Okay boys and girls, here we have 128 of our favorite songs from the 70's, from some of our favorite artists, which will be pitted against one another, Match by Match, Round by Round, weeding them all out until they get to the FINAL MATCH, which will have our two favorite showtunes face against one another to see which one emerges as Grand Champion of our latest Rock Wars!

As always, this TOC should be voted using a very simple criteria, which song do YOU like more, which do YOU feel you would rather listen to, and which would YOU say is ultimately more deserving to move on. Easy.

Pretty basic really. Songs are matched up, you all vote on the one you like more, the winner goes to the Next Round, and we do this over and over again until the Rounds are Over. I do ask that you all give objective opinions and votes here, listening to all songs and arguments here within this TOC with an open mind, beginning to end, and base your honest votes from that.

You know the drill by now, as always I ask that you please listen to each song again with each new match before voting. Thanks all.

So without further adieu, let’s get started with the Next match of many matches to come, in HCRs latest Rock Wars, Favorite 70's Song!

I now give you:

BEHIND BLUE EYES
(The Who) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaekgRtsTiQ&feature=related)

vs.

TUESDAY'S GONE
(Lynyrd Skynyrd) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUXK1GAotb4)

So what say you all - which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will be as dead as disco?

A very easy vote for me for Behind Blue Eyes. Never heard this LS song before, and while its an OK song, its not in the same league as this Who Classic!

Both are good songs, but I get bored of Behind Blue Eyes after the first minute, Tuesday's Gone takes me on a musical journey that I can't turn off until the end. Also the guitar in Tuesday's Gone blows me away, Richard Linklater was exactly right when he used it for the morning after scene in Dazed and Confused. It is such a perfect remembering things fondly kind of song.

Looking at the battles so far it's interesting that most have been totally one-sided. So far it seems people really have their favorites.

I wasn't a fan of this song at first. Years later I really listened to it and really appreciate it now. "Behind Blue Eyes" for me.

I was actually tempted to vote for Tuesday's Gone, but then I listened to Behind Blue Eyes all the way through and it got to the point where the bass and drums kicked in and I had forgotten how they made the song ten times better. Both songs themes are a tad similar in that there's a certain amount of sorrow that they want you to feel. In the end I think Behind Blue Eyes appeals to me more from both a musical standpoint and in how I relate to the singer's feeling of having to live up to expectations whether it's from peers or family.

Favorite lyric from the song:
But my dreams
They aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be.

Man, this really IS a tough contest, and puts two great (and different) songs head to head.

Vote for Tuesday's Gone. Never remember an orchestra adding so much to a Skynyrd song, but it works so great here.

I ALMOST wish I could just vote for both. But for me, its Skynyrd by a nose.
