Did anyone else see this episode. The had Christopher Reeve making a special appearance as a Stephen Hawking-esque astronomer who knows where Clark is from and can read Kryptonian. It was a very cool episode. Some of you might be too young to really remember the old Superman movies, or maybe saw them as reruns on TV or something, but Christopher Reeve is defintely the first actor I think of anytime someone mentions Superman. It actually kinda gave me the chills to watch him talking to Clark about Kal-el and Krypton. Very cool...
From a geek stand-point, this show just gets more interesting all the time. I love the fact that they elude to Clark flying but haven't resorted to using it in a full story line yet. Christopher Reeve was just too cool as the Billionaire Scientist guy and it was heart-warming to see him on the TV Screen again....and the little interaction between him and the actor that plays Clark at the end of the show was really cool. Good for whoever is in charge of this show....giving Reeves his just desserts and letting us all know how our version of Superman is doing!:D :D
The episode was unbelievable!!!!! Hands down the best one yet. For a die hard Supes fan like myself, it was incredibly awesome to have Clark walk in and have the same music from the movie playing from when that Clark made that same discovery of his origins.
Also having Chris playing the astronomer in his " fortress of solitude " in the building was a great touch.
Hopefully its the start of many cameos for him. The twist ending is cool to, but the comment that Johnothan makes Really defines what makes Superman.
Must...watch...again.....good thing I taped it :D

I saw it, and really liked it. I liked how they tweaked his "origin", the reason why he was sent to Earth. It helps sharpen the focus of his dual-nature.
Actually back in 86 when John Byrne revamed his origin, that was actually a part of it.
Off subject,I'm very interested in seeing if they keep the baby aspect in the show.
If the decide to stick with his regualr roots, we all know what will unfortunatly happen.
But back to this episode, I wonder if Clark will make the connection with the " meteor rock" and start calling it kryptonite soon.

Your right about the music. I forgot to mention that the first time. Hearing Superman's music when Reeves was giving him all the info was a great touch. The other thing I liked was how the shape of Superman's S with the pentagon around it kept showing up in the symbols and in the cave wall when it opened up.
JOHN WILLIAMS MUSIC ON SMALLVILLE! YES!!!!
Eh, Im a BIG fan, so sue me. :)
I've watched Smallville since the beginning, and I have to say that this was easilly my favorite episode so far. I liked everything about it. Everything.
The music gave me chills. That was the music that I hear everytime I see Superman or hear his name.
The writing was fantastic. The subtleties with Clark's origin, with the astronomer (Reeve's character) as someone else mentioned in his 'fortress of solitude', with the Kryptonian symbols that so closely resemble the big, red S we're all so familiar with, and even how Lex is beginning to toe the line between 'ethical' and 'evil' in his business dealings and in his relationship with Clark.
And it was absolutely fantastic that they brought in Christopher Reeves for an appearance. He is still the only actor that I can picture as Superman, no matter how good Tom Welling is at playing the teenage Clark.
Great job, WB! Keep up the fantastic work! :)

I thought that was Akira Toriyama and Goku. :D
IIRC, those were both around the same time.
Happy coincidence, or did someone like the other's work?

that when Clark is out and about, he is always wearing a red jacket and a blue shirt?
He has been wearing this outfit since as far back in the show that I can remember.
I really loved last nights episode, and the music was the first thing I noticed. It too gave me the chills!
Can't wait to see it again!

Now that you mention it, I have noticed. The only time he wasn't in it was when he was exposed to red kryptonite and he put on all black to look "mean".
That thing about the shirt's not quite right. Yes, he was wearing red jacket / blue shirt last night. But, usually, it's a blue jacket / red shirt combination.
He has only worn the red jacket / blue shirt combo on certain occassions -- specifically, when he does something 'super' or when something happens that directly relates to him becoming Superman.
However, I've noticed that whenever he wears a button-up shirt, he has a hint of the blue t-shirt sticking out from underneath.
And of course what colors came out of the medallion and into Clark after he stuck it into the cave wall? Red, Yellow and Blue, Supermans colors.

This show, last night was Smallville at it's best. The ending really crepped me out, and the music from original music was so hauntingly effective. I hope Christopher Reeve continues as a recurring character, of course i am way biased I have been a fan of his for three decades now. :D
I agree with everyone. Last night's was the best yet. Especially the musical touch. My wife thought it was star wars!!! she has never seen any of the movies(or star wars).

I only got to watch the last 20 minutes or so, but it was great! Seeing Christopher Reeve again, Clark's origins being revealed, John William's themes ... and did any one else see the astronomer's name as a tribute to Curt Swan, longtime Superman comicbook artist?

