Didn't win Starro.
Made it to the finals and was at a stalemate when I got the news that my wife and kid had been evacuated. I made a stupid move and that was it. I really couldn't play anymore. So to make a long story short, yes we are in the middle of all the fires, no our house hasn't burnt to a crisp and yes we just got back into it this morning.
Thanks to the firefighters who have done an amazing job.
I'm just glad to have our stuff.
My team:
Slave GL
Slave Aquaman
Zatanna
Gypsy
Joe Chill Pog
Willpower CotU Pog
There are worse things than losing a Starro tournament.

Good to hear....
My mom and dad live in Rancho Benardo, they were evacuated yesterday and haven't gotten back yet, they are staying with friends and don't have to stay at Qualcom. I regularly call them and the house, as long as the answering machine picks up the house isn't burned down, thank god.

Probablly none of you guys know this...2 years ago Nick, Vickiy and I lost virtually everything in a post 4th of July fire. Very little fire damage, mostly water damage. And then there was the Looters. Imagine not being able to enter the ruined remains of your home for 3 days while the Fire Marshall completes his inspection and when you do get to go back in, you find you've been looted.
So, I can truly say I hate 4th of July and Theives.
Sorry to be so glum! Dave, glad to hear everythings OK!

You cannot have a "team" that's motto is basically "screw everoyne but me". That's a group of individuals, not "team players".
Just thought I'd point that out. :)

Umm, Nick. If you look at the past several postings, nobody has been talking about the "shark thing". The latest rant is over Fallon getting a pre-release and not us.
As far as the sig thing, it is cool that you want to hang on to the Team Vegas thing. As for me, I thought dinosaurs were cool once, but they died out. Some things change over time. ;)
BTW, I just checked and as far as I can see, you and Tim are the ONLY two that have posted recently and still hold on to that old "team" rally cry of "Screw Fellowship". I'm sure Mike and Roland would have it if they ever post. Oh, yeah, Eric probably does too - of course, he only posts once every six months nowadays. I'd have to say that at least 50% of the people on this forum have never heard of Team Vegas and at least 75% don't care (based on the lack of persons carrying the signature line) and I would put the number of persons not supporting "Screw Fellowship" at 90%.

I would say that the number of players that play in Las Vegas has grown, but certainly not the number of players that have any association with "Team Vegas", and even less that hold dear the "Screw Fellowship" banner.
I am definitely not a member of Team Vegas, I would be that 50% that don't know about it, and if being a member means auto-pwning little kids for LE's then count me out.
Just as an update my parents are safely in their home, no problems, yay!

I don't think Team Vegas was that bad. They just had a "play to win" attitude, which isn't always a bad thing. You've seen how Lucky plays. He plays fair, he plays well, and he plays to win. He'll also teach you and help you to set up your team, but when your figs hit the map you better be ready to play. I think where the negativity in all of this is coming in is the differing view points on winning more than one Starro. I think it's better to keep to the facts, and not to start implying negatives that probably aren't there.
And...I'm glad your parents are safe and sound, and hopefully weren't looted.

Although certainly not the best I could be (trade off with living life beyond 'clix'), I do think I am a much better player having battled in this arena for the last two years. For that, I tip my hat to Roland and Team Vegas. While Tim finally beat me and advanced in last week's Kools Starro event, it was not without frustration for him as I employed the game plan of strategic retreat that was drummed into my head a year ago by Roland. Although retreating goes against my nature, I did it and think I could have won if I had not engaged in a battle at the very end. The competitiveness of Team Vegas is not something I object to.
As far as fighting as hard as you can for a Starro, I agree wholeheartedly that one should do so. However, once you have won, unless you have a future game strategy to run a multi-Starro attack team and REALLY need more than one, then trying to win a second, third or fourth simply for the monetary gain goes against the spirit of friendly gamesmanship that I believe is Wizkids’ aim.
I doubt this discussion on fairness or correctness will change until more of the players have matured and taken on the responsibility of fatherhood. As I read the thread from the past week, I notice that there is a strong demarcation between dads and non-dads. Fathers tend to espouse fair play to their children and this is communicated here as well. Note that the five persons that still carry the Screw Fellowship in their sigs – Roland, Mike, Eric, Nick and Tim – are not fathers. Just an observation. ;)
Brian, ditto on the family situation.

Damien Wayne is Bruce Wayne's and Lady Talia's son. Talia is the daughter of R'as Al Ghul(sp?) This was from the classic Son of the Demon one shot that was never confirmed to be "in" continuity until Morrison took over the writing for Batman recently. The mod, and nice one, that Batsentry did was from a future story involving Damien. Right now Damien is still a kid about Robin's age.

Speaking of OLD LE's (and Uniques)...
I have an idea for a cool scenario (I'll admit it, I stole it :o ) that I want to gauge feedback on.
I want to hype this and want a good showing (attendancewise) to make it worth the effort. What this will be is a LARGE Keep what you kill Multi-player scenario. However you will be "killing" the prize LE's, not so much each other.
There will be several prize LE's in boxes on several large maps. You Close combat the box to find out what is inside. If you KO it, you keep it! There will aslo be several other surpirzes on the map as well.
Looking to run this in early November so let me know what the excitement level is for this to see if it is worth it. Looking for 8+ players to show up! When I post it, pre-sign up please!!!!
OK looking to run this (Quoted above) scenario 11/13/07 Tuesday 5:30pm.

