Ok. There are things I've always done with my old group of gamers, but now the relaunch of heroclix has brought in a new crowd and old questions I just can't seem to find answers to when searching the forums and scanning the rule book. Right now I need some help with feat questions....

1. Can you attach feats to special powers? Most feats say something like "Posses: "Whatever Power"" Lets say in this case smoke cloud. Now Night Shade can "use" Smoke Cloud. Does that mean I could attach something like Flash Bang to her? Basically I'm asking does "Can Use" mean the same as "Posses"?

2. The second question is basically the same only with Traits. Does something a character "can use" with a trait allow you to attach a feat to it that requires you to posses something?

Sorry I have to ask these noob questions, but I'm dealing w/ two nit pickers who try to read way more into the wording then I think is necessary.

If a character can use a power on his own, and that power is specifically named, then you assign the feat. For cases like Nico, Gizmo, and Flash/Green Lantern who can use "Any" standard power, you cannot assign any specific feats planning on picking the prereq at some point. I hope that helps.

Oh, and Flashbang works well with Double-Time on Nightshade ;)

For purposes of feats, it doesn't make a difference if a character can use a power or has a power.

From p. 19 of the 2010 Core Rulebook:
In order to be assigned a feat, the character must be able to use the prequisite power or ability. If the character uses the prerequisite power through a power or ability that is not a standard or named power, the prerequisite power must be named by the game effect specifically.

From the Player's Guide:
The first paragraph of Using Feats reads: ―To use a feat, the prerequisites must be present on the character’s combat dial at the time that the player gives the character an action or otherwise uses the feat.

(That one could probably be written better.)

2. The second question is basically the same only with Traits. Does something a character "can use" with a trait allow you to attach a feat to it that requires you to posses something?

Same as above. (So yes.)

1. Yes, Special Powers can qualify the figure for Feats.

In order to be assigned a feat, the character must be able to use the prequisite power or ability. If the character uses the prerequisite power through a power or ability that is not a standard or named power, the prerequisite power must be named by the game effect specifically. A special power that allows a character to use “any standard power” does not satistfy the prerequisites for a feat.

(The last sentence deals with characters like Nico Minoru, who's Special Power allows her to pick a power. She does not qualify for all Feats.)

2. Yes, the same thing for Traits.

3. "Use" and "Possess" are two different game terms. Using a power does not mean you possess it -- the important distinction is in Traits. If a character possesses a power as part of a Trait, it can be Outwitted. If you are only using the power, it can't be Outwitted.
