Okay boys and girls, here we have 128 of our favorite songs from the 70's, from some of our favorite artists, which will be pitted against one another, Match by Match, Round by Round, weeding them all out until they get to the FINAL MATCH, which will have our two favorite showtunes face against one another to see which one emerges as Grand Champion of our latest Rock Wars!

As always, this TOC should be voted using a very simple criteria, which song do YOU like more, which do YOU feel you would rather listen to, and which would YOU say is ultimately more deserving to move on. Easy.

Pretty basic really. Songs are matched up, you all vote on the one you like more, the winner goes to the Next Round, and we do this over and over again until the Rounds are Over. I do ask that you all give objective opinions and votes here, listening to all songs and arguments here within this TOC with an open mind, beginning to end, and base your honest votes from that.

You know the drill by now, as always I ask that you please listen to each song again with each new match before voting. Thanks all.

So without further adieu, let’s get started with the Next match of many matches to come, in HCRs latest Rock Wars, Favorite 70's Song!

I now give you:

HEART OF GLASS
(Blondie) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGU_4-5RaxU&feature=av2n)

vs.

CHIQUITITA
(ABBA) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVnMDYSaYA4)

So what say you all - which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will be as dead as disco?

Heart of Glass gets my vote.

I'll echo that.

On a strange aside, this matchup reminded me of something.

Does anybody remember the Japanese duo Pink Lady? Remember the variety show they had where nobody even bothered to make sure that the girls spoke English. It's credited with singlehandedly destroying the variety show format.

I voted against Dancing Queen, but not this time. One vote for Chiquitita, please, though I actually think Blondie will win this one in a landslide.

I remember Pink Lady, think I married one...no wait, mine speaks English.

I wound up having to turn off Chuiqitita, it was making my ears bleed.

I saw Blondie perform Heart of Glass at Max's Kansas City before the single was released. If you don't know what Max's Kansas City was, google it. CBGB's and Max's were the two main NY clubs for punk rock in the 70s. Heart of Glass gets my vote in what now becomes my easiest vote to date.

I had never heard of Blondie until I saw them Don Kirschner's Rock Concert...or Midnight Special, I forget which one. It was also before the single was released. Debbie Harry came onstage and said they played a type of music that you didn't hear anymore: Rock and Roll. And they did rock hard! Then the single came out with that ridiculous disco beat to it and I damn near died.

I gotta admit that when I saw Blondie at Max's that I didn't even know who she was. Debby Harry had some bandana or kerchief or something on her head and looked like normal NY city girl. We were going to meet a drummer upstairs and my friend who played bass noticed Chris Stein was using a Fender Precision. The only way I knew it was them was when the single came out and my buddy the bass player recognized the bass line from that day and then we both realized it was the same song.

I love Blondie. If we had one more pick mine would have gone to "Denis". I was kind of bummed because I didn't think they got in this Rock Wars at all, so I am very pleased to see this song. And being up against what might be ABBA's worst song, this is a very easy vote for me.

Heart of Glass

I think my favorite Blondie song is Call Me, which was in the Movie Song TOC, so couldnt be in here. I do like the ABBA song here, no doubt, but Ill go with Heart Of Glass in the end, though really only by a bit (this match to me is much closer than the actual votes would lead to believe).

Don't forget Jeff. Pink Lady would have been nothing without...oh, never mind.

I'll add another vote to the Heart of Glass landslide.

I like ABBA, and even nominated one of thier songs myself, but this song? Not so much.

An easy vote for Debbie Harry and the Gang.

Heart of Glass.

I'll have to go with Chiquitita on this one. I actually nominated Heart of Glass so I have no problem with that song going through at all, but I do have a soft spot for Abba and this is certainly one of their greats.

Both bands have a soft spot in my heart. Neither song is the best of theirs. "Heart of Glass" wins for me.

I'd like to see 'em both move on, so I'll throw my vote in for the underdog.

Chiquitita to advance

Okay, I think Debbie Harry is kind of classless (based on her behavior at Blondie's induction ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), but I'll back her here. Heart of Glass to advance.

Here's a link to the acceptance speeches (http://rockhall.com/inductees/blondie/transcript/blondie-accepts-their-inductio/). I assure you, the words can only hint at the bad blood that exists between Debbie and her former bandmates.
