Hello all,

I don't have a local playgroup to help me test out teams for GENCON, so I'm looking for help from the masses. I've put together several teams here, and I want to know which ones are useless, which ones are ok, and which ones might actually compete at a high level like Day 3 of GENCON. I have no assumptions on my skill that I will be making the finals, but it never hurts to be prepared. So in terms of high level play, which of these teams have a chance. Is there a minor tweak to one of them that could help. Please don't tell me to put Dr. Strange on the team, but if you mess with the support figures, that's ok. Thanks for any assistance given.

And if anyone out there is going to know what I might play, well, 1 down, couple hundred to go for ya!

Team 1) Amazons

DN Wonder Woman* 215
BB Amazon* 50
BB Amazon of BM* 19
Amazon ATA 4per
Total 296
Theme Bonus +3 and 1 reroll

This uses the new Wonder Woman to not only add an 8 range attack, but also one of the good Amazons to help with the attack. Only problem is I don't have the new Wonder Woman as I haven't spent the money on the new starter.

Team 2) Avengers

HoT War Machine 137
HoT Captain America 72
SI Spider-Man 50
AV Scarlet Witch 35
6 point Pog
Total 300
Theme Bonus +4 w/ 2 rerolls.

Very good offensive pieces with great damage potential. Cap can handle any stealth pieces unless the entire other team is stealth. Spidey can be used as tie-up or Close combat cover. Lacks on most support powers only having PC.

Team 3) Wildcard

HoT Moonstone 76
w/ Thunderbolts 8
AA Robin 66
CR Dawnstar 60
SI Spider-Man 50
SI Doombot 5953 40
Total 300

Well rounded team with 3 wildcards copying 3 TAs. I went with Doombot because of the wildcard and the longer range, but i could be convinced to go with GCD and pogs.

Team 4) Quirky Barrier Team

M&M Jean Grey 90
AA Lyssa Drak 72
AA Nightshade 50
AA Spider-Man 50
AV Scarlet Witch 35.

Here is the trick with this team. Quadruple Barrier. Once you push Scarlet Witch to it during setup, Lyssa and Witch become your main Barrier pieces with Jean Grey using her RS and Mind Control to take your opponents best piece and use it against them. Spider-Man can be TK'd up with a 4 damage to defend from the eventual onslaught. Nightshade can use her Smoke Cloud SP to also keep people away. Again, it's stupid quirky but like the Gizmo team, it will likely catch many off guard. The only real weakness is if it gets caught against a HoT Cap on an outdoor map.

I like team one (Amazons) and team 2 (Avengers), but I am not too keen on the other 2 teams. Here are the weaknesses I see in each team.

Team 1: With all of the good low cost figs available in modern age (SI Spidey, Iron fist, Gamora, AA Question etc.) you may find yourself facing some nasty swarm teams whose use of extra actions may wear you down. Also, this team has limited ways to deal with a range heavy team (e.g., something fronted by Winter Soldier, HOT Thor, etc.).

Team 2: This is the most balanced team you posted, but it is going to be vulnerable to stealthy teams that have a sacrificial piece to tie up Cap to stop him from range attacking. Also, I think a high movement HSS team (i.e., Zoom and Max Mercury) would play havoc on your strategies.

Team 3: Again the lack of support powers could be a weakness. It has a nice balance of close and range fighters as well as good move and attack abilities. Once again I see this team being very vulnerable to teams with Zoom and his hypersonic flurry due to few damage reducers.

Team 4: This is by far the most vulnerable of the teams you have posted. In addition to the vulnerability to HOT Cap, a single CR Kid Flash could ruin your day as could most speedsters. Also, a range heavy team could sit back and blow out a barrier square and follow up with a nasty ranged beating on the exposed fig(s).

Just my thoughts on what you might face
