This is going to be a long thread......
....I don't know what im getting myself into, but here goes.
MARVEL Vs DC
Comicwise and clixwise......
Comicwise
Im not saying Dc isn't any good.
They got their strengths....um ...Superman, their designs....ah..Batmans cape, and their famous citys....
....where the heck are they?
I just can't find them anywhere on a map. Spidey, Daredevil, and Kingpin all are in New York....found it.
Lets see X-Men are at 1407 Graymalkin Lane in the town of Salem Center in New York State's Westchester County.
Tigras in Los Angeles, California.
Iron Man is in Silicon Valley, California.
Nope no Gothem or Metropolis. Dang, DC really must have a different map than me.
People may argue that DC started it all with the greats. But all the years have gone by and DC ain't changin. There downfall.......Continuity. Opps I just pulled out my handy dandy kryptonite.
Look in the sky! Its a bird...its a plane....No its.....
Superman-Hes fater than a speeding bullet...can leap buildings in a single bound....and don't forget hes stronger than a locomative.
In so many ways we all relate to Superman, right? He represents freedom, justice, and everything good. Hes even go super powers......super strength, flight, speed, laser vision, x-ray vision, ice breath, intelligence, looks, and hes sooooo classy. But how come he can lift giant boats and huge heavy things....but in battle he has trouble lifting a truck? Its all for the suspense.......that couldn't be if he was just perfect. Oh, I thought he was perfect. How come something named after his planet hurts him? How does glasses and a quick hand threw the hair disguise him so good? Where the heck is Metropolis? How come his boss dos'nt get in his face a bout work like spidy's boss?
Supermans crime- being to perfect and foolin around during battle to create suspense.
Batman
Now lets look at batman. Hes one of DC's better creations, just a rich guy who can fight real good and has a lot of gadgets. But how come he gets shot, blown up, poisened, frozen, knocked out, beaten, left for dead, robbed, and then still survives?!?!!
Got me there. Mabye hes just really lucky. But what about Batmans Boy Wonder? Does he really need a little kid in tights running around with him? Gee Batman, you got a thing for boys in tight green shorts? Holy Bible Batman might be......
...Batmans crime- Runs around with tight panted boys named #### and survives everything.
Green Lantern
Hes so cool. Hes got a power ring(probably from a cereal box), and a whole Corps to back him up. Just how many Green Lanterns are there? Jeeze, and I thought rabbits multiplied fast. Whats up with the blue guys with big heads? How many times have they been killed/beaten/slaughtered? Oh and who has a weakness of wood? Of all the things to be weak to....
Guess the sying sticks and stones will break.....
Green Lantrens crime- Multiplying like rodents and taking orders from Big Blue headed little men.(and bein weak to wood!)
Etc... Etc....
Clixwise
Catwomen dosnt have supersenses! What about all those cheap team abilitys? And the overused outwit!
Etc... Etc...
DC seems to be way behind clixwise and comicwise today.
So.......
........Lets take a vote whos better!(...what have I started? :O)
I'll post this on DC post and Marvel so vote away.....
....and argue too, get some steam off on Marvel and DC on this thread.

Learn to spell and properly organize your thoughts. After that I'll weigh in on your pointless debate. Seriously why post a sensationalist troll-baiting piece like this?

No you still can't spell- "disscusion". However that's not the point. Wanting to rile people up and get an argument based solely on opinion is a poor idea.

