Marvel Vs DC.......the end is near!
This is going to be a long thread......
....I don't know what im getting myself into, but here goes.
MARVEL Vs DC
Comicwise and clixwise......
Comicwise
Im not saying Dc isn't any good.
They got their strengths....um ...Superman, their designs....ah..Batmans cape, and their famous citys....
....where the heck are they?
I just can't find them anywhere on a map. Spidey, Daredevil, and Kingpin all are in New York....found it.
Lets see X-Men are at 1407 Graymalkin Lane in the town of Salem Center in New York State's Westchester County.
Tigras in Los Angeles, California.
Iron Man is in Silicon Valley, California.
Nope no Gothem or Metropolis. Dang, DC really must have a different map than me.
People may argue that DC started it all with the greats. But all the years have gone by and DC ain't changin. There downfall.......Continuity. Opps I just pulled out my handy dandy kryptonite.
Look in the sky! Its a bird...its a plane....No its.....
Superman-Hes fater than a speeding bullet...can leap buildings in a single bound....and don't forget hes stronger than a locomative.
In so many ways we all relate to Superman, right? He represents freedom, justice, and everything good. Hes even go super powers......super strength, flight, speed, laser vision, x-ray vision, ice breath, intelligence, looks, and hes sooooo classy. But how come he can lift giant boats and huge heavy things....but in battle he has trouble lifting a truck? Its all for the suspense.......that couldn't be if he was just perfect. Oh, I thought he was perfect. How come something named after his planet hurts him? How does glasses and a quick hand threw the hair disguise him so good? Where the heck is Metropolis? How come his boss dos'nt get in his face a bout work like spidy's boss?
Supermans crime- being to perfect and foolin around during battle to create suspense.
Batman
Now lets look at batman. Hes one of DC's better creations, just a rich guy who can fight real good and has a lot of gadgets. But how come he gets shot, blown up, poisened, frozen, knocked out, beaten, left for dead, robbed, and then still survives?!?!!
Got me there. Mabye hes just really lucky. But what about Batmans Boy Wonder? Does he really need a little kid in tights running around with him? Gee Batman, you got a thing for boys in tight green shorts? Holy Bible Batman might be......
...Batmans crime- Runs around with tight panted boys named #### and survives everything.
Green Lantern
Hes so cool. Hes got a power ring(probably from a cereal box), and a whole Corps to back him up. Just how many Green Lanterns are there? Jeeze, and I thought rabbits multiplied fast. Whats up with the blue guys with big heads? How many times have they been killed/beaten/slaughtered? Oh and who has a weakness of wood? Of all the things to be weak to....
Guess the sying sticks and stones will break.....
Green Lantrens crime- Multiplying like rodents and taking orders from Big Blue headed little men.(and bein weak to wood!)
Etc... Etc....
Clixwise
Catwomen dosnt have supersenses! What about all those cheap team abilitys? And the overused outwit!
Etc... Etc...
DC seems to be way behind clixwise and comicwise today.
So.......
........Lets take a vote whos better!(...what have I started? :O)
I'll post this on DC post and Marvel so vote away.....
....and argue too, get some steam off on Marvel and DC on this thread.

I'm just reading this and wondering if your issue with DC is mostly built around thier "fictional" geography. If that's the case let me take a shot at this.
New York is Gotham City
Bludhaven is The Bronx
The area Robin went to school in was more or less Queens NY
Metropolis is described by some as The East Side of New York Vs. The West side being Gotham. I'm more convinced it was like Chicago before the Braniac advances.
Gateway City is Boston
Star City is Seattle
Keystone City is Minnesota hence the twin City
Green Lantern and the Titans are based in the "real" New York.
DC Maps often show Gotham being in the area of South Jersey and Metropolis as New York.
Writers tend to describe it as I said above West side / East side with a river and bridge in the middle.
I dont know where Hub City or Fawcett City is located but whatever.
Coast City was more or less San Diego
I grew up in New York and now live in San Diego.
So having grown up in Gotham and living in Coast City I might just know what I'm talking about . Then again maybe not. :)

