Hey all. Im trying to set up some characters for a Secret Wars scenario, and Im curious as to what you think of this Molecule Man. (a very tricky character to make, may I add) Feedback is always welcome, but please, Ive already been called CRAZY once today here, so if you need to express such sentiments, try and pick another word. (Its been a while since Ive been called Insane, or Retarded is another goodie).

Molecule Man

Veteran
Flight Base
Point Cost: 175

Damage: 2 2 3 4 2 2 KO KO KO KO KO KO

OK, here goes. The Molecule Man has been described by MANY as one of the most POWERFUL figures in the entire Marvel universe, cosmic entities included. Sure physically he might not be anything overly special (as shown by the overall average Speed and Defense stats) but his powers and their extent are near limitless. Now sure, you couldnt really make THE ULTIMATELY POWERFUL MOLECULE MAN form here on HC, the same way you really couldnt make a Galactus or Eternity, but you could make a form which he can and has represented in the comics over the years. Hope Ive done something like that.

Gave him some Phasing in the beginning and ending of his dial to represent him being able to teleport himself into a battle and out of danger when need be. His Speed stats jump at these points, since hes not really moving on his own, but instead using his powers to transport himself across the field.

For his Attack powers, I gave him a few starting Incapacitates (which are really expensive by the way) to represent how he could summon up the ground, or solidify the air, around a character, or group or characters, to hold them fast. (as he did to Dr. Octopus in the SW) For the rest of his dial I gave him Telekinesis for obvious reasons for anyone who read SW. (can anyone say 640 billion tons of mountain? THUD!!) OK, now Im sure this is where Im going to get most of my disapprovals, his VERY High AVs. Well, the way I see it, he NEEDS to have it this high, since he can pretty much control every molecule over a VAST distance I dont see him missing all too often, especially since most of what he doesnt isnt TO his target, but AT or AROUND his target. A character this powerful needs a High AV (he really didnt have any trouble throwing Ultron at Galactus or lifting up that mountain range) and really, its pretty much the only good stats on him.

Next theres Defense, where I started him off with alittle Super Senses, since he is VERY much in tune to the Universe, and certainly has the ability to, pardon the quote, "sense a disturbance in the Force". He only gets that for a bit, then when trouble is around he starts getting alittle more offensive and helps out his team with erecting the occassional strategic wall from thin air every so often, when and if needed. Then, when things are getting even rougher, he switches on his incredibly powerful force field for his own defense. I chose to represent this with Invulnerability and not ESD since most of the HCs that are made nowadays with such powers are done as such (ex. Insivible Girl and Dr. Doom). I also, again, spiked his stats up here to further represent this very powerful field.

Lastly theres Damage. I gave him Probability Control in the beginning to represent his ability to mess with and control the very cosmic forces of the Universe. He doesnt like a roll, change reality and fix it. More of an assisting your teammate power again, which is how he starts his fights in a group. He then gains Perplex, not really for his keen and savy wit, but more to portray his ability again control things around him and up or lower the abilities of anyone nearby. (now this could also be lost or changed to another power due to his self imposed block that he couldnt effect organic matter, though at the end of SW Doom showed him he in fact COULD, and this is the form Im going with here) The high Damage at this point is definately necessary to show how truly powerful and how much Damage he can inflict when needed. (Again, can we say MOUNTAIN RANGE). Perplexing his own damage here would also help show that. Lastly, when hes either calmed down some or gotten weaker, or both, his Damage goes down, but he gains Outwit. Again, not so much for his talent to outthink others, but more for his ability to effect reality around him and therefore around his targets as well.

His Range is obviously VERY high, but now that Phoenix is coming out with an equal range I think it more than fitting a character with his powers. (He fixed the Beyonder's destruction of a galaxy light years away with just a flick of his fingers) The same reason I gave him the 3 arrows, to represent how much he can control at once. Yes, his point cost is high, but with the powers, arrows and range he has, I think hes well worth it. Keep him in the back lines (where Doom kept him during their battles in SW) and let him assist the other heavy hitters for as long as hes able.

Overall, he has peaks in his stats here and there, and a Very High AV throughout, but overall hes a regular guy.......who happens to be powered by the cosmic forces of the Universe.

Let the YOURE INSANE talk begin. :p

Very astutely done....

I would've made him last a little longer... and on the final click or 2 add regeneration, since he can just absorb the molecules to heal himself which he's done.

Again, very well done.

Thanks for the good word Mr. DP. I actually, I thought people were going to yell at me that I gave him TOO MUCH life clicks at 6. :) Yes, I definately agree with you that he could heal himself with Regeneration, but he could also heal others with Support, or cause the air to explode with EE, or turn invisible and get Stealth. Its tricky making a character that can do so many different things. What I tried to do here was give him powers based not so much on what he could do, but what he has done thus far.

Looks good, except ....
You are WACKED IN THE HEAD! (:D Ha! Didn't see that one coming, did ya???:D )
His DV should be lower I think. Wolvie took him out with one (deflected by cyclops) blow from the old BCF. Other than that I don't really like him having outwit (as he is kind of a dipstick) but I see why you gave it to him.
The only other thing would be to make him U instead of V.
Thanks.... NUTJOB!!:D

(He fixed the Beyonder's destruction of a galaxy light years away with just a flick of his fingers)

When did he do this?

IIRC, at the end of Secret Wars II he was hard-pressed to repair the damage done to the Earth *with* the Silver Surfer's help.

... and I don't recall seeing the Beyonder since.

[Perhaps you're thinking of him directing the beyonder's energy into the creation of a new universe?]

Well yes, he did need the help of the Silver Surfer to fix the damage done to the earth, but that was after he had a full fledged battle with The Beyonder, as did the rest of earths Heroes, and was at nearly the end of his strength. He fixed the galaxy the Beyonger destroyed in the beginning of one of the Secret Wars II books, where the Beyonder was at Owens place, got angry and KABOOM, no more galaxy. (Not ours, one many light years distant) Owen calmed him down, at the same time with a flick of his fingers fixed the galaxy wide damage the Beyonder caused. So you see, MM is major league powerful, though I made his HC alittle more down to earth and better representing what hes like most of the time, to me anyway.

He needs to do more damage. I'd say that a 5 damage is definitely where he would be. Anyone that can actually do well against the Beyonder is gonna swat the Hulk like a fly (I know the Hulk held up a mountain, but if he really wanted to, he could've killed him).
