View Full Version : Best way to go against Bag man?
I'm trying ot think of the best ways to go against the Bombastic bag man:
1. Would deadpool be able to use his healing factor roll on the attack back or no because its penetrating, being a trait for deadpool it confused me.
2. I also guess the new wolverine would work, attacking, healing, attacking again
Any one else have ideas for ways to deal with the bagman without basically sacrificing some of your own?

I killed him without taking a single click of damage using Noh-Varr and single target pulse waves.
my plan for when i go up against the bagman is to just not attack him... kill all of his teammates off and depending on how much points i already won and how much life my team has, i can either go for bagman last or just play the run away game
or else get a bunch of muggers to waste on him

so pulse wave DOES ignore bagman's trait? we were debating this where i play

Yes. Pulsewave ignores many things, among those are traits.

Yep. PW ignores traits, too. And so Pulse Wave OWNS YOU, Bagman!!!

Incap, Pulse Wave, Force Blast. Or just ignore him- he has no move-attack capabilities (beyond Pounce), and he's giving up clicks to use against you if he pushes.
Vector TKing when he's within 3 Squares is also another solid tactic. You know just powers where you don't actually attack.
but does the deadpool trait work on the backlash if deadpool attacked bagman?
Attack bagman with...BAGMAN!!! or use nightshade from AA. Free damage on him. Dead
Toughest 1 there is

Are you sure that Incap gets through? Because he would still be taking damage BECAUSE of the attack, even though it's pushing him. I guess it could go either way though.
i just had a thought... MIND CONTROL! mind control somebody on bagman's team and have them attack Bagman!

He's taking damage because he's pushing, not because of the attack. You'd be fine.

RIDICULOUS REGENERATION: Whenever Deadpool would be dealt damage from an attack, roll a d6 instead. On a result of 1, he takes that damage plus 1. On a result of a 2-3 he takes the normal amount of damage. On a result of a 4-5 he takes 1 damage. On a result of a 6, he heals 1 damage instead.
Is Bagman's trait an attack?
So since when Does PW Ignore Traits?

So since when Does PW Ignore Traits?
Around the time the fantastic four rulebook came out. Might not have been in that rulebook, but I believe it was an errata soon after.

Is Bagman's trait an attack?
No, it is not. Deadpoll's trait will do nothing, and having bagman attack bagman will not result in a circle of attacks until they die.
He's taking damage because he's pushing, not because of the attack. You'd be fine. This man knows what he's talking about.

I plan to deal with Bagman by using Dr. Doom and three researchers to nuke him off the face of the planet.
And them using Doom's Mastermind to pass off the retaliation damage to a researcher.
Bagman's trait is NOT Mystics, people.

Poison could help also.
Vortex (WoS) also has an SP incorporating TK that causes 1 damage.
The Bombastic Bag-Man is a very tough nut to crack.

A team mate of mine played bagman last night and our opponent solution was to incap him once then have Ben Reilly hit him with CCE and they both die at the same time for a relativity low cost.

This thread should have been titled: "How to Bag Bombastic Bag-Man!"
Best way to take bag the Bombastic Bag-Man?
With his Perplex & Spider-Man TA, he is definitely a threat that can't be ignored.
Paper or Plastic?... Neither I recycle... clix that is!: Regeneration! Also, lots of B/C/F is a must. You are going to take damage... so might as well make it worth your while!
Here is a 300 point team Modern-Age (or Golden Age w/ 4 points for Feats) team I've designed to unmask the Bombastic Bag-Man:
X-Force Theme Team:
ws057 V Deadpool
Team: Spider-Man
Range: 8 :bolt::bolt:
Points: 158
Keywords: Agency X, Deadpool Corps, Frightful Four, Great Lakes Avengers, Martial Artist, Six Pack, Weapon X, X-Force

No, Deadpool (DP) is not receiving damage from an attack from Bombastic Bag-Mans's (BBM) trait. So DP would take the penetrating damage that he dealt to BBM.
Are you sure that Incap gets through? Because he would still be taking damage BECAUSE of the attack, even though it's pushing him. I guess it could go either way though.
Yes. The only way that Incapacitate can affect the attacker is if a critical hit is scored, then damage dealt would be 1, so the Incapper would take 1 penetrating damage.

Since Traits have been introduced, Pulsewave ignores them! PW ignores All powers, abilities, including TAs, traits, and feat cards. Thorbuster rocks! :)

Another great strategy to go into a game against BBM is Mastermind.
Another poster mentioned this above.
Show up with a Dr. Doom team with lots of Doombots. You get the Minions of Doom TA (and Mystics TA with a certain Doom), and you have Mastermind! Take that penetrating damage, and pawn it off on the Doombots.
Red Skull and HYDRA or AIM agents are another option.

