I'm debating buying a one or two extra Watchmen boxed sets for the Top Knot generics.
Is there any trade potential for the character figs? Or would I just be paying another $100 for crappy generics?

I'm sure you'd be able to get something in trade for them. I wouldn't really expect too much for them though. You might be better off looking on e-bay and buying some Top-Knots on there if they pop up.

I'm buying the watchmen set for a few figures and probably am not the only person that would be willing to trade the other pieces from the set.

If you want, I might be interested in the non-generic and non-peanut base figures in the set. PM me if you want to talk about an equitable splitting of the price.

yeah i think people are going to be surprised how good this set play after its released. but $200 to $300 is alittle steep just for 2 extra figures. just buy them as they show up on e-bay. also i remember hearing about there might be action pack of the set being released from another thread. so if this turns out to be true. then keep your fingers crossed that they do a knot thug action pack.
Zenhattan will be a $40 figure if he never gets released any other way.
The other main characters will probably settle in at $8-10.

I think that many of the figures in the Watchmen set will hold surprising trade value, simply because many people don't want to pay for a whole set and plan to buy the sigles they like on the secondary market (ebay, HCR trade forums, whatever). At the same time, the set is a bit expensive to buy multiples for resale. There's not going to be a lot of supply to meet that demand.
How much are people willing to pay for a Zen Manhattan? How much are people willing to pay for Big Figure? Will Big Figure be errata'd? These two figures are going to make up the main resale value of a Watchmen set, so the answers will determine whether selling Watchmen singles is worthwhile. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't considering buying a second Watchmen set to give it a try - but it could be an expensive experiment.
Those who want to pick up inexpensive Knot Top generics on the secondary market are kidding themselves, though. Even though their dials are not Superman Robot good, there just won't be enough of them to go around.

Exactly man. Like trying to complete my Batman: Alpha set, people were trying to sell Gotham Policeman for ten bucks a pop!!! That's just madness and I'm not willing to play that game with Top Knots.
But it may be the only viable way to get more.
I was really excited about this set, but the closer I get to getting it, the more I think about what I wanna play, the more dissappointed I am taht I advanced ordered it.

You're really that keen for Knot Tops?
I mean, I wouldn't mind getting a couple extra, but "Knot Top Team" is not even in the top ten teams that I'd want to try when I get the Watchmen set.

What I was really excited about was the generic prisoners. Thought we'd get the Watchmen, the Minute Men and three generic prisoners and three generic Top Knots. I really have no interest in the pea-nut duos or multiples of the same characters. Just wanna try and get the most out of it.

The trade value of the character figs depends on whether or not they release an action pack/box set of the main characters. I'm not going to buy the full collector's set, but do want some of the characters like Nite Owl or Rorschach. If they release them in an action pack, easier/cheaper to get them and less demand on the secondary market. If they don't, then players will have to trade for them and the prices will be higher.

Honestly, when I get my Watchmen set, I'll probably be willing to trade with you.
They just aren't terribly interesting to me.

Wait a second. What's the actual name of the figure? The Top Knots or the Knot Tops? I keep seeing people say it both ways.

We had one WK comment that suggested the possibility of a Watchmen battle pack, and since then nothing.
We may get a Watchmen battle pack (I give it over 50% odds), but who knows how far into the future? I give it less than 10% odds that it will happen in 2010. So by the time you've waited to find out whether there will be a battle pack and whether it includes the character dials you want, figures from the original collector's set will have dried up on the secondary market.
Somebody who waits for a battlepack to get Zen Manhattan, only to find out (in April 2011) that the battlepack has Giant Vietnam Manhattan, will find it much more difficult to acquire the figure that they want.
