Firelord - Is he Broken?

A fun user suggested poll, this is always a hot topic of debate so lets put it in poll form and see what kind of numbers we come up.

for the umpteenth time, no, he is a very powerfull fig to start, but with smart play, you can take him out fairly easily.

I don't have an E Firelord, but my R and V Firelords are both securely glued to their bases. I've got a Grundy with one foot in the air, though, so I guess you could say he's broken. Is there a poll for that?

Or did you mean something else?

When talking about a figure being broken its not in the literal sense but a play balance sense. Basically is the figure too good for its points which cuases it to be heavily used/abused.

I personally don't feel he's broken, he's strong but not broken. But a heavily debated topic like this deserves a chance to be voted on.

In all seriousness, I think comments like that only prove that the subject is tired to the point that it's humorous.

For me? I say he was in the first set, but the new figures continue to force balance onto the game.

I reckon Firelord was borken at first but that he gets less so with every figure that is released. The more figs/abillities/combinations of teams that are out there, the less significant he becomes.

I'm serious - my Grundy really does have only one foot attached to his base. Although it does make him look like he's going to stomp someone, which is why I haven't bothered fixing him...

OK, OK. Seriously, I was just looking for a better explanation of "broken". Is Firelord too good for his points? Yes - even JonL has talked about that. Does he overwhelm the game because of it? No. It can be difficult to beat a Firelord team but it's not impossible. And there are enough point levels, scenarios, and other options which minimize his impact.

So my answer would be he's better than his points but not to an overwhelming degree. Where does that fit in the poll?

I think Firelord is definately chipped, but not broken. He's always been a tough piece to deal with, but somehow, I usually manage. His point cost is just a little bit too low, in my opinion.

I won't vote that Firelord is broken or borken, but I will vote that this horse is thoroughly beaten like an Alabama housewife. We hear more about this subject day in and day out, why is this poll mandated by the public? Tsanikk cuts-and-pastes the RCE rules less often than Firelord's Borkeness is brought up. :)

Well the public asked for this poll and it is a topic that has been discussed to death so this was a good way for people to just hit the radio button and vote their opinion on the subject rather than add to yet another thread.

If you guys dislike this poll feel free to suggest others, we're always looking for idea's.

I think this is a much overdue poll. There has been so many discussions on the topic that go nowhere. I really couldn't tell how the majority of players felt tho so this one is much needed.

looks like the majority so far think he is NOT broken. So it appears, that as in most of life, it's just a few loud mouth naysayers stirring the pot!


And I apologise if you take offense to that. am not calling you a loudmouth if you don't like firelord. It was a statement on society as a whole. it's usually just the negative dissatified people who voice thier opinions the loudest. and of course they do. why would the happy and content raise their voices? they are generally the fat happy sheep bieng led to the slaughter...

Firelord is from a flawed race, that's why I have my superman rule him with strength. :D Nah firelord is just a straight forward power piece. I tend to think of him as the queen in chess when used by a little kid, devasting but he can be taken down, and than quite quickly. Once you do that you can generally pick apart a firelord army when the heavy hitter is gone. Just my mho BJ.

This conversation will still be going after heroclix have stopped being made. There will be old men raving in the street with little blue rings on, claiming that the world is going to end because firelord is broken.

I reserve broken for characters like cycops and quasar, both being broken because the rules have changed against them, making scott about 8 points too much, and quasar about 30.

But firelord is not broken, I don't play him because he's overplayed and I have never read a comic involving him. I will often comment to people that have a black panther on their team that they have probably never heard of him before this game. I feel it is important to know the character you play with.

firelord is fine, he deals a lot of damage, but his defense is ####, I believe he has the lowest defense in the marvel universe, he ends up with 8. 8!? you'd have to be drunk to miss an 8. And further more despite his good opening stats this great cosmic being can be punched in the face by thug. Yes knuckles can walk up to firelord and punch him in the face for two clix, as long as he rolls a ten. Any one who can be damaged by thug is not broken.


And if you're looking for thread ideas, how about a thread with hypothetical stats for a unique black panther, one that has a chance of taking out the fantastic four single handedly

No, not broken, never. He's very effective in low point games, but once you start getting into the 400 and above he becomes less significant. He's just a great fig to play.

As I said when we had the whole original debate :-

1. If you don't allow dupes of non-generics in the game, he is not so bad. Slightly Chipped, bot not broken (I said it first...)

2. The new expansions would develop the game to the point where he was no longer a major problem, due to more possible responses...and this happened.

3. In all his forms, he is about 15pts undercosted. Playtesting changed some elements of the piece before game launch, and the points costing was under valued. (However, this is ancient history now).

Not playing dupes is far more important than not playing Firelord, IMHO.

I think this poll would've served it's purpose much better had it been conducted a few months back.

I mean this topic used to be the most heated one of all, and look at the pitiful turnout on the votes (77!). Too bad, as the results would've been way more interesting then, and would've probably saved us all a few headaches.