It would have been less of a problem if your local bagman had been like the ones at the end of Sean of the Dead I'm guessing.
Incap was my first guess. Could you still use Stunning Blow in that case and avoid the damage? I have a feeling you can't, but I just wanted to be a part of the conversation.

You would take his retaliation damage from the damage from the attack, but not the incap.

There was actually a small window after the release of the Fantastic Four starter when Pulse Wave did not ignore Traits. That made Benjamin J Grimm even nastier. :)

Incap does zero damage. It gives a token. Pushing damage is seperate then damage given from an attack. That is why posion doesn't trigger mystics.

I pulled Iron Man/War Machine in sealed and was so pumped to rain devastation.
My second game, I go up against a team led by Bag Man and Victor Mancha. My opponent uses Prowler to provide cover for Victor Mancha in the starting area while Bag Man advances. Of course, since I've only got one figure, I don't dare attack Bag Man. Bag Man and Rocket Racer manage to base me. I decide to KO Rocket Racer and then fail my next two break away rolls against Bag Man. In the meantime, Victor Mancha pummels me with Psychic Blast. I lose.

I am new, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. Why didn't you use Force Blast to blast Bagman away?
FORCE SHIELD EXTEND (Force Blast)
Give this character a power action and roll a d6; a single target adjacent opposing character is knocked back from this character a number of squares equal to the result. The target automatically breaks away, and can move through squares adjacent to opposing characters. The target can be dealt knock back damage.

Iron Man/War Machine don't get Force Blast until their fourth click. Once I'd reached their fourth click, I was already in big trouble. Anyways, Force Blast requires a power action. If I would have Force Blasted Bag Man away, I would not have been able to attack the same turn. Then, on Bag Man's next turn, he could just run up and base me again.

Isn't this also true with breakaway? Granted, you wouldn't be able to move as far as with breakaway, and your odds of success don't improve... like I said, forgive me if this was a dumb question.
Ok, different question. Assuming you weren't already based with Bagman, couldn't you use the duo attack ability, first with Force Blast and then with incapacitate to keep him away?
(Attack) Adaptive Response Armor: When Iron Man/War Machine uses the Duo Attack ability, they may choose Incapacitate, Penetrating/Psychic Blast, or Ranged Combat Expert and use that instead of one or both ranged combat attacks.
Because Iron Man / War Machine can choose to use Incap for one or both ranged combat attacks, I think this would work assuming you're not already based.
FYI, if the Super Rare primer is to be believed, Force Blast is available on your 3rd click. (However, HeroClix's gallery says fourth click. You have the piece, so I'll defer to you.)
DucksFlying81

Actually, now that I'm home and looking at my figure, they don't get Force Blast until their fifth click.
My break-away attempt was part of a Running Shot power action, so had I successfully made the break-away roll, I could have attacked as part of the same action.
Regarding your other question, Duo Attack requires a power action, as does Force Blast. Hence, a character cannot generally use both Duo Attack and Force Blast on the same turn.

Yep yep and yep.
I took him out today with this team:
Armor Keyword 500 points:
Iron Man & Warmachine 300
Guardsman x3 96 (396)
R Mandroid Armor x2 56 (452)
Stingray 29 (481)
Drag 5 (486)
Alias 3 (489)
.......and I just realized I played 11 points short that game
My opponents team was:
SI Mr. Fantastic 100
SI Invisible Woman 100 (200)
SI Human Torch 100 (300)
SI Thing 100 (400)
Bagman 90 (490)
Alicia Masters 5 (495)
Unstoppable 5 (500)
I won map choice, and picked the Starro Dock Map. I put all of my guys on top of elevated, with IM/WM surrounded so that the only figure that could really get to me was Torch from range. I had IM/WM go after everyone else except Bagman. By the time Bagman go to the roof top, my Guardsmen were able to take him out :p

Recap.
Pulswave to ignore the trait
Incap to push bagman (AW spiderman excels at this)
Mindcontrol opposing piece to attack the bagman(incidently will also damage the attacking piece for a win win scenerio)
Mastermind damge off to pog or other point filler piece.
Did I miss any?
poison/ MSOE ATA
Henchman would make short work of bagman.
MSOE him, punch him to get knocked onto poison, MSOE and poison him to death.

Would the Hammer of Thor Ulik work against the Bagman. He can only take 1 damage and his trait cannot be ignored. What do you think?
No, because Bag-Man deals penetrating damage, which is damage that can't be reduced, and Ulik's power reduces damage. Same reason why psychic blast and exploit weakness work on Ulik.
