View Full Version : Is Iron Man and Warmachine the only duo?

So far it seems that Iron Man/Warmachine is the only duo in WoS. Could the figures yet to be shown be duos or has NECA decided against making many more of these? What do you think?

It could just be that they decided to do only 1 duo as Brave and the Bold had a lot of duos. Maybe they're just lessening the amount this set due to the previous set's amount.

Maybe Marvel does not like duos and would not authorize the use of duos.

I would think that NECA saw how the massive amounts of duos ruined Brave and the Bold and decided never to do that again.
Too bad a DC set had to be "experimented on" before they could realize it.
It would seem that they are the only duo. It's too bad, I was really hoping for some Marvel duos :)

I am not the biggest fan of duos but I would hardly say that Brave and the Bold was "ruined". I am not even a DC fan and I liked that set quite a bit.

i think wizkids should use every mechanic in every set. i don't mind there being a duo/giant/indom/sharpshooter/AE fig in every set.

I wouldn't say I was hoping for duos but I wouldn't have been bothered by a Spiderman/Black Cat or Daredevil/Elektra.

Really, these are the only two duos I would have expected or wanted in this set. The fact that there are none doesn't bother me in the slightest, however. :)

I am wondering if the mysterio figure will be a duo, since the picture looks like there are multiple of him on the dial. Though it could just be a sculpt to show how he uses illusions to misdirect people.
Even though I Loathe Deadpool's Over exposure: I'd like to have a Bullseye and Deadpool Duo

In one of the WoS preview articles, they mentioned how they pick a main design theme for each set. For Crisis and SI, they focused on the big storyline. For AA, HoT and WoS, they've focused on a specific franchise of their respective universes.
For BB they really intended to focus on the duo mechanic.
I also noticed.....no peanut bases (at least none I saw) for this set. Makes me love this set even more.

Just like Fantastic Forces's numerous Giant and Double-Based figures
Or, Indy's all ground pounders.
I was hoping that the last two sets were it for AE figures.

It does look like Mary Jane is carrying something and that something does appear to be white, could it be a Mary Jane and Ms Lion duo figure with Pet Avengers keyword!?!?!

I applaud this move, whether it is a sign of things to come or simply coincidence. A single duo-figure per set, preferably in the SR slots, is perfectly fine as a way to show a set of characters working in harmony as opposed to their single counterpart. Drowning us in duos in that 20-25% range (B&B and Watchmen) is a bad move; we have limited set space to work with and new figures/remakes that need made. I don't hate the duo mechanic by any means, but I do dislike the both or nothing aspect they put on team-building.
I am especially stoked about Iron Man & War Machine because it's not another stinking peanut base duo. The peanut duos are more difficult to store, and compared to the single based figures that depict some exciting, dynamic sculpts, the peanut bases have largely been a letdown to me. Too many of them (read everything Watchmen except Oz/Bubastis, and about half of B&B) have been sculpts that are two parts, literally just two single figure sculpts glued to opposite circles of the peanut base. I glare angrily at you, Luthor & Brainiac, for your potentially awesome Luthor with Brainaic over his head and covering his back. Peanut duos are instant trade-bait to me, including the ones from my Watchmen set.
Single based duos require the figures to be interacting within the sculpt, which has always made them more visually appealling. Batman/Robin, Cap/Bucky, Nightwing/Starfire, Hawkman/Atom: beautifully sculpted and visually compelling. Fire/Ice, Luthor/Brainiac, Nite Owl/Rorschach, Nite Owl/Comedian, Silk Specter/Manhattan, Batman/Green Arrow, Green Lantern/Green Arrow: might as well have each character on an individual base for no more involved than the sculpt was. Is there any reason why Black Adam/Captain Marvel or Ivy/Harley is on a peanut base? It fits on a single base just fine. It's a confusion by NECA that we enjoy the peanut bases, which I really hope to have clarified within the next set or two.
Honestly, I think if they want to depict more famous duos, a better way of delivery is the Mammoth/Shimmer or Booster/Beetle singles: giving them a special power that only works when their teammate is in line of fire or within a certain range. It adds that synergy without being a pain to store or transport, and leaves the option to field them singularly if it's really desired.

One duo is fine, and this one looks to be a very powerful one! I can't wait to see what Iron Man/War Machine do!!!:):):)

There's still a slim chance we could get The Enforcers as our first Trio.
Although it would probably a SR just to mock me.

Oh man!
I would totally give remove Ms. Lion and give put her on her own base!
BRAVE & THE BOLD screams duos. Why is that so hard for ppl to process? A one-shot ppl...get over it!
If the next Marvel release was "Marvel Team-Up" you could bet there would be a lot of duo's in that as well! But it's not, so there aren't...

Brave and the Bold was ruined?!?! Why didn't someone tell me? I actually kind of liked the set. :(
Man... Ruined. How did I not see it?
Seriously. Nothing got 'ruined', and duos will continue to be a part of the Heroclix game. We all knew that duos were going to be the theme of Brave and the Bold.
Maybe Marvel does not like duos and would not authorize the use of duos.
Except that they have in the past, did for this set, and I will wager that they continue to do so in the future.
Who knows? Maybe next year we can get a 'Marvel Team-Up' set featuring a whole lot of Marvel duos.
Spidey and the Torch, Spidey and the Thing, the Thing and the Hulk, Spidey and Wolverine, Cap and the Falcon...
Yeah, I would like that.
I also noticed.....no peanut bases (at least none I saw) for this set. Makes me love this set even more.
Yeah. Peanut bases are a different story. I do not think that anyone is a fan of the peanut bases.
If it makes sense for the figure, then yeah. If they can stick a dial in both ends for some powerful characters like a giant Sphinx or Stranger? Please do!
But for Luthor and Braniac? Get closer fellas. For Power Ring? Seriously?
The less seen of peanut bases, the better as far as I am concerned.

I agree BatB was all about the duos. I also think DC itself is a duo heavy world, as opposed to Marvel which I believe more AE friendly. IMHO:classic:

Yep yep. These are the 2 I was hoping for. The duos are not missed with a set this great, though. I am just hoping they will make it another set.

Clearly this shows he is not a duo. Unless, of course, his trait allows it/

I 2nd that!
Yeah, the peanut bases were more an issue than the duos, really. I'm fine with them when the character warrants one, like Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy, anyone on a motorcycle, or just something to accomodate a sculpt like The Flashes and "Barry Allen Dying".
But many of the duos in Brave and the Bold didn't need a peanut base. Superman and Flash didn't need one. GL and Flash didn't need one. I think most of the duos could have been resculpted to fit on one base like previous sets' duos were.
I'd imagine the duos would have been far less irksome to people were they not on those peanuts.

I've been thinking the same thing, actually. There are still a few 'Clix I haven't seen. A Fancy Dan, Montana and Ox SR would be pretty cool, and maybe Big Man as the unknown Rare.
As seen with my own eyes, there are no peanut bases, even under Groot. The only oversized base is #100 (the Amazing Fantasy #15 Brick Figure). But I also didn't see #2, #16, #40, #51, #63 or #103 (#16 is likely Ironclad)... so I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.
Since I am allergic to Peanuts, I hope we never see another Peanut Based fig again. :ermm:
