http://hcrealms.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=471&pictureid=12102Clix for the Cure is back, and it's bigger than ever! For the 6th annual event we're taking it coast to coast!

What is Clix for the Cure?
Simply put, Clix for the Cure is an event where gamers get together to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The Foundation raises money to help find a cure for and fight against Breast Cancer. It was started some years ago as an idea between Frontman, who's mom was battling the disease, and DS-00-0, FSD. In the 5 annual events (and a couple of smaller events) we've raised thousands of dollars with the help of the HeroClix community.

Where will the event be held?
Traditionally the event has been held in Illinois, either in Bloomington or Peoria. But this year ibeatdrew and I have decided that it's just to big for one city to contain! We've enlisted some help and are taking this fantastic event coast to coast! There will be three venues hosting this event...

- Just For Fun in Peoria, IL (http://hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288396) (The original old skool Midwest!)
- The Family Game Store in Savage, MD (http://hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288405) (East Coast representin'!)
- Comic Book Ink in Lakewood, WA (http://hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288438) (West Coast in da' house!)

Awesome! When is it?
In an effort to keep this as a single event (even though it is in 3 locations), all will be run over a single weekend. The WA and IL events will be on Saturday, Nov 6th and the MD event will be on Sunday, Nov 7th.

What can I expect?.
Lots of fun! HeroClix! Lots of fun! Meeting new people! Lots of fun! Amazingly cool prizes! Lots of fun!

Prizes? What kind of prizes?
Our own Ben Misenar (decepticon1313), WK sculptor extrodinaire, has graciously donated some custom figure sculpts to each venue (see attached pic below). These will be awesomely unique prizes! Thanks Ben! In addition we should also have some custom sketch cards by none other than Ed McGuinness and some custom maps by our own ibeatdrew!

I'm there! Now what's the cost for the event?
The cost will be $30 per person of which at least $10 will go to the Komen Foundation. It will also get you two boosters for the event itself. Due to different costs for different venues, more of the $30 may be donated but definitely not less.

So is that all the money that will be raised, just from entry fees?
Absolutely not! One of the hallmarks of the Clix for the Cure events is the "Probability Control for a buck" mechanic. Anyone can buy a PC roll for $1. And I mean anyone! It can be you, your opponent, your friend standing nearby, the guy playing next to you, a stranger walking by... anyone! Tons of $$$ is raised every year from this alone and I don't expect this year to be different. Additionally, each venue will hold raffles and auctions. 100% of all of it goes straight to the charity.

What about format, time, directions, and other details?
Check the Tournaments & Events section here on HCR or click the names of the venue closest to you above. We've got a thread started for each venue for info, questions, and sign ups (so we can get a rough estimate of attendance for the venues). They are stickied to the top of the forum there.

We look forward to seeing many of you 'Realmsers there and I know that this will be the biggest Clix for the Cure ever! We're going to raise the bar to new heights for the coming years!

I have gamed at Comic Book Ink many times, and know many of the players. I'll most likely attend.

If I do not, I'll write a check for $30+ so that way all proceeds will got towards the charity.

But if I can make it, I'll be there.

I look forward to this. My dad died of cancer, my uncle died from cancer, and many of my other family members from various forms of cancer.

No one in my family has had breast cancer, so I thank the Most High for that.

But cancer of any sort is devastating to lives no matter what form it comes in, so I'll spread the word at my venue (which is only about 2 miles or so from Comic Book Ink).

I'll ask if I can put up fliers at my venue (don't know if they'll let me, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I am almost 95% sure that we will not be adding anymore venues this year.

After this event we are going to talk and see about having more venues next year. The event is too close and we don't have tons of support to cover more than the three locations we have.

We will be better set up to deal with this next year.

I am looking into maybe having a separate HCREALMS sponsored online auction for some of the things that will be offered at these events to go to Cancer.

thanks and sorry.

Causes like this are great and all, but I just wish some of the time and money involved in finding a "cure" for certain diseases was redirected to educating people about PREVENTION, which is much more desirable than waiting until you're sick and have a limited amount of time in which to do something about it. My mom lasted 10 years with breast cancer, which was nothing short of amazing, but it's feasible that she could still be around if only preventative information was more readily available to the general public. Anyway, good luck with the fundraiser and long live HeroClix!

Thanks hair10! Your awesome!!!

I second that statement. But let's also include all of the people who; past and present, who helped make this possible. Special thanks to Typhon for giving us the internet venue as it were to come together in such an awesome cause.

I will do everything I can to make it to this event. I haven't been able to make all of them; and this year was really difficult with my wife going through surgery this summer, but I so want to help.

And Magneticlaw? Trust me, my goal has always been to help find a cure for breast cancer. But in the meantime; we have to make a difference somehow. A few thousand might not sound like much in the face of millions of dollars in research; but those few thousand might of paid for one patient's chemo treatments. And if one life is saved through our efforts?

It was a battle worth fighting.

Agreed. I have to thank hair10 and ibeatdrew for taking the lead this year. Karl and I had talked about this late last year but I have been completely swamped for the past 10 months with work, getting married, getting a house ready to be put on the market and now 4 kids in the house with varying schedules.

There was always interest in getting more than just the Midwest involved in this and I'm extremely happy to see this quirky idea of Frontman's that I "borrowed" years ago has gone coastal!!

These custom figures are not Heroclix figures. They do not have dials and are not even on a "clix" base. They are just sculpted trophies that happen to be Heroclix scale. What you do with them after you win them is up to you.

No, unfortunately not. "Clix for the Cure" and the venues aren't recognized as non-profit organizations.

Borrowed? If I remember it correctly, I believe in an "Activation Click" column back in the day I just suggested everyone taking just a few of their gaming dollars and setting it aside for Breast Cancer research. You and Karl took that idea and freakin' RAN WITH IT!!!!

Clix for the Cure will be one of those things that I'll always be proud of this community. We made a difference already; and the fact its growing now? Three locations; coast to coast?

Life of its own, guys. Something all of us can take a bit of pride in and know we're going to continue to make a difference!!!

Speaking for myself and The Family Game Store, we are really honored and grateful to be able to participate in this!
Be on notice that the East Coast intends to 1) have the most fun and 2) raise the most money for cancer research!

But for a VERY good cause!

Better to spend your dollars on saving boobies instead of seeing them at the strip club down the road.....

Next year, I'll have to remember to start bugging people to see if we can get one running in CA.

Awesome! I'll be at the one in Peoria. I was at the events in Bloomington and have been jonesin' for another one. I had the pleasure of clixing along side Hair10, Ibeatdrew, Balloonatic, dariusdax, groovyboy, DeGei, and Ignatzmouse just to name a few.
It's a terrific time to say the least. One of the great aspects of the event is the sense of community. If I remember correctly, a local baker donated "K.O." cookies for sale.(proceeds donated to the cause). One player paid out , like, $150.00 in rerolls to his teammates one year. The Clix for the cure ranks up there as one of the best heroclix events ever.
Thank you to the organizers for making this possible again. I lost my Mom to cancer last Christmas so I'm really looking forward to attending. You guys are awesome.
In addition to good cheer and scads of cash, is there anything else you might be needing for this? donations and whatnot?

A little update for the Midwest Clix for the Cure (http://hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288396)...

The boosters we'll be using will be AA and WoS. Each participant will get one of each.

Since the AA boosters are bit cheaper than WoS, $15 (and not $10) of the entry fee* will go towards the Komen Foundation!

*note that this applies to the Midwest C4tC only. Each venue incurs different costs so the donation levels are a bit different.