Different, yes. Fun, maybe. My cup of tea, no. I prefer my clix like my burgers - no guacamole.
You guys make me sick. Only 10 pages on the Starro events? pa-thet-ic!
I'm not sure where I stand on this. You gentlemen (I use that term loosely, I'm looking at you Jimbo) certainly are passionate about your clix.
I think it's unfortunate some of your feelings were rendered eschewed by the behavior of Team Vegas. I'm only going to address the older players as I feel the newer players, some of them long winded as they may be really don't have the proper perspective to weigh in. My apologies but speaking for myself personally, I don't care what you think. Your opinions are valid and you have the right to express them. Conversely, I have the right to ignore them. Put in your time, learn the game, the environment and local players and I'll start giving gravity to your concerns.
There is a tremendous amount of talent as of late in the Heroclix arena. The fruit of everyones hard work over dozens and dozens of games are starting to harvest. You gentlemen are good and I tip my hat to each of you individually. My congratulations to Roland, Timmy and especially Tyler for competing and winning these events. You guys are the best of the best. Having said that I don't think any of the players or envoys will collectively see eye to eye. That's a reality I'm fine with. I consider myself a casual player. Surprised? I don't at great expense try to complete every set. I don't pour over tomes of clixdom to find strategy. I rarely peruse these boards. I'd say in any given week I consciously spend less than an hour thinking about clix. In fact my greatest thrill (clix derived) is playing Keep What You Kill. Still think I'm not casual?
So what makes me above average? I don't know, luck perhaps? Inherent talent, maybe? It doesn't matter. I don't give much thought to it and neither should you. It just is and it is with Roland and it is with Timmy and so fourth and so on down the line. If you think that our play style is restrictive to new players entering the environment just think of how it will be once you start errecting new barriers.
If it were up to me Jimbo would win fellowship every week. Not because he isn't cut throat but because he's always been nothing but a perfect gentlemen and saint in relation to me? That's just it, in relation to me. I'm sure he's rubbed another player wrong at some point. In that dynamic comes the "Screw Fellowship" attitude. Once you have players competing for who is the nicest chap the willingness to evolve is lost. Worst still, I have to deal with insincere suck arses jockeying for who can suck the envoys pen-is the hardest and longest. Again fellowship is awarded purely due to relation to the envoy. This in my opinion is counter productive.
Flame away.

I have competed in tournaments for some of the above game systems at major conventions held across the United States.
Last year I went to four major conventions (not WW) and put in numerous hours playing and demoing games.
Please don't presume to think that just because you have played a game that has been around five years that you know everything there is to know about gaming and competing. I can speak from a quarter of a century of gaming experience and play about tournament play, design, and attitude.

You gentlemen (I use that term loosely, I'm looking at you Jimbo) certainly are passionate about your clix.
 Hey, Mike, were you looking at me when you used the "gentleman" term loosely or when you were talking about passion for clix?
I consider those among you that know the dials of WAY TOO MANY heroclix figures to be passionate about clix. And those that know exactly which combinations of characters to run from two sealed boosters because you have studied them in extreme detail. I hate when someone knows when NOT to attack me because if the attack is successful, I go from a 7-10-13-2 with charge, super senses and outwit to a 7-11-12-2 with BCF and Imperv. In that manner, I will never be among the most passionate in this game.
My passion for clix is the same as my passion for other things I collect. To wit, Batman and Detective comics nearly complete through 1970 and a large part of the 60s. I have nearly every Hallmark Kiddie Car ever manufactured. I have in excess of 500 Batman related collectibles. My Star Trek poster has nearly 150 autographs from the original series through Enterprise. I can't remember how many 12" and 3-3/4" GI Joes I have in storage and I think at least one of every number in NASCAR in 1:24 scale. I am a passionate collector, yes, but only a casual clixer.
I look forward any time to an opportunity to engage you in a game of clix. You challenge me and I enjoy our encounters. BTW, I am NOT an avid KWYK player, but the other night was a blast. Thanks.

in KWYK from me than anyone else.
3. Tyler
Coming from nowhere in the minds of most to take 2
wins in the Starro toruneys. Both against the #1
player, me! Plus he qualified for the finals at WWLA
this year. When he's played in 2007, he has been
dominant and impressed the voters.
4. Tim
A breakthrough win to take one of the Starro toruneys.
Made it to 2 finals in the Galactus toruneys. Plus a
big win on the road in Chicago during one of the
Starro weeks. A player that shows a willingness to
travel and take on players from anywhere.
5. Jeff
Like in the golf ranking system, current ranking more
of a product of last year's success. Qualifing for
the finals of WWLA in '06 still carries alot of
weight. More wins against the top players last year
than this year. Transitioning to judge has cut his
playing time.
6. Justin
Solid player with a good record when he has the time
to play. Did not show much during the Galactus and
Starro events. Shows a willingness to travel on the
road and has wins and high finishes in AZ at Matt
Eskbrook's home venue. Taking him and Negative Steve
down several times over the past few years.
7. Charles
A rookie with alot of promise. Only had 4 loses
during the Starro championship weekend. All to the #1
player. Ahead of the learning curve for new players.
Will definatly be a threat to move up.
8. Derek
Yeah, he's my boy and has beaten everyone in Vegas
when he lived here. Given some love to my friend.
Won Starro, 2nd for Galactus, has won cons. And again
it is my list.
For those that don't know Dave Willams is Bubblehead (who has a friendly rivalry going on with Rolland) and he was #2 at WWLA this year (loosing to the 2 time champ!)
Derek is from Team Vegas before I joined. Have met both guys and both are cool in my book.
I like his points about Squire and Tyler. Extremely valid!

Flame away.
Mike. I've never had a problem with you, and you were very helpful in my first ever tournament/event (CoG). Since I read this over, and I don't really see it addressed, I'm asking you: Where do you stand on the 1 mega-prize per person. That's what kinda started this whole thing, that some people were really upset that others won more than 1 Starro during the recent event. The Team Vegas/fellowship slant started when Tim made post #1963 in this thread.

