View Full Version : Fixing hard-to-turn bases

So, I was playing in a game the other night and I had borrowed my buddy's Vision figure to fill out my Avengers team. Well, the dial on the base was a little stiff, and Vis had just been popped for two clicks by Spidey, so I went to give him his clicks of damage and ... POP! I broke the clear plastic flying stand off of the black dial. Ouch. Needless to say, my buddy was not happy. So my questions are:
1. What's the best way to loosen up an Infinity Challenge dial so that it will turn more easily, and
2. What's the best way to affix the plastic flying stand thingy back onto the base (super glue, nails, ??)
I apologize if this has been asked in another forum, but I could not find it anywhere.

I do alot of customising figures and have to cut them off their bases regularly and put them on higher ranking bases. The best thing I have found to stick them back on solidly is Super Glue.
Don't know about making them easier to turn though. I could do with some help myself, my Experienced Blade is a swine to turn. I fear he'll break off!
Slide a thin knife down between the edge of the dial and the base and give it a little pressure. It should pop right off. On the inside of the base you will find a little ridge that fits into the little notches on the dial (you'll know it when you see it) which gives the clix their "clicks". Take an x-acto knife and take a bit off of the ridge on the base and your figs will turn much easier. Just be careful not to take too much off or they will just spin freely.

it's happened to me bfore too.
the best way to turn a hard to turn base (as i've found) is to jam your thumb (if it'll fit) into the view stats-slot and grabe the base with your other hand and click using your thumb. don't grab the fig or the clear base of any character for these kinds of clix as they are more than likely to break from the pressure. hopefully after doing of turns using this method the base'll loosen up.

There are generally two causes that I have found for stiff dials. One, the sticker is overlapping the dial perimitter. This causes friction between the dial top and dail bottom. If this is the case you can take an exacto and cut off the overlapping sticker. Cut wisely so no stats are banged up. I wouldn't try to peel off the sticker unless you don't mind printing up a new one. I have only gotten a few up without ripping them.
The second cause is that the nub on the dial that actually makes the clix go click is too large. The fix for this is some light sanding. Not too much or it will spin like a record. You can also look for any bad flashing (the plastic that leaks out of molds during a cast) although I haven't found this to be a reason for any of my dials being stiff.
I will go with The Ridge on the super glue but I give you two pieces of advice on applying it. You should score (make tiny cuts in a cross hatch, like on the top of peanut butter cookies...mmmm peanut butter cookies...) on BOTH pieces. And wait at LEAST 24 hours before you begin to use it for dial turning. Try to fix that stiff dial first too.

Aside from the little clicker knob, I have found that sanding or s####ing the very edge of the base the figure is attached to quickly loosens it up, and have never had to touch the dial sticker, though maybe I have just been fortunate not to get any bad dial placements.
I have found that inserting a knife at the point where you have that slotted section of the base pops them free quickly and easily.
I use Quicktite, another form of superglue, because the tubes seal properly and don't dry out after first use.

Bashing the dial repeatedly with a hammer proves to work.
Sometimes.
I use a really small flathead screwdriver from a progressive set and insert it between the base and one of the smaller "walls" on the outside and pop off the base. Then I use a pocketknife and lightly shave all around the base (the one the fig is attached to). I shave around 2-3 times depending on how bad it turned. Just place the blade perpendicular to the ring and s####e all around. DON'T CUT! For CT bases you have to be a little more careful because you pop the dial out from the bottom. This time shave the dial ring, not the base, it's easier.

I can't believe that the protos are so tight on this board that you can't say the word "scraping" without being censored.
