At the risk of sounding like a #####, I dont think thT thread should have been closed. I feel like some legit points were being risen and because the Mod didn't agree, all valid points of the discussion were ignored and the thread closed? Hmm...

Agreed.
I'm scratching my head as to why anyone thinks it's not okay to expect quality when you buy a product.
I don't understand how expecting to make stated deadlines, produce products without major defects, and having a customer service department and policy for refunds and replacements is asking too much.
I also don't understand how those who make complaints end up being the bad guys.

Thread title fixed.
I'm not sure which closed thread you're referring to, but there's an open thread about Quality Control right here. Feel free to post in it.
Thread closed.
(only kidding)

Just that I felt we were having a real discussion and next thing it's closed with a stupid comment that ignores everything I was saying.
Just wondering if this is to be expected, because I've seen many more personal and out of contril threads go free. To shut this one down seemed a bit like "I'm taking my bat and ball and going home."

And I've noticed more and more rudeness from mods too (present company excluded). We know you're big wigs around these parts. No need to act like a jerk because someone new doesn't know how to use the search functions effectively.
I remember when these forums were a safe haven for people to come and speak their minds because of the bannings, censoring and thread closing from the previous Wizkids regime. Funny to see that unchecked it's managed to get just as bad around here. At least the self-appointed big wigs over there were respectful when they closed your thread or censored you (not so much with the bannings).
I think it's a shame.

Funny to see that unchecked it's managed to get just as bad around here.I just don't see it. Rudeness is always going to be a tricky subject - it's somewhat subjective; it's easy to read rudeness into a brusque or curt statement that wasn't intended; some people are touchy about certain members or moderators; etc. But I think that almost every moderator action that has rubbed somebody the wrong way is either intended to keep this forum from becoming the kind of place that inspires the "Don't read the comments!" mantra, or is in response to somebody breaking a forum rule, or is in response to the direct requests or appeals of other normal users.
You'll see profanity, flames, and other wildly inappropriate behaviour censored. Merely unpopular opinions, no. WizKid forum threads tended to just disappear if it was about a verboten subject.
Almost all of the threads that get closed are either duplicates of an existing thread (sometimes even a stickied thread!) or are spiralling out of control. I've even got a lot of rep on the occasions that I've had to close a degenerate thread. Duplicate threads I sometimes merge so that both conversations can continue, but that's not always appropriate (it can make the merged thread kinda confusing).
The vast majority of bannings are bots and spammers.
The Seeking Redemption thread was an announcement that probably should have been closed and stickied after the first post. The debate going back and forth was already taking place in other threads; it distracts and detracts from the announcement, which contains important information.

A few days ago there was a pretty civil thread going on and a couple of people were talking about cutting costs in the current economy. Most of the comments were in fun, mostly joking, and one of the moderators actually stepped in and warned everyone about not making "political" comments. There really hadn't been ANY political talk that I remember, but I was floored that any person would equate any talk about the economy with politics and think it a political discussion. Just mind blowing that anyone would think it political discussing times are tough for me and for the companies dealing with it. Just astounding.
Just thought it a strange and out of place comment. And no, it wasn't zero_cochrane or Phantalien.

Someone made an Obama joke and another member actually blew up about it iirc.

I didn't remember that, but its entirely possible that I missed it. That would then be a legitiment reason for the Mod comment. I don't think I posted in the thread (don't really remember posting) so probably can't find it again anyway.
Thanks for the clarification!

It wasn't really about Obama.
Someone said "You could ask Obama for a bail-out."
He could have said "You could ask the president for a bail-out."
He didn't say "You could ask Obama for a bail-out, he'll give it to you if you're a homegrown terrorist like the Weathermen."
Two are not political. One is.

That's right, I just remembered it being a crazy huge overreaction, which is why the discussion very quickly escalated into a political discussion needed mod intervention.