Of course none of this is totally official....
Since you asked, this is where I come down on it. Personal feelings aside, think about the logistics involved in enforcing something like what your proposing. So far, to the best of my knowledge, Wizkids doesn't dissuade, prevent or otherwise frown upon this or any other prize "sharking". There is no infrastructure in place to accommodate anything like this. Your talking about a loose network of envoys operating outside of the scope of established Wizkids guidelines to promote a virtue they obviously put second to selling more of there product. They extend a generous and liberal amount of discretion to envoys in that they may have there house rules trump the official ones. I wonder if they would feel the same way after learning of restricting the revenue there company needs to thrive from the most loyal and die hard players who are intricate to there success? Say Jeff is successful in forming his anti-fairness alliance and decrees only one prize per player per year or some other such nonsense, who will subscribe to this? Sci-fi center? Oasis? Kools?
Such a clandestine future seem doomed from the outset.
Furthermore, who does the edict serve? Is one players time more valuable than another? If so, who decides this? I live on the south side of town and as such have to travel far to play at any venue. Justin and Jack have to take the bus to attend events. Assuming we all work and have families, what is the cost to try and scramble after putting in a full work shift to make it over to your favorite venue, support said venue, vendor and envoy, spend 3+ hours on a tournament only to be told your contribution is unwanted?
"No Jack, go home! You won an LE back in April, sorry buddy", declares one anal retentive envoy.
"Sorry Roland, your to good. I know you won the Big Fig this tournie but I'm going to strip away your prize and give it to someone I deem more deserving because they for whatever reason haven't won. "
Isn't that what Fidel Castro did? It seems absurd to make the comparison but seriously, doesn't that sound like income redistribution?
I know Jeff has the X-files like theory floating around about Timmy throwing the tournament to me during the Galactus events because of my financial straits. Could I not make a similar accusation about Jeff currying favor to Tyler via his rulings? Or further follow the rabbit down the hole and say he swapped out his boosters for pre-made ones that contained figs favorable to his playing style? Or course he did not but I can speculate without proof given that Tyler did give him a Starro and they are buddies/family. Ridiculous, yes! Without warrant? Jeff set the precedent.
I'm digressing a bit and I know these scenarios only serve to illustrate my point but the question still remains, who does this serve?
I eagerly await your reply.

You really think Wizkids sees this as income only? What about the resale of figs on the secondary market by soemone who allready has 1 or 2 of the same fig? They don't see any of that money. Mike, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. :)
The way I understood it, WizKids does frown upon it. They tried to set up the CoG finals so they're all at the same time (noon on a Saturday) to prevent people from attending more than 1. A lot of people complained saying that that isn't the time they normally play at, and so a lot of players wouldn't be able to make it to their finals after spending 4 weeks with the heralds. WizKids changed their policy back to where the venue sets the time, because they realized their plan to limit "sharking" was hurting more people than it was helping.
I agree that it would be very difficult to enforce prize restrictions. I also agree that WizKids does allow venues to come up with house rules for their events. However, (and once again this is just a perspective I've picked up from hearing things and reading things, I'm not a judge so I don't know for sure) I'm pretty sure for the CoG and Starro events WizKids was telling the venues to stick to the stricter WizKids guidelines/rules.
I'm not sure how far the other people are taking this, but for me the restriction of one mega-prize per person is all I'm talking about. I was not talking about the regular weekly events with LE figures and other smaller prizes. Those events usually have no buy in, they're free to play. Those LEs are figures that can usually be purchased on the secondary market for less than $50, and often less than $20. What I am specifically suggesting limiting are the larger prizes, such as the Galactus or Starro. These cost hundreds of dollars on the secondary market - and the events have a cost to buy in/play.
I can see where the argument can be made that if one prize is limited, then they should all be limited. But I'm hoping that the other people talking about this are only specifically talking about the mega-prizes, and not the regular weekly prizes.
I think you bring up a good point that hasn't been brought up in here (or if it was, I somehow missed it). What about the venue's point of view in all of this. If I was the venue, and WizKids gave me a Galactus to give away, but the only people who can get it are those who buy boosters and play in 1 game...then I would want as many people playing as possible to maximize my profit. I understand that a venue has to also consider the happiness of their customers, and that they may turn away some customers if they allow "sharking". I also understand that a business is in business to make money, and the more people they have buying boosters for a game the more money they make. And honestly, of the people advocating limiting prizes vs those who are not...who is spending the most money? I'm on the side of limiting, but I rarely buy from stores, I usually buy from Ebay. So I can see where a venue owner would not really want to cater to my preferences.
Again, since I'm only talking about mega-prizes, some of what you said doesn't apply for me. But answering "who does it serve", I would say "the majority of players". From my point of view, there were 5 mega prizes to be given away in Vegas, and if 5 different people had won them then that would maximize the customer base.
I don't think this is really a time issue, because if you know the limiting rule beforehand you should be able to plan your events accordingly. If you already have a favorite venue, wouldn't you be most likely to try to win the mega-prize there? If you already won a mega-prize but wanted to support your venue, would it be so bad to go and play anyway (with the knowledge that even if you won you wouldn't get the mega-prize)?
If everyone knew going into the tournament that they could only win 1 prize, wouldn't knowing ahead of time help you to plan on where you were going to play? It wouldn't be a surprise, and someone wouldn't say "give it back, you already won", because that is a rule that everyone would know ahead of time. I don't think anyone is saying to retroactively take the prizes away; I think we're talking about what to do in the future, if they ever offer such large prizes again.
So, in future games with figures that everyone knows will cost hundreds of dollars to buy if they don't win them - how do you feel about limiting those prizes to one per person? I'm not saying limiting the amount of tournaments you can enter to win the prize...just that once you've won one, you can't win any more.

So, I just now had a chance to look at the M&M preview pieces.
Beast. Thought his Charge and continue was cool until I saw his 9 Attack and 2 Damage. Next!
Box. I like that regen ability. Probably good that it is once per round. Yikes!
Cuckoo. Ah, the innocent Catholic school girl look. That has to be worth something. Not sure what, but something!!! Maybe use a bunch for cheerleaders.
Dark Beast. Now, this guy looks cool. Of course, with my rolls, I need more life than this guy has on his dial. :(
Green Scar. What can I say? Mega testosterone. 230 points. You know who is going on my team. Oh, yeah, one green guy and a little girl wearing plaid.
Hulkbuster. Not quite Green Scar calibre, but how can you go wrong with Iron Man on steroids?
Mimic. For someone else, he may be fine. I won't play him just because he looks a little 'odd'. ;) Perhaps I'll mod a green plaid skirt onto this one.
Morph. Is it true what they say about the size of a guy's hands? I see this as a 'Jack' piece because of all that Shape Change. You know how Jack loves that Skrull garbage.
Prof X. This one looks cool to me. I like that Cerebro thing. Whats with the fingers in his ears tho? Maybe I'll add a couple of cheerleaders to his base.
Rampaging Hulk. Okay, but I like the other green guy better.
ZZZAX. I like this guy, but who the he!! is he? I thought ZZZAX was the guy who carved the number of kills into his body.