I think as far as Clix go, Marvel wins simply because there will be 3 sets before DC will release 2. However, I think this more WizKids fault than anyone else.
As far as comics go, the answers get tougher.
I guess overall, Marvel is better. The Ultimates, Utimate Spider-Man, New X-Men, Alias, Daredvil, Incredible Hulk, Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Statix, Exiles, and the lsit oges on and on. These are probably the best books in the indusrty in msot people's opinions. But what's more, most of them are so revoultionary! Marvel really took some chances with it's books lately. X-Men takes the best of the social commentary, soap opera, and action book it alternately was in the past, combine those great elements, and exponentially amplifies that. Fans compalined about Spider-Man losing touch with the teenager he once was, so marvel gives fans a book starring Spider-Man in his glory years. The Hulk is the wanderer he was on the 70's show, but mixed a giant conspiracy in with it, and the star of the book is Bruce Banner, as the Hulk rarely shows up! Also, their new trade program, which was virtually nonexist not so long ago, has by far surpassed DCs. Also helping fans catch up is Marvel recap page, which is in each issue, and fills readers in on what they need to know.
On the cons side, Marvel has some downsides. Most fans were not big fans of Origin, a story that easily could've become far greater than it was. The heads of Marvel seem to be huge fans or usually disappointing creators like Ron Zimmerman, and force them down readers throats. Speaking of the heads of Marvle, the U-Decide fiasco, manufactured or not, made marvel come across as very uncaring in regards to its talent. Also, Marvel seems to care little about making new good comics lately, and would rather jsut get press, ie the so-so Rawhide Kid. They promised it would be one of the best comics of late, and it wasn't even good! Going along with these trends, Marvl s####ped the original Thunderbolts for a new, and in amny popel's opinion, worse book tha has no ties to the old team in the hopes of duplication X-Force's incredible success.
DC seems to be Marve's exact opposite now. After years of getting flack for replacing the "classic" Green Lantern and Green Arrow for a fresh start, DC seems to now be obsessed with continuity. JSA, Hakwman, Kevin Smith's Green Arrow, Jeoh Loeb's Superman, and Batman, some of DC's best books, all take advantage of decades of stories and cahracters effectively. For instance, JSA has dealt with characters from ancient Egypt like Black Adam and Vandal Savage, to Hourman, from thousands of years in the future. Hawkman deals wih reincarnation and his past lives, some of them as estalished DC characters like Nighthawk. And the other books all star frequent guests. If you're a fan of DC charactrs, it's likely even the most obscure is getting panel time somewhere.
On the flip side, continuity can be a hinderance. While it's cool for older, die-hard readers, newer and younger readers get left behind. Many titles go nowhere and simply stick to the status quo, somethign DC is infamous for. Brad Metzler's Green Arrow seemed to have no point except use history and guest stars as a crutch. While Flash can be a good read, it often fal into the "villian shows up, expostiion, villain beats hero, hero returns with a way to be villain." On of DC's freshest titles, Doom Patrol, is now getting canceled. It seems the only place to go at DC for truly original stories is Vertigo, its line for mature readers.
Oooh a Marvel is better than DC Debate!
Nope no Gothem or Metropolis. Dang, DC really must have a different map than me.
They are on the same map as Wakanda, Latveria, & Genosha.

I love it, that is a great analogy fatter than a speeding bullet. Now exactly how big is this bullet. If it is regular sized then superman must be Belimic or Anarexic. (Don't know if I spelled either right)
In my opinion Marvel win in collecting because the characters of the Marvel world are better
In game play and stats DC wins. I like the mix of abilities and stats that they do better than Marvel.

lol
we here at hcrealms take our spelling and grammer very seriously lol
here have a cigar
and remember to have loads of fun
good post i enjoyed the read man
lol altho idjit lol
heres the deal
way back when superman was created, he was created as the first "overweight" superhero, hence it was originally "fatter than a speeding bullet", that however didn't market too well, so the creators (who were canadian by the way) changed it and n ow we have Clark Kent-----Superman who is faster than a speeding bullet.
So Dr. Notsoevil was just refering the original charecter, showing his great knowledge of history,
hope that clears it up eh
now lest have some fun :)