Everyone knows Marvel is Better then DC. Game wise, once CT came out, money wise. You can see it in the sales. I have only seen a few DC only people and thats been only on the boards. There are far more Marvel only fans. A lot of DC fans are just rude and cant accept the facts. Comic sales Marvel has the top 4-5 spots.
Now saying Marvel will always better. Dont know about that. You never know what will happen.
Well if people are going to start talking about which is better and use "who sells more" thought I'd post the top 10 books this month, according to Wizard
1 - Batman #611
2 - Ultimate War #3
3 - Ultimate Spider-Man #34
4 - Ultimate Spider-Man #35
5 - New X-Men - 136
6 - Amazing Spider-Man #49
7 - Ultimate X-Men #27
8 - Ultimtae X-Men #28
9 - Uncanny X-Men #417
10 - Uncanny X-Men #418
(for the DC fans the next DC book on the list is #16 - JLA #77
So if you are going to Judge simply on comic sales, then marvel does beat DC.
Okay here's my opinion
I love both companies.
The Ultimate Line Rules
JLA ROCKS!! (not counting the last 6 months)
But for story lines I'll have to go with DC
Watchmen
Dark Knight Returns
and my Favorite of all Kingdom Come
Have all been DC stories.

You know someones taste is bad when they put Kingdom Come down.
Who put kingdom Come down?
Someone who was finished reading it.:p

WHY WHY WHY Must people continually do this ridiculous argument that only starts flaming??? "WE" are better... no, "WE" are!!! "WE" will always be better!
So what???? Play the game the way you like, read what you like!!! Geeze... If you hate DC, go to the Marvel Boards! And vice versa!
As far as the geography, nope, Gotham is not New york: Gotham is Gotham, New York is New York... even in DC they are seperate places. I do not mind fictional cities...after all, these are fictional characters. Realism or not, keep in mind: it's a comic.
According to the DC Atlas, Gotham City is in New Jersey
Metropolis in Delaware
Central City is in Missouri
Keystone City is (I think) in Kansas
New York is still there... Green Lantern currently calls it home
Chicago is Chicago... Blue Beetle was there.
Coast City was in California

Hey, over at marvel there is the same post. A lot of good points over there. Here......
.......Nuttin.
Ack! Marvel zombies strike again! Machine says that "DC fans are just rude and cant accept the facts". Here's a fact that DC fans have accepted... we don't have to justify our fan-dom by continually creating these types of posts! Marvel fans for some reason feel the need to bash DC continually. I think it's a type of inferiority complex that you get by only reading Marvel books or something. And as for being rude, well I haven't seen too many posts by DC fans putting down Marvel fans (until they start it!). Unfortunately, I see way too many going the other way...
As for me personally, I'm a fan of both. I collect both clix (I'll get indy clix too) and collect comics from lots of companies. I'm not a DC fan or a Marvel fan.... I'm a comic fan. But, if I had to chose one of the big companies over the other, Marvel would get the boot faster than you could say "'nuff said"!

No one's saying DC is bad. Its just what you think. You can think whatever you want about whatever it is that you think about, wherever you think about what whatever you think about is.
Got it?
Good.

alright let's see here. first the previous post is correct-nobody put Kingdom come down.. it's a great book. but if there weren't a Batman then Moon Knight, Black Panther, Dare Devil, and quite a few other Marvel guys would be in the soup line. How about Superman, without whom you'd have nobody that could lift over twenty tons in the Marvel universe; Hulk, Abomination, Gladiator, and especially Hyperion would be standing around a barrel with the no jobbers warming their hands.. I gotta give props to Namor-he's just cooler than Aqua man (Namor would not need the Power-Puff girls to save his hiney) Ms. Marvel and Rogue are/were tough, but they ain't Wonder Woman. And the list goes on and on.. also Marvel does one thing wonderfully better than D.C.- it recycles the Story Lines!! after about ten years-oops here come the Brood again..somebody get me some bugspray..I'm out!!!

It is my opinion that there is no way to properly compare these two different enties. I could name books in both companies that make them suck, and more books in both companies that make them ROCK. The only reason why I like DC over Marvel is they seem to appeal to my age group, yeah I'm over 25. I do like some marvel books. and when I was getting into comics, Jim Lee's Run on Uncanny X-Men and Excalibur were my favorites. You might as well be arguing which book company is better, Harper Collins or Penguin Putnam. This arguement is a waste of everyone's time.