I dont think so.
I read it as 8 or more = LE
Less than 8 = prizes during marketing/promo events only.
Overall
• There are now three different kinds of events: Casual Events, Competitive Events, and Premier Events.
• Additional “rewards” and “prizes” will be available, based on recorded
participation in WizKids events.
No problem here. Three types of events. Prizes are event based...
2a. What is a Casual event?
A Casual event is an event with less than 8 people; or an event with no Judge; or a pickup/league game between two or more people at an approved venue. Many present ‘venue supported’ events would fall under this category, and the majority of all current WizKids organized play events qualify as Casual events.
While the “rewards” for a Casual event are not as involved as for other WizKids events, the results are every bit as valid.
90% of the events I attend are now casual. Ok...now what "rewards"...
2b. What is a Competitive event?
A Competitive event is a tournament with 8 or more players run by a qualified Judge separate from the Event Organizer. Many (but not all) Competitive events will additionally be WizKids Supported Events; meaning that WizKids may provide additional prize support, typically in the form of Limited Edition (LE) game pieces.
Ok, so only competitive events are WK supported events.
3. Is Prize Support Still Free?
Prizes for WizKids-Supported events (those events scheduled according to a specific “template” presented as part of the monthly event season) will still be available as they have been in the past.
Other events may have expanded prize support, based on additional
qualifications such as size of the event, participation in special marketing programs, and special promotional events (to name just a few)
More than 8....LE. (A WK supported event)
Less than 8 (not a WK supported event)...maybe, but only when in marketing/promo mode. Otherwise, not likely.
Sounds pretty clear to me.....Unless you get 8 or better...no guaranteed prize support...
Shield001
11/01/2007, 17:35
yes but
WizKids-Supported events (those those events scheduled according to a specific “template” presented as part of the monthly event season
it does not say that casual games cannot be scheduled in such a way.
so you can have a casual WK supported event.
Thats also why they say being downgraded from competitive to casual is not a penalty. No LE would be a penalty....
Also it just says that all competitive events are WK events it does not say that all casual events are not WK events. Some will be if posted correctly to their guidelines...
on the same token if you and a friend play a game at your local store you wont be sent an LE when the even gets reported. You will get rank points or whatever they are going to call it.
squirecam
11/01/2007, 17:45
Thats also why they say being downgraded from competitive to casual is not a penalty. No LE would be a penalty....
Competitive events are Rated and Ranked, with a rewards system based on the number of participants. An event that is scheduled as a Competitive event, but does not attract at least 8 players (as described in the Organized Play Program document), will be reclassified as a Casual event. THIS IS NOT A PENALTY, but rather a recognition that
not all events carry the same “weight” within the system.
Let me restate this...
Competitive events = rewards based upon # of players. We recognize that casual play <8. We know this takes away your LE, but we are not "penalizing you'...just we are only "rewarding" larger groups.
Note to all : Anytime someone says:
1) "This is not a penalty"... it is a penalty.
2) "It's not you... it's me." It was you.
3) "I mailed it last week"... I'll mail it next week.
4) "We have to let you go."....Your fired !!!

venue supported = venue provides prize
WK supported = WK may give LE in addition to any venue prize.

If casual always = LE prizes, under the casual events it would have stated you get an LE.
But that was reserved for Competitive events.
Casual events are NOT classified as WK supported. If they are not WK supported, they will NOT generally get an LE...

While this may seem confusing, it is an important distinction to the database as to how your event is treated. Further, the “separation” is necessary to accommodate Competitive and Premier event sanctioning, which will be available in the near future. In all respects, the two types of events (venue-supported and casual) are exactly identical, and will set up your event with the default characteristics for the chosen game line. Casual Event (as described in the recent WizKids OP Program announcements) is considered to be the “default” status of any newly scheduled organized play event.
From the new post...
Casual = VENUE supported event

FYI, at the WK Judges Forum, judges from around the world (one posting from Norway) are as confused as you are. :tired:
I think that they are going to expand their prize support to cardboard and event dials for Casual events and give out LE's for Competitive events in addtition to the cardboard and dials. That's what I get out of it, it's almost a way to prevent the misuse of LE's being handed out to one or two people that show up, also it forces the Venues to account for the WK supported prizes, i.e. less LE's showing up on ebay by stores.
To be honest I prefer stuff like cardboard and event dials that can be handed out as prizes, less sharking involved and they make the game fun again. LE's are restrictive for usage, keywords and availability.

yeah sure......
All that is going to do is raise the price of LEs and make more of them show up on ebay just because they are valuable since I'm guessing most venues dont get more than 8 players ...
it will probably mean we will have to change the times of our venues tourneys so 8 people can make each one.
I still hope they don't restict LE's that much, or if they do I hope they all suk.
batsentry57
11/02/2007, 15:46
it will probably mean we will have to change the times of our venues tourneys so 8 people can make each one.
The dates and times already vary - no two conflict. The problem is that we all have unique timing needs and having the number of venues that we do only allows for fitting into the lifestyles of our "not so rich and famous" players. If we deleted two venues and condensed to one (since Kools is already going the way of the dodo), the one venue's time slot still could not accommodate everyone's particular needs and the venue would most likely STILL get fewer than 8 players and be relegated to "casual" play w/o an LE. If WK does away with prize support for "casual" gaming, non-supported nights are already lightly populated, so I can see perhaps attendance dropping to one or two die-hard players, which will become tiresome and kill group gaming here. If players are going to play for no chance at an LE, why not stay home and play with friends and have no LE support rather than spending money for gas?

