I would like to play, but there are no organised games. Alternate worlds in Prahran hosts, but no one turns up. Went a few times 2 years ago when one other guy would come.
Which side of Melbourne are you on? I'm in the inner north.

does alternate worlds still host? i've been there a couple times, for clix. but buy most of them online since it's cheaper. i'm from east side. it would be nice if we could get a bunch more enthusiast and meet up to play sometime.

On their schedule there is heroclix for (next) Tuesday 17th Aug, at 6:30pm. Shall we meet there?
It is constructed 300pts. Think it usual cost about $6 to play.
sounds interesting! love to give it a shot. although i'm not too sure if i can make it next week. hectic week, got couple assignments. (uni life) i checked alternate world's and it seems almost every week they have heroclix. anyway care to fill me in on how it goes?
my understanding is constructed means we bring our own teams.
do they have sealed booster games, love to try that as well.
do we bring maps or do they supply?
i noticed the word prize! haha, so im assuming its competitive, so knock out. round robin?
sorry for so many question! i'm fairly, well, quite very new to all this.

cool, I realised i'm busy this tues anyway and would be late, so how about next tues.
To answer your questions in order
Yes constructed means bring your own team
not sure, but since its probably only us we can determine such rules.. maybe when web of spiderman comes out.
I believe we need to supply maps, but could be wrong
hmm.. I would not get too excited about prizes.. they may not really have it since on one turns up, and past experience, prizes were very old..

Prices at Alternate Worlds are disgusting!
Me and a mate travelled down from Ballarat for the Starro Tournaments when they had them. Only 3 players showed up including us and I managed to win Starro. :)
We have a regular group that plays up here in Ballarat- tournaments every second Thursday - if you ever feel like travelling up. I've had guys come up from Melbourne a couple of times before, but not since we moved into the awesome new venue we've got now.

Actually only a couple of blocks from the train station- easy walking distance. We usually finish around 10:30. Not sure when the last train back is...let me just google it...
...ugh looks like 8.55 is the last train to Melbourne. Lame.
ah i was getting more excited reading the new post. but to hear the last train 8.55, :( that is depressing!
what time do you guys start on the thursdays? sounds like fun, but not sure if i can make it, my classes finish at 6. on thursday. considering traveling time to get from where i am to ballarat, im looking at near 8. which leaves very little playing time. although im always up for traveling during the breaks.
WakandaMan

We try to start at 7. Often people show up late or don't have their teams finalised when they arrive so a lot of the time we don't start until 7:30. That would work as long as your team is organised.
You can check the tournament formats in the thread stickied at the top of the Australian forum.

most likely indeed! as long as the weather permits and nothing important comes up i should be making my way down.
although i dont have any map cept the blackest night starter one :/
a question to anyone in genera in melbourne, anyone selling clixs?
WakandaMan
08/19/2010, 23:36
Boosters or Singles?
Boosters or Singles?
singles. i've compared the prices online and in alternate, it's way overpriced there, so im tryin to find an alternative as i dont realli like waitin for my clix to come in the mail.
WakandaMan

Yeah unfortunately Alternate Worlds is the only place I know of that sells singles in Melbourne, and their prices are atrocious. They have SO MANY too...you'd think they'd catch on and lower their prices a little. I've never bought any clix from them except for boosters when they're on sale.
A friend and I have been selling some singles in Ballarat. I bought a players collection who was leaving the game and have been selling off the figs cheap...not much good left in it though but you could PM me a want list if you like.
Specifically, this thread (Tournaments at Goodgames Ballarat).
the events look great! especially the webofspiderman sealed games. :( kinda sucks though since the last trains are at 8.55.
if only there was a traveling crew from melbourne i kinda hitch a ride.

Well talk to crimson triangle when you meet up at Alternate Worlds. Maybe you guys can car pool?
A couple of other guys from Melbourne have come to the tournaments in Ballarat before - Aaron (hero_temp here on realms) and Dave (don't think he's on realms though). I don't think Aaron drives either though. I could email Dave for you and see what he thinks about the idea.