YOUR ALL NUTS (except those who have voted or supported DC)
Marvel is crazy ALL there heros are in New York. I mean the X men should be running into Spidey every other issue. Most of there heros have some really screwed up orgins too (i am not saying DC's is perfect).
Marvel is also very and i mean VERY uncreative. I mean hats off to Uncanny X-men (500+ issues) but very few issues are over 50. I mean look at it, how many retelling of Spidermans orgin are needed. And look at the ultimates (I do like Ultimate Spiderman) new costumes whoo hooo. Look at DC Detective 788/ Action 800/ Batman over 600/ GL 150something/ Flash 180/ Ideas just keep one coming.
If you need more eEvidence please let me know!
Is Mojo fatter than a speeding bullet?
When Spiral gets hungry she cuts off six slices of flab off of Mojo and has herself a Banquet.

Marvel is better than DC. Superman is to the point of where he could be stopping a mugging, and he will say Oh yeah I just happen to have Kryptonite! Gasp. Everyone has it. I'll admit that Batman is awesome. I don't hate DC, but Superman makes me mad.

hmmmmmm a Mojo banquet
appearing in fine eatery's everywhere.... what else do u think Taco Bell uses??
as to marvel being uncreative
Fantastic four, xmen, avengers, spiderman, thor, ironman
all 300 plus issues
both companies are very creative, thats why they stay in business
both companies have very likable hero's and villans, that people love
again why they stay in business
however marvel has more hero's and villans that people love, which is why they have more titles
anyways this is all personnel opinion, you have yours, they have theirs and i will have mine
anyways we all know that from both companies, the best charecter is of coarse....

A Marvel vs. DC thread ... and you call yourself Dr.Notsoevil?
You're underestimating yourself - you're pure EVIL!
netropolis is in illnoise and gotham is dc new york. just my 2 cents

I have always liked Marvel better, but they're both pretty cool. They both are very different and that's a good thing. Lately I've been buying about 1/3 of my comics from DC, which was previously unheard of. You know what they say - variety is the spice channel of life!
Dr. Notsoevil doesn't seem to understand the word archetype (or many other words considering how bad he spells).
So... we'll put him with the rest of the "Marvel Onlies" who feel they need to compensate.

Plus 300 what?
I just checked the Marvel web site. None of these comics are above 300 issues maybe collectivly or thoughout the years but not on going. The only comic still on going is Uncanny X-men. The rest no where close.
FF 66
Captin America 9
Avengers 64
Iron Man 65
ect ect
Unless i dont know how Mavel does its numbering of issues these numbers dont look big.

I like them both equally. I love all comics--well most. I know people might have their opinions, but i don't find one better than the other.
I LOVE ALL COMICS
That's because of "Heroes Reborn" and "Heroes Return."
But, it makes you wonder why they wanted Uncanny X-Men to have the highest number.
For a while there they were printing 2 numbers on Avengers, FF, Captain America, etc. Courtesy of Fat Joe.
Marvel renumbered a great many of their titles during the mid-90s era. Wolverine's comic is in the 130s I believe at the moment, but is being relaunched with a new #1 in May. In the case of each book you list it wasn't a matter of the books being unpopular or cancelled, just a matter of the marketing/editorial department feeling more readers would give a new direction a better chance of success.
The closest DC example I can think of is the Superman title being started over with a new numbering, although they kept the original going as Adventures of Superman.
Well, my initial thought when I heard they were coming out with DC hero clix was "who would be interested in that?" But as I got to looking at the characters it reminded me about a lot of heroes I really liked as a we kid. As a wee kid I was always really impressed by the powerfull DC heroes, but later I came to really appreciate what I felt were more realistic Marvel heroes. Now as an adult while I don't read comics anymore, playing this game gives me a warm fuzzy childhood feeling I used to get as a kid reading a comic book.
Good and evil were easy to identify.
Evil could be beaten if you were determined and persistent.
The future had unlimited potential.
Now I worry about bills when I am not doing a boring job. Every now and then HeroClix and the heroes and villains take me to a better place for a while.
I am glad of them both.
:)
It's all marketing.
The companies feel they need to restart the issues at number one to make them more collectable. It used to be rare to see a number one, now it happens all the time.