I've been wanting to set up something at my house for casual play the past two years, but it has not materialized. I'll keep trying to set something up though for some Saturday (so you'll have no excuse!).
Sorry to hear about your dog Jim, and your wife's car.
Like I've said before somewhere if you play the game just to get LE's then maybe you should reprioritize why you play the game in the first place. I care not for LE's, sure it's a collectable game, but I try to reign in my "Gotta catch 'em all" emotions, usually quite well too. If the venues have to cough up eight solid true existing players to get the LE's or "good" LE's this will prevent venues getting free ####e from WK, just because they are an approved venue, to turn around and automatically put the LE's up on ebay. When I see ebay stores listing LE's it just sickens me because I know they are either, running events and giving away carpy prizes or not running events at all and auto listing the LE's for pure profit at WK's expense. I do have to admit it's a slap to the judges' face if they have to run 8 man events in order to be eligible for compensation. I'm the Demo Coordinator for Dark Age Games, we pay out $7.50 per hour in product to our demo guys for their effort, regardless the amount of players they demo to.
As for shrinking down the venues, in theory it's a good idea, to be honest the 12pm on sat at Kools was the best time and place for me, so it's looking like I may stop playing after all because of lack of a convinent venue to participate at.:( This reflects nothing against all the other judges btw, just time and location.

This was my point about the venues and shrinking the pool. All players have time constraints. Kools catered to a particular group. By going out of business, that group will not migrate to another venue to continue playing. If two other venues discontinue running games, those players frequenting the closed venues would likewise not migrate. So, in the end, there could be only one venue, but still with only fewer than the requisite 8 for LE support. Ergo, all venues should continue to run games as this won't affect any venue/judge from receiving LE support and this will allow the maximum number of players to pick a convenient venue.
Gotta run now. Friday night fights at Sci Fi Center start in an hour.

This is NOT a contest. :classic: I never heard anything about you wanting to take over the Saturday noon slot and just thought it would be nice if someone filled that void - I was just offering my services for the good of the group. You can have it if the players from Kools want to go to LSOM - makes no difference to me since I do have other things to do on the weekend. If the players need a place more centrally located, then the Sci-Fi Center is the more logical venue location for that time slot to cater to the largest segment of the Clix population. If it turns out that the group would prefer that scene, I am willing to be present and would certainly welcome joint judge participation to allow more flexibility in my schedule.
It would be nice to hear comments from the group so the best solution for this gaming community can be determined.

While it is the Envoy's job to promote HC and other WK games, I don't understand your position. On the one hand, you want to be the kingpin of Saturday noontime gaming and one player mentions he would like gaming on Tuesdays at 6 PM and then you are willing to hold on to that slot if he'll come play in your sandbox. Unless you've made a pact with WK or the devil, this won't work. I'm going to reread the Envoy description - I don't recall it saying someone has to become a prostitute for WK. True for you and Brian. Apparently works for Justin (Shield001) as well. I don't think Saturdays at LSOM works for the Mute of Wintre, but he has yet to chime in. The Sat noon thing does not appear to help Punk Rabbit either, but Sat at either location is a moot point. Since others tend to be silent, the preponderance of evidence tends to favor that LSOM should be the new Sat noon location and I am fine with that as I never had an intention to step on anyone's toes. Of course, that still does not address how Jeff plans to run both Tuesday night and Saturday noon events in the same week.
I do note though, that I owe Bats and cheese-dust a whipping.....

... the Mute of Wintre, but he has yet to chime in.
It's almost winter....I'm practicing.
Here's my situation: I live near the intersection of Flamingo and Maryland Parkway.
Sunday night through Friday Afternoon I probably won't make much of anything.
Friday evening (after dinner) through Sunday afternoon are the only possible times I would be able to make it to something. Even on the weekends I may get called in to fix a problem (one of the "perks" of being the boss).
So for me, the closest place that has a time I can make it is the most likely location I would attend (how Kool's thus fit the bill).
However, as full as my schedule is, and as much as 10 weeks of Galactus/Starro wore me down, don't depend on me as being a regular anywhere except here in these forums. I'm going to start trying to make more events, but at the same time I haven't played clix at home with my friends since Galactus began.
I agree with Cam of the Squire, there does appear to be a lot of sniping going on here. It's almost Thanksgiving, let's start being thankful.

Bat of the Sentry57 ,
LSOM work for me but transportation is an issue for me. Old Jeff may like bussing it all over town but its not my cup of tea.
Seriously, though if I had the day off I could go to either one but I know I can't get Saturday off regularly. LSOM is on the way to work thats why I could make a noon game there on Saturday.
We got some new previews for M+M here (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?&t=213372)
all the Pogs feats + BFCs + 2 figures ShaterStar and Ahab
Ahab has RS and built in trick shot with Psy-Blast but his stats are average (:m-boot:8 :a-fist: 9 :d-normal: 17 :g-starburst: 2 :bolt: 8)
some very cool feats nice and cheap
11 point pog with outwit....! of THANK GOD it requires a power action for him to use it, however on a 1 brick tentpole team he will be usefull since you probably wont be useing all your actions anyway....
I'm back on a 9 to grind schedule so I'll probably start heading on back to Oasis to support QuietStorm.

I just did my last Friday night gig, unless WK mandates another weekend only type event series. I'm moving to Wednesday night. The first deal is the NGN/M&M Sealed on 11/28.
Kool's is not closing anytime soon. Karl said that the deal may not go through after all. I think it's safe to say that kool's is good through Nov, maybe even Dec.

Yes, Big Barda & Mr. Miracle, Hulkbuster AND Mimic CAN CANCEL Green Lantern 796, Weapons as big as the fight and Mimicry-Respectively (thereby cancelling Super Strength and droping said object). This was talked about on the BB & MM thread.

DC on the other hand rocked my sox.
These Marvel sets just don't do that much for me. Very limited in the "wow" factor. Although I freely admit that the X-men brand has done very little to whet my appetite for almost a decade now. Just not that interesting......except for Morrison's run on New X-men but Marvel retconned that to death for the nosesnubbing he did to them.

I can't believe I did this - I missed the cut-off for setting up December events at Sci-Fi Center. The last time I looked there was a week left and then, poof, the time was gone. I'll discuss setting up venue supported events with William. As far as WK supported events, we'll see how having one less venue available affects attendance overall and the corrsponding prize support. Sorry about that guys.