I'll tell you one thing. If Wizkids keeps screwing DC like they did in the last set it will make future DC expansions useless. Marvel clix have characters with 12 & 13 attacks and 17, 18 & 19 defenses. DC characters are too easy to hit. On top of that they have a very hard time hitting Marvel characters with the high defenses. Don't even get me started on the Flash either.
As for Machine's ignorant comments, I have seen many more instances where Marvel Zombie's attack the DC Drones and the reason that you have only seen a few DC only poeple on these boards is because most people, including myself, are more open minded and just appreciate comic books in general.
If you wanna talk about sales don't forget to include the fact that Marvel puts out a hell of a lot more books a month than DC regardless of whether or not they are good.
I don't see where the geography part plays any part. If anything it makes the people at DC look a little more imaginative to be able to create new locations rather than just using ones that already exist. One thing you should remember though is that it is all fake. It's a comic book.
Personally, I read books from both companies and enjoy characters from both. These "Who is better" threads start to get old after awile.

I count 53 Marvel books to 64 DC, with Marvel grabbing a much larger share of sales.
In general, except for a few blips in the early 70s and early 90s, DC has always put out more books. (And better quality books as well for most of the last 20 years, IMO, although Marvel is closing the gap fast. I think the new Epic line should put Marvel over the top in the "Who has the best books" competition.)
Edit: They're making a Korvac saga trade! Wahoolazooma!

LMAO, Dude that was perplex, outwit, mind control and incapacitate all rolled up into one.
BTW, DC is renown from TV history, but Marvel characters are just so much cooler IMO. I mean Spidey, Wolverine, The Avengers. Sorry guys, but "The Superfriends" just don't cut it. Although there are two very cool guys in DC: Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter (neither of which are clix). :)

Well... where to start...
Looking down this thread I see people trashing Marvel.... Trashing DC. and so forth.
I got to thinking... what were my most memorable Comics/story arcs..?
Top of the draw..
Lone Wolf and Cub...(sorry had to throw that in there)
ok really..
1. Dark Night Returns...
- I mean didn't you get chills when years of unresolved issues came to a close? How would the people of Gotham accept (or not) Batman's Vigilanteism (sp?)... What will eventually happen between the two greatest arch-rivals (Joker/Batman). And to top it all of... what would happen between the bigblueboyscout and the Dark knight when their respective (albeit, oppostite) views clash for one last final confrontation?
Gotta say this was one of the most memorable Stories. Incidently I just procured 1-4 1st printings of said Graphic novels (you ready for this) OWNED & signed by FRANK FREAKIN' MILLER!!! off of ebay from the CBLDF! (had to throw that in too)
2. Sandman!!! (Vertigo counts)
Neil Gaiman wrote perhaps one the most well recieved comic book story ever written! This is one of those collections that Most readers "oooh & Awwww" over, with very good reason.
3. Preacher!!!
- I mean it sums it all up in the fact you Place A preacher w/ the voice of God, His Hitman Girlfriend, and whiskey drinking Irish 100 year old Vampire together, looking for God. I was soooo absorbed into the story and art that I often wondered why do I even bother with any other sort of story vehicle (movies books tv...so on & so on)
4. The Tower of Babyl story arc (JLA)
- Come on now! this was one of the coolest arcs of all time!
Everyone in the JLA (except for one!)gets Scr@wed over and taken out because of one man! Sorry y'all! I can't say much more cuz I don't want to spoil it to you open minded readers who might want to pick this one up. But, nonetheless, this was a very memorable one!
5. Kingdom Come!!
- what can I say but, wow.... fantastic in every dept. that makes for a good comic/ graphic novel... hand painted ( yes I said painted) panels on every page! with a gorgeous story to match the art! Again, one of my most memorable Graphic novels...
6. The Long Halloween!!
- Geez, really I can not do justice to this. you will all have to trust me on this one( heck I could start another thread on this topic alone {like I am that far off now})
7. Swampthing by alan moore!
-cool cool story run!
8. Killing Joke!!
- Need I say more?
9. 100 Bullets!!
-it's this far down the list because it's not finished it's run yet and I am still waiting to see what my final verdict on this master work of storytelling! Got to say though... it's one heck of a title!
10. The Ultimate titles from marvel(ultimates/spiderman/Xmen)
- these are down the list too because they are not done running yet. These are some good titles... not groundbreaking... but good.
Now onto the clix aspect... well let me see.... Marvel=2, soon to be 3 shots @ getting the clix right..... DC=1 shot @ getting clix right. I have to say marvel is running away with this one... due to sheer #'s of attempts @ getting it done well. But if you look solely @ IC and HT and compare the two first attempts by both DC and Marvel I would have to say the one with more thought is DC... look at how marvel is trying to emulate dc..I.E. Lower AV & DV with more powers and so forth. I would have to take my Hat off to DC.
The one thing I will Give Kudos to marvel is in the most original/best superhero origin. Of all the origins/driving force to be a superhero, I like Spiderman's origin the most. sure like all other superheroes.. his father figure dies.. (ala Planet Krypton exlploding/ Waynes getting shot) But the one main difference is that Peter had a "choice" in saving Uncle Ben. Bruce and clark had no chance of preventing the disasters that befell their parents. Peter had his chance to prevent Ben from dying but didn't (not on purpose) and realized in the end he could have prevented it. So with that I will give two Kudos to Marvel and many to DC for the lessons learned and lives lived(vicariously).
Nope. Check the link.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/n...tem.cgi?id=1924
It might be true that DC solicited more books than Marvel in the link above, but that link also doesn't provide a surefire method of gauging comic sales by any means. First off, this only covers books sold through the direct market, more specifically through Diamond Distribution. Many of DC's licensed products sell poorly in the direct market but recoup their sales totals in newstand sales.
This chart also neglects to include re-orders taking place after cut-off periods. There is mention of re-orders, but considering 80% of this material hasn't been released yet there is still room for further re-orders after the books have arrived and possibly sold out. If your local comic shop sells out of Jim Lee's Batman they can go back and re-order additional copies from DC. Marvel no longer allows for any extra stock to be available and has made a point of making re-orders unavailable. This means that a retailer has to order more blindly on a Marvel book than a DC book. If they don't order enough of a DC book they can always go back and re-order more later. If they sell out of a Marvel book they are screwed. While this inflates Marvel's numbers in the initial charts, it by no means reflects the actual sales of these titles.

