Just to make sure, when a lantern names a specific power, take the Yellow Lantern for instance:

Characters within 4 squares of this object that can use Exploit Weakness or Penetrating/Psychic Blast modify their attack values by +1

The character doesn't need to have specifically Psychic Blast on their dial showing right? It can be a special power, like Metron's, that says:

The Price of Knowledge: Metron can use Quake, Psychic Blast, and Pulse Wave.....

Correct? As long as the character can use the required ability named on the object card whether it's a SP with that ability as one of a few or that specific power on their dial they still gain the use of the lantern?

That's fine. He can use the power.

Another question about the Lantern objects.

Everyone (within range) benefits from them right? So if I have Blue Lantern on my force and my opponent uses Barrier within 4 squares of it they get the +2 range, correct?

And this is still true even if someone on my force is carrying the Lantern?

yeah because it is continual

Also if you and your opponent use the same lanterns and you're within range of both you gain both bonuses. So if you're both using yellow lanterns, the character within range of both lanterns that meets the requirements gains a +2 attack instead of +1

Yeah, that is what I thought. My judge was leaning towards only the force that is "using" them benefits, especially if they are holding it. The wording deosn't indicate that at all so I think he was just going off his gut. It never really came up during a game though.

Really?!?!?

I think this from page 18 of the rulebook covers pretty succinctly.

"Regardless of which player places a special object, any player can use its abilities, and all players are subject to its effects."

I meant the wording doesn't indicate that my judge was right (only the player who has the lantern on his force benefits). Plus, we were only looking at the wording on the lantern object cards. It was a casual discussion brought up before or after a tournament and it never came up during a game because no situation arose where an opponent could of/should of benefited from an opponent's lantern. We didn't even look in the rulebook because, as I said, it was a causal discussion and my judge just said, "I would think it works like this, but I'm not sure." And we left it at that.

Also, now that I think about it, I am pretty sure my judge got it right at a later date. But again, this situation has never come up in a game, to my knowledge.

Keep in mind that the Blue Lantern only increases range when the character uses Barrier. (Not generally like the Yellow Lantern.)

From the Player's Guide:
BLUE LANTERN
Blue Lantern’s effect only increases range values when using Barrier.

Correct.

A follow-up on the yellow lantern.

If you have an opponent turtling next to a yellow lantern for the bonus, if you base them do they still get the +1 bonus for Psychic Blast.

I realize that card infers "posseses" but does not specify, "can use."

Just looking to see if there has been any clarification...thnx!

That is a wonderful question.

I think something similar came up on aa different mechanic before.

My gut is telling me that there'd be no bonus because he can no longer use PPB due to not being able to make any ranged attack.

That said, I doubt that is the case.

normalview has stated that the bonus from the yellow lantern would still apply. (See this thread (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=280365).) If that's not going to be the answer, let us know. :)

Thanks for the rapid responses all.

While I disagree with the ruling (in spirit), I accept that it is consistent.

Nah...that works for me. Thanks