Dear WizKids,
Much like you forgot to include cards, figures or bases in some of your boosters...Similar to the way you didn't notice that the dial on the Avengers set wasn't up to snuff...In the vein of delaying sets and keeping the new stuff secret until the last moment...I, BatSentry57, missed the cut-off for setting up December events and the Sci-Fi center.

"Since there has been concern over this issue I want to clear up some confusion.
• Those events set up as a WizKids supported event will remain just that; “WizKids supported”.
• Properly setting up a Wizkids supported event will generate an order for the support for the event regardless of how many participants the event ends up having.
• This is the same as it has always been and is not affected, in any way, by the event’s end rating and ranking structure.
• Events which have fewer than 8 players are to be rated and ranked as casual play events.
• The difference is in ratings and rankings; this means that larger events, with more players, will be rated at a higher level.
• “Casual” events do not “take away” support.
• Casual events actually give venues, envoys and players a way to have rated casual or “pick up” games. Consider them as a far more flexible version of “Venue Supported” events which now includes rating and rankings."

A questoion about LSOM NGN 11/27: a M&M Sealed Booster event is being run at the same time... are those two seperate events or do we need to play in the M&M sealed event for NGN?
Well, the Envoy (ME) is supposed to be running TWO events at the same time.
One is the M&M sealed event.
The other is a New Guy Night Demonstration if any New Guys show up.
In my Almost 3 years of supported events, I have never seen any Envoy run a Demo Durring a New Guy Night. Not that they (or me for that matter) refuse to, no one "NEW" showed up to have a Demo.
I won't be able to read these forums until after tonights event for any kind of answer from you. I PM'd you my Phone Number in case you need it.
Hope the above answered your question.

So please plan on running the demo ;)

This part I dont like.
So I play in competitive tournaments. Do well. Get a ranking and all that.
Then comes 4 weeks of venue play.
Do I play the DD squad...knowing that by doing so I wont win as much (or at all)...or do I bring a power squad.
If my win/loss matters...then forget "fun" teams. I dont see many mis-matched fun teams NOW, let alone after rankings start...

Ok...
But right now people use t-bolts, ICWO, protected, etc. And no rankings are affected by the w/l.
I see this system favoring competitive play, and hurting fun teams, of which there is already very little.
Can anyone think of the last, pure fun team, that you played in a weekly event. One designed purely for fun or laughs or comic accuracy, but really standing no shot of winning??

You had me up until you said no shot of winning...
fun or laughs or comic accuracy does not have to equal no shot at winning.
My 300 point T-bolt team was comic accurate.
Granted they did not start really useing bullseye until after Mach 4 and Techno left. And Cit V = Baron Zemo.
with the point constraints a little stretching had to be done.
Jak usually runs comic accurate theme teams.
Now I admit I have not done that in a while but I was also also trying to playtest some keyword teams.
However you are right we usually dont play "fun/silly" or comic accurate theme teams.
I don't think the Rankings are going to increase the competiveness we already have (at least as far as Vegas goes, maybe every one else will increase the "cheese" to get higher rank  )

Actually, I disagree.
We have an "avengers Zemo", as well as earlier versions. Sure, with that Zemo, your team is probably weaker. But more accurate. And a team that is playable as "fun".

Yep. I know I'm a good player. I don't need a "variable" as a ranking to tell me that.
Plus.......how can Wizkids really "check" these stats???? I mean seriously. There's going to be some nerd out there that is going to be playing the same 8 people (or 4 people with padded names) that's going to be ranked high. There's no verification on these things and thusly can't be taken seriously.

They have only two players registered and I'm thinking they purposely don't want anyone else showing up. One of those in-house, in-breeding things. The square you currently occupy is NOT adjacent to itself. If a power or effect requires you to be adjacent to something (notably, an object), occupying the same square as that something is NOT the same as being adjacent to it.
There are a number of things that this clarifies/changes based on your point of view.
Powers
- Telekinesis – you cannot TK an object that is in the square you are occupying. You can only TK objects that are adjacent to you.
Rulebook
- Destroying objects – this acts as destroying blocking terrain (as per the rulebook). You can draw a line of fire to your square (if you have range greater than 0), but you cannot attack your own square with a close combat attack, you can only attack adjacent squares.
Feats
- Nanobots – you can only use the feat if you are adjacent to an object, not if you are occupying the same square as the objects.
- Disintegrate – you cannot remove an object that is in the square you occupy.
Special Objects
- Separation Field Generator – you can only drop objects in adjacent squares, not the one you occupy.
Special Powers
- Phantom Girl/Disruption – specifies that it works on objects in the same square as Phantom Girl.
- Mr. Mxyzptlk/Object Animation – specifies that it works on objects that are being occupied by opposing characters.
- Firestorm/Matter-Energy Transmutation – when placing objects as a result of using option (2) of this power, the objects would need to go in squares adjacent to the original targeted object.
- Box/Assimilation – Box needs to be adjacent to an object, he cannot occupy the square.
- Arcade/Deathtrap – if a character occupies the square of the object Arcade has selected to remove, it would not be dealt damage.
I’m fairly confident that these are the mechanics where this question would come up. Obviously, I’m here to follow up on any specifics I may have missed.
On a related topic, the question of Toro’s Firewall power came up – “Can I put all 4 squares of Smoke Cloud in the same square?” – The answer to that is no, as you need to put them in adjacent squares. What’s more, the properties wouldn’t “stack”. Each square is either s square with Smoke Cloud terrain or is not.

