Ok me and my buddy were play a game last night he nailed a critical hit on my Doomsday character. I rolled the the dice and got a 6 which would make the attack miss.

Does the critical hit cancel out the ability to use this power or does the super power still come into effect. In the case above we just went as the critical hit is unavoidable no matter what.

We go about this correctly?

No, this is a common misconception.

You were correct the first time...

Though your friend rolled a critical success... any Defensive powers you have would stilll come into play, in this case Impervious. You rolled a 6 and avoided the hit.

Actually, no. This is from the most recent (2/14) FAQ update on the website:
Rolling a critical hit means that you hit regardless of what you needed to roll; it does not bypass powers like Super Senses and Impervious, nor does it ignore damage reduction/prevention super powers.
You got hosed!
