If you are using the Alter-Ego special power, then you start the character at the orange line and the character is out at the first KO click. If you play a character with an orange line from its green starting line, then it is out at its first KO click.

second question do you still have to place special objects 5 squares away from your starting zone?

From the Blackest Night Rulebook "Special objects must also be placed at least 5 squares away from any player’s starting area."

i think i understand, but let me be sure. so if i'm useing superman as the 216 point figure. in green line is his starting line. and you plat thought all the way til his ko clicks. now if you use the 32 point AE then you start with the 32 point figure. use a power action to turn int superman then play from the orange line til you hit the KO's. so 216 green though orange line to ko.

If you play just Superman, paying the full price, the orange line is irrelevant. All that matters is the starting (green) line and the KOs.