Even more rules to chew on...
BATTLEFIELD CONDITIONS
THE GREAT ARENA
Any successful attack roll resulting in doubles is a critical hit
DEEP SHADOWS
Treat all non-blocking terrain as hindering terrain for line of fire purposes. Characters with range values greater than 6 have range values of 6 instead, and range values can't be modified to a value more than 6. All powers, abilities, and effects able to affect characters more than 6 squares way instead affect characters up to 6 squares away.
The slightly different wording indicates that as long as the power, ability or effect does not affect a character, the 6 square maximum would not apply. Notably, this would affect using TK to move an object (not attack with it).
KRAKOA THE LIVING ISLAND
Once at the end of each player's turn, he or she can choose a target opposing character adjacent to an unoccupied square of outdoor hindering, blocking, or elevated terrain and make an attack roll with an attack value of 9 and a damage value of 2 against the target; the target can't be knocked back by the attack. If the attack succeeds but the character target takes no damage from the attack and has zero or one action token, give the target an action token.
The adjacency of this BFC is in terms as defined in the rulebook for adjacent squares. "Character" adjacency - which typically depends on elevation - is not required. Therefore, a grounded character can be attacking using this BFC by being adjacent to elevated terrain. An elevated character can be attacked if their square is adjacent to a grounded square of hindering or blocking terrain.
No character is making this attack, so even if Probality Control was available, there is no character to target to re-roll. It is still an attack though, so Super Senses and Toughness would work just fine. The character can also roll for Shape Change. If they are successful, the BFC can be used to attack a different qualifying target.
MALICE
At the end of each player's turn, if none of his or her characters made an attack against an opposing character, that player chooses a friendly character and deals it 1 unavoidable damage.
First turn immunity would still apply for this feat.
By "attack" the BFC is referring to actual attacks, not just situations that result in damage. Think of it this way - was Super Senses something that could have altered the result? That, then, would be an attack.
FEATS
STREAK OF LUCK
Cost: 5
Prerequisite: {Standard Attack} {Standard Damage}
Choose a character.
Each time an attack roll fails against the character, put a luck token on this card if there are fewer than three tokens on this card.
If there are luck tokens on this card when the character makes a critical miss, the characteris not dealt unavoidable damage; after the attack is resolved, remove all luck tokens from this card. If there are luck tokens on this card when the character makes a critical hit, modify the character's damage value by +X, where X equals the number of luck tokens on this card; after the attack is resolved, remove all luck tokens from this card.
Only the "final" roll is examined to determine if a token should be placed on this card. If Probability Control is used, only the final roll determines if the attack was successful or not.
If a character has Super Senses and rolls a 5 or 6 after a successful attack roll, a token would not be placed on the card. The attack missed, but the attack roll was successful.
A failed Support roll against this character would cause a token to be put on the card.
If EE is successful against the main target and unsuccessful against this one, a token would not be put on this card.
TERRIFY
Cost: 6
Prerequisite: Battle Fury or Incapacitate or Mind Control
Modifier: {Standard Attack} -1
Choose a character.
Give the character a power action and make a single close combat attack as a free action (the attack deals no damage). Compare the result to the defense values of all adjacent opposing target characters, maximum four targets. Each target against which the attack succeeds is knocked back a number of squares equal to half its speed value (targets are not dealt knock back damage). If the attack roll is doubles and succeeds against the target, also give an action token to the target if it has zero or one action tokens (the target is not dealt pushing damage for this token).
If there are more than 4 adjacent opposing characters, targets need to be selected prior to the attack roll. When the attack is successful, each character hit moves away its own speed value, not the speed value of the attacker.
INSIDE INFORMATION
Cost: 4
Prerequisite: The character must have at least one keyword.
Choose a character.
When the character attacks an opposing character that has any of the keywords possessed by the character, modify the character's attack value by +2.
The +1 modification only applies to the attack roll against the target character.
MONSTER HUNTER
Cost: 3
Prerequisite: {Standard damage}
Choose a character.
Modify the character's attack value and damage value by +1 when it is given a close combat or ranged combat action targetting a character with the {Giant damage} or {Colossal damage} damage symbol or the Monster keyword.
If the character targets multiple characters, the +1 attack applies only to qualifying characters. The +1 damage would mean that if both characters were hit, at least 1 damage from the nodified damage value would need to be applied to the qualifying target. This, to me, is the most consistent ruling with what we already know of powers such as Ultimate X-Men. I will be taking this back to WK to get clarification.
OUTSMART
Cost: 10
Prerequisite: Mastermind or Outwit
Choose a character.
When a power possessed by the character or an adjacent friendly character would be countered by an opposing character's power or ability, you and the opposing character's controller each roll 2d6. If your result is more, the power is not countered instead.
Ties are not rerolled - the cards wording indicates that the targetted character needs to roll higher in order for the countering to take place.
After the roll is complete, regardless of the result, the Outwitting character has used Outwit this turn.
These rolls are made by the players, not the figures, therefore they can not be probability controlled.
This feat would activate any time a player's powes are countered, regardless of the source of the countering.
TAKEDOWN
Cost: 6
Prerequisite: Incapacitate or Plasticity
Choose a character.
If an opposing character makes an unsuccessful close combat attack against the character, after the action is resolved give the opposing character an extra action token if it has zero or one action tokens. If the opposing character already had one action token on it, giving it a second action token deals pushing damage normally.
The extra token is applied to the attacking character at the same time that action tokens are normally placed on the acting character.
WARBOUND
Cost: 5 per character on your force with the chosen keyword.
Prerequisite: A single, common keyword.
Choose a keyword. All characters on your force that have the keyword are assigned this feat.
When a target friendly character assigned this feat is given an action, instead of giving it an action token, you can give the action token for the action to an adjacent friendly character that has the chosen keyword, has zero action tokens, and has a point value equal to at least half of the target's point value.
Assuming all of the other requirements are met, a 150 point character can have their token placed on a 75 point character (or higher). Similarly, a 100 point character can have their token placed on a 150 point character (since it is more points than the necessary 50). My point is that there is no restriction that one character has to be more points than the other.
In order for the adjacent character to receive the token, it must be clear of tokens at the time the token is assigned.
SHOCKWAVE
Cost: 8
Prerequisites: {Standard Attack}, Quake
Choose a character.
Give the character a power action. Make a single attack roll and compare the result to the defense values of all adjacent opposing characters. Characters against which the attack succeeds are dealt no damage, but are knocked back 4 squares.
Knock back damage would apply as normal.
Characters that ignore knock back would not be affected by a successful attack with this feat.
PROTECTED
Cost: 8
Choose a character.
(Optional) If the character does not already have two action tokens on it, damage dealt to the character as a result of a single action is ignored. After that action is resolved, give the character an action token and remove this feat from the game. If the character already had one action token on it, giving it a second action token deals pushing damage normally.
SPECIAL OBJECTS
ELEHA'AL VINE (LIGHT)
Give a character occupying the same square as this object a power action. Roll a d6 and subtract 4 from the result, minimum result 1. Heal the character of damage equal to the result.
SHIELD DISRUPTOR (LIGHT)
Damage dealt to characters 4 or fewer squares from this object can't be reduced.
TOMBSTONE (HEAVY)
Continual The defense value of a character carrying a Tombstone is modified by +2. After the resolution of an unsuccessful attack against a character carrying a Tombstone, remove Tombstone from the game.
SPECIAL POWERS
Arcade
Deathtrap Once per turn as a free action, Arcade can remove from the game any object 10 or fewer squares from Arcade to which he has a clear line of fire and deal 1 damage to each character adjacent to the object.
Objects that are being carried cannot have a line of fire drawn to them.
Occupying the same square as an object is not being adjacent to it (see my recent post "Objects and Adjacency (http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?p=1528935)")
Murderbots Give Arcade a power action. Choose up to two standard objects 10 or fewer squares from Arcade to which he has a clear line of fire when he is given the action, and move each object as if it were a character that has Arcade's speed value.
Questions about break away, moving through hindering terrain, and so on, should all be resolved by answering the question - "how would it be ruled if it were a character?"
Box
Mass Absorption When Box occupies hindering terrain, he has the (Giant) symbol.
At the start of an action, if Box is in hindering terrain he is a giant for the entire action. If he leaves hindering terrain, he remains a giant until the action is over. If he enters hindering terrain mid action, he does not become a giant until the action is over.
Assimilation Box can use Toughness. Once per round, when Box is adjacent to an object, as a free action you can remove the object from the game and heal Box of 2 damage.
See my other post regarding "Objects and Adjacency (http://forum.wizkidsgames.com/showthread.php?p=1528935)" for more details, but in order for Box to use this power, he must be adjacent to an object - it would not apply to an object in the square he is occupying.
Cuckoo
Hive Mind When Cuckoo is given an action, you can modify one of her combat values (including range) by +1 until the end of the round for each other Cuckoo adjacent to her.
"Adjacent Cuckoos" includes opposing Cuckoos.
The bonus must be given to Cuckoo when an action is given to her - not during the action and not when the action resolves. Therefore, if Cuckoo moves, she needs to modify her combat value before she leaves adjacency and would not be able to increase it based on a character she is adjacent to at the end of her move.
Cuckoo is only allowed to modify one combat value. That value can be modified as per the rule of three based on the number of adjacent Cuckoos. She may not distribute the bonus to different combat values based on multiple adjacent Cuckoos.
Each heroclix game is played in rounds. During round 1, there is a "beginning of round", and then it is player 1's turn. The have a "beginning of turn", they have a time when actions are assigned and resolved, and then an "end of turn". Then player 2 does the same thing. Then there is the "end of the round." The process repeats itself with a new "beginning of round" and player 1's turn again. The Cuckoo bonus lasts until the end of the round. Yes, this gives Player 1 a bit of an advantage as they can modify defense effectively while player 2 cannot.
Hulkbuster
Flight Stabilizers Hulkbuster can use Charge and Running Shot. Hulkbuster is adjacent to a giant character only when he is within 1 square of it.
Giants and Adjacency currently have 4 basic things:
1 - A giant must break away from a character when 2 squares away.
2 - A standard chracter must break away from a giant 2 squares away.
3 - A giant can close combat a character 2 squares away.
4 - A stnadard character cannot close combat a giant 2 squares away.
The last sentence of Flight Stabilizers alters #2 above.
The Leader
Minions of the Leader The Leader can use Mastermind and Toughness. When the Leader uses Mastermind, he can treat any friendly character 4 or fewer squares away to which has a line of fire as if it were adjacent.
When The Leader is hit with an attack, the damage is going to be dealt to him. At this time, he can choose to use Mastermind. If he chooses not to use Mastermind, then the damage is dealt to him and thereby reduced by 1 due to Toughness.
Rampaging Hulk
Squash The Rampaging Hulk can use Leap/Climb. Immediately after the resolution of a move action in which the Rampaging Hulk uses Leap/Climb, he can use Quake as a free action.
As per the latest E&C, whenever Quake is used and the character is holding an object, the object is not used in the attack.