A few guys in one car putting in petrol money would probably actually work out cheaper than the train. If I know you're coming I don't mind starting the tournament a little later - I'll just make sure my regulars are all organised so that we'll be ready to play as soon as you get here.
The WoS release would be a great one to aim for!

i definitely wouldnt mind putting in petrol money. let me know if you know anyone interested in that. i don't have a driving license or car so i'm at most disadvantage :(

I hope you guys sort something out! There's a lot less clix being played in Australia than there used to be, and it's a real shame. I'd love to see some areas revitalised. :)

Well if only someone had a car.
Oh, and if you want to play Tues, there is no listed build, so what do you feel like.. I'm leaning more to 400pt Golden Age, but open to other options.

Tonight we played at Alternative Worlds.
Perau thrashed my Runaways with a Blackest Night team of Mera Flash and Atom, and only just took down my Thunderbolts with a Batman and Gotham friends team.

The Runaways did take out Mera & Atom (Mainly thanks to Nico & Molly), but couldn't touch Flash. They will be so much better once Victor Mancha comes out in WoS.

I haven't played there for ages. Probably a couple of years in fact.
Shoot crimson triangle and perau a PM and ask them, in case they don't see your message here.
Alternate Worlds is effectively no more, as of a month or two back. I think that spells the end of Heroclix in Melbourne. And as high as their prices were for singles, I know of no other place that sells them now.
I'm late to this thread, but that's because I only started getting interested in Clix again in the past few weeks, and started looking for info on the local scene...

Kinda ridiculous that the clix scene is booming just up the road here in Ballarat but it's virtually non-existant in Melbourne. Someone just needs to find a GOOD gaming store in Melbourne that is willing to host tournaments and stock clix, and offer to run their tourneys for them.

So is Alternate Worlds closed down? If it has, then good riddance to bad rubbish.
Alternate Worlds has moved way out to Bayswater as a showroom/warehouse to conduct sales mostly online.
As for gaming, according to their website:
Coming Soon at our New Showroom/Warehouse
Twice a month on Sundays
Open Gaming
However they handled the gaming side of things, they were one of the best COMIC shops in the world and their closure was a real blow for comics in Melbourne.

Yeapo, went to Alt Worlds the other day to pick up some singles, all closed down. A pity cause as above, they were an excellent comic store.
Also , I'm still in Melbourne but have not played for a long time (last time was in Ballarat from memory)

Well there you go.
I here there is a great new comic shop in the city called All Star Comics. Haven't been in to check it out yet but it's supposed to be quite good. Also Comics R' Us is a good store not far from where Alt Worlds was, although they don't stock clix. I'll have to check whether All Star stocks clix.

ALL STAR is very similar to COMICS R US but with friendlier staff. They do not stock Clix.
However, MIND GAMES MELBOURNE on Swanston St (?) does have a few of the Clix special non-random packs upstairs.

Yeah I know the guys there, really nice guys. I just sent them an email asking them if they would consider stocking clix and they said they're reluctant to as they don't know much about the game.
However they said to try and get the Goodgames that is a few doors down from them to start stocking it and running tournaments. Apparently they are open to the idea but would need someone competent and keen to run tournaments for them most likely.
So any of you Melbournites keen? All you needs is a decent grasp of the rules and some people skills. I'd be happy to give some pointers, and could potentially even get some Ballarat players to attend sometimes.

My mates go to goodgames for friday night magic, the place is set up for tourneys, and the staff are very good. At this point of time, spending time starting up or playing is not an option for me, so unfortunately i will not be able to help out.

I've had some changes in my life since the end of last year, resulting in me being inbetween jobs atm as I quit my last one in March after 7 years (GSX release the week after quiting, hence I own none of it :ermm: )
I may get back heavily into Clix after I found new work, but at the moment I will be trading for the few fig from GSX and the new set I want.

Howdy Folks,
I hope this isn't to much thread necromancy. I just got interested in Heroclix this week myself and I was wondering if there was either a group that played and/or a store around Melbourne that sold anything other than the occasional Fast Forces pack.
I'd be interested in giving the game a shot myself. I picked up the Green Lantern Fast Force pack and I've 'played' a couple of games against myself to try and get a handle on the rules. But that's certainly not the same is it?
Is anyone still playing around Melbourne?
Thanks

I'd recommend asking around in Good Games. They should be able to order some boosters for you as well even if they don't have any in stock.

Thanks for the heads up WakandaMan.
Do you mean the one in Chapel St. in particular or any one in general. I live near the one in Dandenong but they had almost nothing when I was in there.