Meanwhile....
DC is the Original.
All superheroes in any universe have been based upon two of the first.
Batman and Superman
The heroes of Night and Day. The Man and Superman. The dark brooding tortured soul of Bruce Wayne or the noble and always well intentioned Clark Kent. Every hero after them is a variation of the original formulas. Peter Parker is a Clark Kent/ Superman type with a Batman-esque origin that has made him adhere to an oath of "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility."
Punisher, Wolverine, and almost every other anti-hero gets his origin from Batman in comics and The Shadow.
Captain America, Spiderman, Thor get there origin from the Primary colored and postively influenced Superman.
Now dont misunderstand me and take these origins literally. I dont mean they are replicas of the characters but they are inspired by the first. Every writer who has come along has touched these characters and changed them in thier own way. That's just how the creative method works.
I have collected comics since I was seven years old and that was 21 years ago. I have been an admirer of the characters since I was old enough to wear underoos and tie a towel around my neck. I have the stitch scars on my body to proove my childhood dedication to these icons wether they be Marvel or DC.
Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker have been life-long friends of mine if not of each other and I almost feel a sense of sadness for todays readers because they missed out on the Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns the first time around when it was cutting edge and new and no one had seen anything like it before. I look back fondly at memories of the Hobgoblin Saga when everyone had a quess at who might be under the mask. To put that in perspective, when was the last time anyone heard the name Lance Bannon? Ned Leeds was never the Hobgoblin by the way the true readers know that was all just a ruse. He was dressed by the Foreigner's men and killed by them in his hotel room during the Wolverine Vs. Spiderman story that was later told in the pages of Amazing.
Sorry I went on a tangent. Bottom Line is that Marvel and DC are both the greatest and I think they only benefit by the existence of the other. It's great that people can debate who would win Hulk or Superman, Captain America or Batman, Captain Marvel or Thor. The fact is we should just agree to debate and agree to disagree.
there is no need to flame each other and be so agitated by others opinions. Love the characters who mattered to you in the your youth and in your present and if those characters are still the same then stop to appreciate that unlike most real people in your life they have been there to entertain and inspire you. To entertain and to influence you to be better then you have ever been.
That's what some of the characters have been to me. Fighting a never ending battle, In a world that fears and hates them, to make the world of man know peace and to understand that with great power must come great responsibility. In Brightest Day, In Darkest Night no evil shall escape my sight beware the Power of ....

