View Full Version : Q about Elevated Terrain and Range
Hey, I was just re-reading the BN rulebook and I have a question about elevated terrain.
IIRC, it used to be that range to or from the rim of elevated terrain and grounded terrain was subtracted by one; (ie. you may only be 7 squares apart but you need an 8 range to make an attack)
But I saw no reference to this in the BN rulebook, has that been rescinded?

yes.
At least at gencon, my range wasn't hindered all weekend and no one stopped me lol

You may be thinking of an older iteration of the rules. No such rule exists in regard to range and elevated terrain anymore. 6 squares is 6 squares, elevated to grounded, grounded to grounded or elevated to elevated.

That hasn't been a rule for awhile I think. Don't remember it in the FF rule book either.
Thanks! Will amend my playing accordingly.

When the soaring mechanic still existed, range from grounded to soaring was halved.
However, to the best of my knowledge, you never had to modify range from grounded to elevated.

Infinity Challenge had a rule where if the attacker was using TK to attack with an object and the target was on elevated terrain then you added 1 square to the distance traveled, i.e., if the object went 6 squares then you counted 7. (But that rule is obviously long gone.)

...and was for just TK, not ranged attacks in general.
Just in case you thought the weird, special case rules are a symptom of modern rule sets and rules laywers, nope, they've been in the game since day one. : - )
