Okay boys and girls, here we have 128 of our favorite songs from the 70's, from some of our favorite artists, which will be pitted against one another, Match by Match, Round by Round, weeding them all out until they get to the FINAL MATCH, which will have our two favorite showtunes face against one another to see which one emerges as Grand Champion of our latest Rock Wars!

As always, this TOC should be voted using a very simple criteria, which song do YOU like more, which do YOU feel you would rather listen to, and which would YOU say is ultimately more deserving to move on. Easy.

Pretty basic really. Songs are matched up, you all vote on the one you like more, the winner goes to the Next Round, and we do this over and over again until the Rounds are Over. I do ask that you all give objective opinions and votes here, listening to all songs and arguments here within this TOC with an open mind, beginning to end, and base your honest votes from that.

You know the drill by now, as always I ask that you please listen to each song again with each new match before voting. Thanks all.

So without further adieu, let’s get started with the Next match of many matches to come, in HCRs latest Rock Wars, Favorite 70's Song!

I now give you:

OH WHAT A NIGHT! (DECEMBER 1963)
(Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDxhugRKZ8g)

vs.

ZIGGY STARDUST
(David Bowie) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXq5VvYAI1Q)

So what say you all - which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will be as dead as disco?

Easy vote for me. "Oh What A Night, December 1963" is one of the most fun tunes of the 70s. Sorry Ziggy!

Oh What A Night.

So many Bowie songs could have beaten it, but not this one.

David Bowie at his very best with Mick Ronson on guitar vs Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons after the 60s ended. Four Seasons best work was always that 60s stuff.

Ziggy though...close my eyes and I'm back in my bedroom smoking some good stuff and I'm right there with Bowie on my cheap-### stereo.

Oh What A Night! (December 1963)

You had me at that bass line.

Yes! Exactly! Without that bass line it is purely a pop/pseudo-disco song. (Okay, even with the bass line its pure pop.) But that terrific bass line just sells the song. And all along I thought I was the only one who noticed that.

Ziggy is one of my all time favourite epic rock songs and my absolute favourite Bowie song, Oh What A Night is the Four Seasons well after their peak. This one is not even close for me.

Oh, it's so tempting to tie it up again, but I have to vote for the one I prefer rather than the humorous tie.

Ziggy Stardust to advance