Does anyone else realize you're all falling right into Dr.Notsoevil's hands? He wanted you to argue and so now you are. Especially when the first few posts were saying this was a stupid idea and now you're all doing it. If you don't want to egg on a futile argument, then just ignore it.
Edit: My mistake, many of the recent posts have been very respecting and intelligent. I am sorry I didn't read all of the posts. :p I didn't read them all. I'm the fool. My bad.

lol
they are, on each issue there is 2 numbers
the smaller number tells u how long the original series is, it never stopped, they just started renumbering after, hero reborn and hero's return storylines
the comics never ended, they just wanted to make a bunch of issue number 1's again
its all cause of onslaught i tell u
anywyas i collect some of those comics and there is 2 numbers
sorry for the confusion
how go rolls double 6's and lets have some fun
cheers
It's impossible to say wh9ich one is better for whatever reason. I will say this, i've been reading comics a heck of a long time and i like both DC and Marvel i prefer Marvel for one odd reason, social realism. I know it sounds wierd but if you look at the track record of the heros and villians it makes perfect sense. Namor one of the first Marvel characters ever, his goal was to stop the pollution of the oceans, way ahead of its time. X-men teaching racial tolerance. In my humble opinion Marvel did a great thing, they attempted to educate and enlighten children about certain social issues using comics. The Fantastic Four came out at a time when the space race had gotten under way, every major social issue can be tracked by Marvel comics, heck they invented a hero just for WW2 Captain America. As i said before i do like DC don't think i'm bashing DC i just like the original way Marvel dealt with heros villians and issues that were relivent at the time.
On the subject of Mojo, does anyone think Mojo looks like Ursela from the little Mermaid movie?
Pip the Troll -no Mojo is in all the subway sandwiches that are not under 6 grams of fat or less. I think he has a flab regenerating power so the pork just keeps on coming.

Marvel vs DC
ofta, definately a can of worms here and initially I would like to say that it would depend on the person. marvel and dc have different styles in which they present their "heroes/villians" in their respective books. which one sings to you? now there's the question...what are some of the key differences (imo)?
DC
higher power level over all, when compaired to marvel
more iconic characters...batman, wonder woman, superman
views "good and evil" in more black and white terms...
Marvel
more realistic approach to the world in general, both personally for the "heroes" and on a large scale.
better stories over all, including continuity
social awareness/attempt at education of social issues
...now the above are three good things for each company that come to mind right off the bat, and is purely my opinion. given the above I actually prefer Marvel. the characters just seemed more "human" to me than those from DC, this meaning they all seem to have flaws in their character which makes them more rounded over all. this, in turn, makes me identify with them better, another big thing, for me at least, is the power scale. dc, to me, runs at a much higher power scale over all when compaired to marvel. this has the effect of actually working against dc for keeping their "heroes" human...if you catch my meaning.
another thing that I like about marvel is their attempt at social education and awareness. sure the kree/skrull war was a poor analogy of vietnam...but at least they tried. there were other examples listed in previous posts so I won't hash them out again. my point being that you see this social awareness much more in marvel than dc, and I like it. keeps the marvel universe a bit more "real" for me, which means more enjoyment when I read their books...
bottom line....
I like marvel better, not that dc is bad though. I just prefer the more "realistic" approach that marvel has chosen to go with...
heck...I want Nova to get another title...that would be three #1's for him. ;) The book numbers don't mean much for some of the older titles due to both companies liking to restart their books on occasion. dc did it with crisis and marvel is just know going through a big revision....I expect marvel will have it's own "crisis" soon and most books with transform over to the "ultimate" line...

I Pity the fool who judges a fool.
I Pity the fool who messes with me!!
Anyways.....

Got Milk?
Marvel got milk.
And Long live Pip!