Actually, I disagree.
We have an "avengers Zemo", as well as earlier versions. Sure, with that Zemo, your team is probably weaker. But more accurate. And a team that is playable as "fun".
Thats just it, Baron Zemo was Cit V in disquise when the T-bolts started.
Now he droped it when they got exposed but it was still Zemo.
And as for the team being weaker I think it would have done just as well. I really like the Baron Zemo we got in Avengers. I would have used the E Mach 3 instead of V Mach 4, and the the only chage would have been the team haveing 4 RS instead of 3 RS and a Charge.
 maybe next time I will try that out...
but thats beside the point
The same group of players has been hanging around for a while and I don't think I have seen the competitiveness level change. People have gotten better at team building but as far as the lvl of "cheese" it has not changed (of course they have balanced the game out a bit so there is less of it...).

I think after Crisis, WK should take 30 days off. In that time, re-write the rules so that they make SENSE.
Then put these new rules in a new FF starter.

Unused SWA voucher to fly anywhere - FREE. :) :) :)
Son attending UNR w/vehicle - gas for 120 R/T less than $20. :)
Cheaper than gas for R/T to LA - probably 40 gallons at $3/gallon, or $120. :disappoin
Of course, the biological scenery in LA is most likely better than Fallon's. :disappoin :disappoin

Well, congrats to a well-deserving player who conquered Comic Oasis last night, for a tourney win...
Me !!
I ran
Batman (1 mil)
Flash (1 mil)
Dream Girl
Mano
Colonel Logan
Deathlok
Phantom Girl
Ravage
Justin ran an Amazo based Robot squad, with Ghost Rider and others. And two Firelord teams made an appearance as well.
Eric had a team of Firelord, paramedic, JLA Batman, Merlyn, Green Arrow, Scarlet Witch, and a TKer. His team beat me but it was close, could have gone either way.
Note - no games at Comic Oasis until NGN....
