodies out of my personal collection.
Three lucky winners will receive
2 Watchmen 25 Collectors sets (1 for play, 1 for show)
1 Factory Set of a 2010 HeroClix release of their choice
1 Complete collection of Lantern OP objects (including the Black Lantern)
1 Mystery prize (from my desk)
You'll need to purchase the SDCC Dr. Manhattan figure @ SDCC. The staff will give you a contact form (1 per figure purchased) which you will fill out onsite and hand back to the booth personnel.
If your not going to SDCC, we'll allow purchasers of the Dr. Manhattan figs to fill out forms on your behalf. Just make sure they know to do so - (They will have to purchase a Dr. M to get a form)
Considering the small QTY of Dr. Manhattans available, your odds are pretty good. Good luck all.

Seriously, though, I'm glad you're doing this kind of stuff! When it's a huge success, perhaps we can start doing things like this for Dragon Con or MegaCon? Please? *gives doe eyes*

That's great for the people who had the opportunity and money to go to the con. Chase figures and lanterns for the battle royale, great prizes for the worlds and now a drawing just for realms members. Sucks for those of us who could only go to local cons. It would be nice to see something like this at other cons next year.

I went to SDCC last year, and I am above Canada :p was going to go this year but was too slow on getting 4 day pass :( next year though...

If this contest is to benefit HCRealms members/readers, why put it in one location?
I guess my question is why you would hold a contest that you can only enter at a convention which I'd guarantee a large majority of hcrealms users can't get to? You think you'd hold the contest online or something later- giving each Dr. Manhattan a slip/note inside the box or whatever with a serial to enter a drawing online through HCR? I'm sure it could have been worked out with Typhon...?
It seems generous of wizkids/you to give out stuff like this, and I'm sure people who can actually go to SDCC (Believe me, I would if I could) are quite thankful for this opportunity, but in my brutally honest opinion, it seems to me that it was executed slightly poorly. Just my input.

I appreciate the contest and hope they hold something similiar at Gencon. I will be attending that one, and I think more members of HCR will be there then SDCC. Either way its cool, just hope they do something similiar for the Gaming Convention
That sucks. I couldn't make it there this year :(

We originally didn't plan a contest for the show, We've been wanting to do something for the HCR crowd so I dropped this in yesterday. Agreed, it is not the perfectly executed promotion - but it is a token of our appreciation for all the support you and RealmsWorx has shown toward us and the product.
Just so everyone knows - I intentionally, allowed for HCR members to proxy purchase a colossal Dr. M and have the buyer put in a proxy entry. Not sure if that was lost in the post but it is an option for those of you that can't attend.

Thanks for the heads up Justin. There's something to be said for spontaneity and goodwill, and I just wanted you to know that I think it's a great idea (even though I won't be there this year ;) ).
You know guys, its a real shame that WK offers something like this completely unsolicited and unexpected and folk just have to find fault with it, and seemingly due to the lack of direct benefit. :ermm:
Can't we just enjoy it in the spririt its offered?

Well I don't think you have to be in Canada to feel that way. Being on the east coast San Diego is quite a ways away. Parts of Canada are closer.
The proxy idea is that you find someone here on the the realms that is going. Some of us are thinking someone we know personally. If I'm taking the suggestion right it's someone you know here on the realms. So that just depends how comfortable you are asking fake internet people to help you out.
Overall I don't think it's anything to be a that upset about. There is plenty I miss out on at SDCC year after year. This is just another one. I think the mistake was calling it an hcrealms promotion. When it's a promotion only hcrealms members have advanced knowledge.

Darn, now I have a reason to purchase a Dr. Manhattan huh? I know it sounds like there's some ill will going on with the lack of solicitation on this, but part of me think it's kinda cool to have an exclusive contest on HCRealms for members here.
btw, I'm heading to Comic-Con today, and will have time to pick a Dr. Manhattan up on Friday. If anyone wants one and wants me to enter the contest on their behest, PM me, and maybe we can work something out.

Great, you've found another way to exclude people who aren't privileged to get to go to comic conventions.
And for the record it's hardly a "contest" either. It's more a lottery. Contest implies that some skill is required to win. (unless you count disgusting amounts of disposable income as a skill).
I was really hoping for something like "Take a photo of yourself with the funniest heroclix theme team you can come up with" or "Design a feat card that uses psychic blast as a prerequisite." or "Design Slapstick for us". You know: actual contests...
Sorry to be a negative nancy, as this will be the best thing for people who can get to SDCC and have the money and desire to buy Dr. Manhattan, but to me this is a massive stake in the heart.

I think it's cool that they're doing it, and it's not like I'm accusing them of only helping people who attend the same cons.
I merely voiced my opinion. Much like you did yours. I even tried to suggest that next time they do something through hcrealms if they are going to make it an hcrealms member appreciation thing or however you want to word it. From what I understand, this was fairly out of the blue from Justin, something he might not have gotten much time to plan.

Um, it is actually kind of surprising. In my honest opinion, minus subtle delays which they don't have much control over, NECAKids is doing really well.

Ditto, minus the mod part. Can't justify spending $2k+ (airfare, hotel, tickets, etc.) to get to the other side of the country for a convention.
REALLY wishing WK and Wizard could mend fences so that we could have a WK presence at the WW cons...