Just mentioning controversial political figures (including the President, sadly) is guaranteed to get some people upset. It's best to just Not Do It.
I could speculate on reasons why people get so (unreasonably?) upset, but that's a thread for the Politics forum. :p

So, are all political figures considered controversial?
What if you just said, "Ask Washington for a bail-out?"
Or is even that considered political?
(I'm not trying to "split hairs" or anything. I genuinely want to know where the "line" drawn.)

Rudeness is common here. I know at times I've been a big culprit, and it's probably because I'm really working on my own rudeness that I notice other people's. I dunno.
When someone asks a question and the first part of the response is:
"Sigh..."
How can you interpret that as anything else than rudeness? And when its followed by: "If you would use the search function..." it only furthers the rudeness interpretation. Especially when you look at the avatar and see it's a mod?
I dunno. I see it a bit. I can point it out when I see it in future... Just kidding.
Anyway, I'm just getting frustrated.

It could have been me, and if I post something like that and you don't see any political comments, its probably because I removed the post. And then added thatg snippet in order to (fat chance) have people see/read it and refrain from traveling back in that direction for discussion.

After my post above, a couple of folks mentioned a political reference may have been out there, so it may have been removed, or I may just have missed it. But its all good!! Ignorance is bliss, and I've been pretty happy the last few days!!
PS- No, it wasn't you this time DemonRS, though it sounds now like it was justified, whoever it was. Sounds like my comment above could have been wro..............ng. Boy, THAT was hard!!

This post struck me. Since at the moment realms seems to be the wizkids forum. Seems they post on here as a substitute/or in place any official announcements. When I don't know if this is the place for that. Not officially anyhow. I think they feel that anyone and everyone that plays clix comes to this site. I can certainly bet that they would be mire informed about their customer base than myself but I doubt that is the case.
I think that people should expect some concrete information from the site. Though I don't think it's the place for official announcements. I certainly don't mind wizkids contributing information.
Typhon is the one who owns the site and I guess it is whatever he wants it to be. I'm sure he would hate to turn wizkids folk away as would I. Just seems realms is too much of a crutch for them. Maybe that is only temporary or it may be permanent. That is between Typhon and wizkids.

I kinda like the fact that WK sees us as important enough to the community to want to make announcements here.
Certainly, the company has been a lot more accessible and transparent than they seemed to be in years past and that can only be a good thing.

I won't complain about them posting and announcing things here. I appreciate it as many others do and should. I just question the use of the site as the official place for such announcements. When their own site might be the more appropriate place.
I don't think it's an "important enough" issue ... it's just that, in the past, they've tried the whole "community" thing, and failed. I think that companies put themselves in bad positions when they're force to moderate paying customers, for the sake of other paying customers. I don't have that problem (despite a lot of idiots seeming to think I owe them something because they're donating to keep a free site alive ... totally forgetting that I paid out of pocket for 2 years during the hiatus).
Would I enjoy an arrangement with WizKids that made it so I wouldn't have to ask for donations twice a year? Sure I would! Does it make business sense for WizKids to provide financial support to HCRealms ... knowing that I'm not going to shut it down if they don't? No. That's up to them; and I don't feel right asking them for anything because I don't want them to think I'm threatening them or anything. I love this community; and I just want to make sure the members (as a whole) as treated well.
That being said ... closing of threads is going to happen. It's the management of the forum. I've been doing this for almost 10 years ... and I can predict the flow of almost every thread depending on who's decided they want to be involved in the thread, and the what other types of threads are going on. Some people are just in it to screw it up ... I know who those people. But those people serve a purpose as well. There can't be good without bad ... so it's the staff's job to recognize the bad, and manage it.
I'm going to make an area for WizKids Community Service; and they can manage their announcements through there. It's starting to get a little cluttered at the expense of the forum. That will include any general complaints that are geared towards WizKids and not the community at large.
And because I know this thread will spiral in about 2 pages; I'm going to close it now; I think the solution has been discussed.