I never really, liked Supes, ..I mean John Byrne's work and his 'power-player' role, in JLA is something I enjoy as a comic collector, ...but, Smallville is turning me into a big Superman fan !
...or maybe its just Chloe

great episode!!!!
As I was telling my friends here - NOW it feels like Superman.
Up until now it's been a show about a kid with powers that is derivative of the Superman story. But last night it finally took on a new meaning and gave us a peek at the true legend that is the Man of Steel.
And in the last two episodes I'm starting to agree with an old rumor I heard that perhaps Chloe is going to grow up to be Lois Lane, that being her "big-time-reporter pen name". Hey, she's a go-getter reporter that tends to get herself in trouble, isn't she?

I never heard that rumor but I was thinking a lot about that -- I brought out the comics and I remembered that Lois was in the military or something. I dunno, maybe. Also, the whole thing about Clark growing up to be..I can't remember how they worded it but something like a God...Hello, that doesn't mean he has to destroy the earth, just look over it, like he grows up to. And someone mentioned something about Goku, that's exactly what I was thinking, a little too much like DB!

I agree with Sfield, the torch was passed tonight . I was a little disappointed that they choose to burn another symbol into the Kent burn instead of the S-shield instead but hey it made the show more interesting. *quick show of hands* Who was expecting a hologram of Jor-EL to pop up when Clark entered the key into the spaceship?
Anyhow does anyone have any theories on Martha's pregnacy yet? Is it Supergirl/matrix? General Zod? or just a normal kid?
Note to Smallville editors this is why we watch Smallville because of Superman character devolopement not teenage love triangles. Great job on last night show guys please keep it up. :)

OMG! I missed it! I guess I'll definately have to watch the rerun on Sunday! Sounds like it was truly awesome!
I must confess it was I who started the Chloe-Lois rumour as from early on it seemed that the story-line was preparing the way for it to happen and I like looking for plot twists. However, several people pointed out that the show's producers/writers supposedly said that Lois would turn out to be Chloe's cousin and Chloe was there to add a love-triangle plot to the show. It still seems to me like Chloe as Lois makes a natural story progression. Maybe the writers lied but I doubt it.
I for one was expecting Christopher Reeves to play a hologram of Jor-el when Clark opened the ship but enjoyed seeing him in the episode. It was a shame they couldn't work in a scene with him and Martha since Annette O'Toole played Lana in the third movie. As for the pregnancy, it's so far off the comic plotline that I suspect it won't end well for the baby. Martha may lose it.
Yeah, but at what point does everyone forget who everyone else is?
When does Lex no longer recognize Clark (when he has his glases on)?
Same thing if Chloe becomes Lois...
And when will Chloe and Lana get together.....mmmmm sandwiches
Well, I dont think theyll forget one another, I think of Smallville as a semi-Elseworlds type storyline, where things could and do differ from the actual comic book origins. I think it would be really cheesy if at the very end of the series, a huge kryptonian blast wipes everyones mind away. THis season is definately better than the last. Im glad they got rid of the Meteor-Rock-Super-Villain-Every-Week type of writing.
That's something that has bothered me about the show. The fact that there is so much going on with everyone learning about Clark. How can he remain a secret with nobody connecting when he finally puts on that red sheet ? I'm also glad they don't have the meteor-villain weekly now.
Also, in the comics, are Smallville and Metropolis so close together? In the show it seems like its right down the road almost. Smallville is in Kansas and I thought Metropolis is around NYC. Any ideas on DC comics geography?
Well, I saw somewhere that Keystone City is supposed to be in NE Kansas ('cause that's where I'm from), and Central City is right across the border from it in Missouri.
However, I'm not sure that they've every really firmly established what state either Metropolis or Gotham are in.
It seems like, at least in Smallville, Metropolis is representative of Kansas City (or, perhaps maybe Wichita). Though, I too had always assumed that Metropolis (and Gotham, for that matter) was something like New York City.
Here's a site that has sort of an 'atlas' of the cities of the DCU:
http://www.hyperborea.org/flash/cities.html
And, here's another:
http://www.thekryptonian.com/comics/cities.htm
That one also puts Keystone City and Central City in the heartland, but Metropolis and Gotham are clearly in Deleware. So, I'm not sure where Smallville is getting that from (perhaps just for simplicities sake, they're putting Metropolis in Kansas ... ?).
In the comics, it used to be that Metropolis was on the east coast and analogous to New York.
that kryptonia website puts Metropolis in Delaware?
Just has me having flashbacks of Wayne's World..
Delaware....We're in Delaware....yeah....okay.

You want a stretch to help that particular conspiracy theory?
Chloe wrote Lana Lang down as her "sister" in her family tree.
"Chloe Lang" is rather close, phonetically, to "Lois Lane".