By the way...
Why would anyone use current sales to determine the champion of these two companies???
I mean I quess that might speak of today but what about the 25 years before Atlas Comics became Marvel when all there was, was DC? Should we just average it all out and see what happens?
Or what about all the Abysmal books bothe companies have put out including whole lines of books. The New Universe? STAR Comics? Impact Comics? M2?
Even those books had fans. Just because someone buys it does not make it good.
I pick up the following:
Marvel: Daredevil, Avengers, Amazing Spiderman, Peter Parker Spiderman, Alias, Ultimate Spiderman, The Ultimates, Agent X, The Incredible Hulk, Uncanny X-men, X-men,
DC: Batman, Gotham Knights, Detective Comics, JLA, Nightwing, Robin, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern, JSA, Green Arrow.
I was never a fan of Daredevil or the Hulk but Bendis and Jones have written these two books so well that they have me hooked. I have no idea why I am still reading the X-books. Alias and Ultimate Spiderman again captures Bendis' style.
Johns has done incredible work on JSA and Flash. Aquaman is going a unique and likable direction. Green Arrow is another great book. JLA is always a book I can wait to pick up.
But Agent X over at Marvel is Laugh Out Loud Funny.

Did you know DC makes Bionicle(lego) comics.
........ick.......im...gonna...be..sick......
...............why???????........................................................................... .................................
Did you know that Marvel had a Captain Planet comic?
Gaaak . . . . . whyyYY???????
i have to say, that I feel these posts of whose better DC or Marvel are kinda Lame. It really has to do with the writers and and artists behind the books. If you like say, Peter David, are you going to stop reading his work if its put out by a different company? If so, I would say your missing out. I like many writers and artists and using Peter David as an example, since he's worked for both companies like many professionals, I enjoyed his work on both Hulk and Aquaman.
so there. :p

Although not really a fan of Peter David's I understand and agree with your point and it is a valid one. So is following a character through horrendous writers and artists. The Clone Saga Anyone. If you love a character you may feel strongly to one universe or the other but I really think my opinion on this on the last page sums it up pretty well. If you haven't read it please check it out. - T.

Ack! After many years of spider-man, I finally bailed during that and haven't been back. I tried to wait it out, but it never seemed to end. Too bad... I loved Venom!
And I just gotta say anyone not reading Loeb and Lee on Batman right now can't consider him a comic book fan! ;)
If ya what to see Spidey Back in all his well written glory, pick up Ultimate Spiderman
Trust me. . . it's the Spidey we all know and love.
I lost respect for marvel when, in the late 70's they kept screwing up movie adaptations. i kept buying them.....and kept stinking.
Bad stuff.
Does Anyone remember:
Rom the Space Knight?
The Human Fly?
Devil Dinosaur?
Godzilla?
Marvel titles I remember stinking.....
DC has some too I just can;t remember them....Those Marvel Titles just left a bad taste in my mouth....and 25+ years is a long time to have that taste in my mouth don't you think?
But I was younger and I enjoyed them... sort of.:D

Ultimates
Amazing Spider Man

Having worked the last 7 and 1/2 years working @ the local comic shop "Cosmic Comics". I'd honestly have to say the neither DC or Marvel is better. Crossgen Comics are far and away the most superior comics out there. The have the best continuity, every title is beautiful to look at, the stories are of the hook, and they have very dynamic heroes and villians. Here goes what I read everymonth>
DC
Batgirl
Batman
Planetary if it everyships
Marvel
Amazing Spider-man
New X-men
Ultimates
Thor now and again
Crossgen
all but demonwars
Dreamwave
Transformers all
Image
none right now but few have potential if they continue to come out regularly
Darkhorse
Grendal
Hellboy
Star Wars infinity
Spy Boy
Cartoon Books
Bone
Sorry to cut in but I'm sure your all familliar with the green lantern LE figure?? And how its inquest mail order only. Well I was just wondering What issue it is in and where to get it???
